We are pleased to offer this exceptionally rare 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe with factory sunroof delete.  Marking the 260th car built out of a total series of 528, this stunning matching-numbers Carrera has been under the care of a prominent California enthusiast since 1976.  A true show-quality example, this Carrera has undergone a comprehensive bare-metal exterior restoration as well as a recent mechanical service.

This Carrera has been brought down to bare metal and professionally refinished in its Porsche COA verified original color of Bitter Chocolate.  A garage-kept California car, this 911 shows to be in excellent overall condition.  The seller notes that all restorative work was performed by Vintage Autocraft in TN.  Visual features include an iconic original duck tail spoiler as well Carrera script door logos in gold.  Currently installed are a set of black Fuchs wheels wearing a set of Ohtsu tires.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.

This 911 is upholstered in a Cinnamon partial leather interior that is said to remain in outstanding original condition.  Featuring the desirable Carrera trim package, this car represented the top-of-the line 911 in its day.  Original factory specifications selected for this model include:

  • Equipment for California
  • Koni Shocks
  • Oil Cooler - Front
  • Carrera Script on Doors - Gold
  • Duck Tail
  • Retractable Antenna - left
  • Tinted Glass All Around
  • Pirelli Tires

All gauges, electrical components and accessories are reported to be fully functional.

This Carrera is powered by an air-cooled 2.7L flat-six engine rated at 175 HP and 167 lb-ft of torque with a very light curb weight of just over 2,300 lbs.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a smooth 5-speed manual transmission making for a traditional analog driving experience.  The seller confirms this car to be rust free and indicates that a standard mechanical service was performed within the last 30 days.  Offered in superb driving condition, this 911 is ready for a new home.

Coveted for their low production numbers, the sunroof-delete Carrera is regarded among the most collectible vintage 911’s on the road.  This beautifully presented matching-numbers example is a true air-cooled collector’s item.

The sale of this Carrera will include records, original books, tools, an air compressor, spare tire, car cover and California vintage blue license plate.  This vehicle is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as well as a clear title.  A highly-sought after car offered in a phenomenal color combination, this 1974 Carrera is not to be overlooked.

@Knight77911 I know all about sunroofs! Finding one was gold up until the SC's came out and then they all seemed to get one unless they were German market cars. Easy bump to the bottom line and all Americans wanted one.

While I prefer no sunroof I would never remove one for a back date. By backdating and leaving it in you create what wasn't plentiful. ;)

@Slim_Chance - There might be some confusion on terminology. While there was NOT a sunroof delete option, a sunroof was an option. MOST cars were spec'd with them. It's odd to find one that does not have a sunroof. It's probably preferred to state that it was "rare to not have option M650 electric sliding sunroof ordered."

Sir, I live north of Philadelphia. I’d like to come see the vehicle. Can you please get in touch

  • Slim_Chance 4 years, 9 monthsago

There is no sunroof delete option. That's marketing BS from the hot rodders who cut out what was once a very desirable option.

Great representation of a 46 yr. old Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7. This upgraded 911 has all the proper earmarking, both very good and super minor not so good. Love the proper Bosch fog light covers, proper chin spoiler and the OEM rear view mirror mount (not round!), and the matching paint headlight surround (not chrome!),and the mat black side-view mirror (not the polished aluminum (ala 911 and 911S). A-HAA, proper upgraded rear ‘Porsche’ reflector,
bulging glove box cover (from heat and age), updated A/c compressor and clutch, good move.
Lose the Carrera script on the deck lid; only the 2.7 appeared on the aluminum (vs plastic) engine lid cover. And lastly, this rare higher performance 2.7 Carrera, had a distinctive (and now super-rare), steering wheel. Yes, it was a three spoke, but it was a smaller diameter (380MM vs 400MM), than the 911 & S models and thicker. It’s a masterpiece of Porsche design.
It’s hard to tell from the pics, if this Carrera is bestowed with that classic option.
Beautiful early 911, reminds me of my 1st and 2nd P-cars, which I loved.
Oh yeah, might want to consider getting a pop-off ‘valve’ for the air box.

@Dkostic FYI: wheel centers would be same color as the side Carrera stripe,
ie Gold when it left the factory,
also they would have been 15" not 16",
here is a picture of my 1974 Euro Carrera showing how it should look.

@MarkofromTropoja If that was the case, the listing was automatically generated by eBay's VMP system in error; the listing should be removed and the error corrected now -- I apologize.

  • MarkofromTropoja (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

This car is still actively listed for sale on Ebay.

  • ehd911 (seller) 4 years, 10 monthsago

@analogmike Correct, yet many dealers ordered 1974 Carrera Coupes w/the option and it's the most concise way to clarify that this 1974 Carrera Coupe has no sunroof (a feature to some).

  • analogmike (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

sunroof delete, sunroof delete, sunroof delete.... It’s not deleted, it was just not added. if it was a 1980s Carrera 3.2 it would’ve been a sunroof delete as those had a sunroof standard.

  • ehd911 (seller) 4 years, 10 monthsago

@MarkofromTropoja Ditto what mohrimports said -- the iconic Porsche Ducktail was a feature of the top of the line 1974 Porsche Carrera (911, 911S and Carrera trim-levels offered in 1974). The AC is original (in 1974 all were dealer installed, thus not listed on the CoA); yes it is functioning.

  • mohrimports (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

Yes, the US Spec '74 Carrera's came factory with the ducktail.

  • MarkofromTropoja (registered bidder) 4 years, 10 monthsago

Would the factory spoiler have been a ducktail for this year? Is the A/C an original dealer installed accessory and is it functioning?
