Built by the Vintage Motorcars company in California, this 356A replica features handmade fiberglass bodywork and a customized air-cooled Volkswagen 1,915cc flat-four engine. This example has been finished in Auratium Green along with a tan leather interior, oatmeal German square-weave carpeting, exterior trim badging, and much more. This high-quality one-owner Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its seller showing less than 20 miles on the odometer.

Mounted to a shortened 1974 Volkswagen Beetle chassis, the custom fiberglass bodywork is finished in Auratium Green, a historic Porsche color of the late 1950s. Accessories include period-style badging, body-color bumpers, driving lights, a Speedster-style side mirror, teardrop taillights, and a tan tonneau cover. It rides on 15” slotted chrome wheels accented by Porsche crested hubcaps and dressed in MOMO Outrun M20 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is trimmed in tan leather with customer-supplied plaid inserts and oatmeal German square-weave carpeting. Appointments include a 3-spoke chrome and wood-rimmed steering wheel, ivory knobs, chrome door pulls, custom door panels, heated seats, a retro radio, a charging point, and a door-mounted passenger side view mirror.

The air-cooled 1,915cc Volkswagen flat-four engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Featured equipment includes an AS 41 engine case opened for 94mm cylinders, a 69mm counterweighted crank, a 12v Chromoly lightened flywheel, VM2 cam for Solex carburetors, German lifters, a USA-made cam gear, 94mm AA piston & cylinders, 8mm Chromoly head studs, a 26mm Shadak oil pump with full flow cover, dual-port heads with 40-valves and single high-rev springs, bolt-on valve covers, a CB Magna spark ignition, and NGK D6EA spark plugs. Stopping power is derived from 4-wheel brake discs.

This sale will include a clean title for a 1974 Volkswagen.

Wow, where were the bidders today ! I thought for sure this car would sell. One similar car without leather interior sold on BAT last week for $83,000. I put the reserve for less than I paid for the car !

Vintage "Motorcars" of California (VMC) built this car and is one of only two replica Speedster builders in the USA who I consider to be reputable builders.
The other is Beck in Indiana.
Vintage "Speedsters" is a totally different company which is no longer in business. Vintage Speedsters built very nice replicas up to 2017 when it was sold, moved to Arizona and filed for bankruptcy.
Again, there is no connection between Vintage Motorcars and Vintage Speedsters!
This is a beautiful example of the builds from VMC and it's new owner will not be disappointed!

@JJensen No but I know a few who have and have been part of the Speedster community for years. It's not disparaging to Vintage to question when someone says they make the best and I'd say the same to either of the others who might claim the same; it's subjective. No question the new owner will be very happy with their purchase. Cheers and safe travels.

Hello, I am sitting on a plane ready for take off. It’s a two hour flight so I may not be able to answer any additional questions until after the auction. Good luck to all interested bidders. Someone will get a brand new Speedster that still needs break in miles.

  • JJensen (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@EnzosDad The car was built in 2022. I have no pics of the build in process.

  • JJensen (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@WNGD have you owned a Vintage Speedster ?

  • WNGD 1 year, 9 monthsago

IM (recently stopped building these) and Beck may have something to say about "best" but Vintage is really building some nice cars these days.

  • EnzosDad (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

I apologize if I missed this anywhere:
    - When was this car built?
    - Does it come with build documentation like pictures and such?
    Thank you!

  • JJensen (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Smokinjoe Thank you for your endorsement ! Vintage makes the best Speedster tribute for a fraction of the cost of a original. So much better in many ways. It's on a 1974 Volkswagen chassis.. The Insurance is crazy cheap !

  • Smokinjoe (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Hey guys and gals...I have the same model so, if you are slightly interesed im this you need to jump on it. Shes a beauty!

@replicaspeedster.com thank you Troy. Some lucky bidder is going to get a beautiful new Speedster. I wish I had more room to be able to keep it !

@ERB166 yes, would have to be tomorrow morning though. The car is located near Pine Ridge and Livingston.

I am local in Naples. Would it be possible to view the car in person?

  • JJensen (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

One of these new Vintage Speedsters sold on BAT last week for $83,000 plus buyers premium. My reserve is very reasonable.

    @WNGD Yes, I did !

  • WNGD 1 year, 10 monthsago

@JJensen Did you buy from Roy?
These days. you'll make a profit flipping it

  • JJensen (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

@WNGD no, I am a private party collector, I purchased it from a dealer that orders cars well in advance and sells them when received. I understand that there is quite a long wait time to order one. The lucky bidder will have a brand new car, perfect car with very few miles.

  • WNGD 1 year, 10 monthsago

Beautiful choice of color, shifter, radio, steering wheel, just some nice choices overall. Plaid seats won't be for everyone (I like them) and the standard but reliable engine. Well done.

Is the seller a dealer for Vintage Motorcars of California?
