Produced from 1972-1973, the 2.4-liter Porsche 911 was the final generation to feature classic long-hood body styling. The 911E was situated above the entry-level 911T in Porsche’s model range and equipped with a 165 HP fuel-injected engine. Finished in Slate Grey over a reupholstered tan leather interior, this 1973 example is one of 1,055 Porsche 911E Targas produced in the final model year and features a pair of desirable Recaro Sport Seats as well as the factory Comfort Equipment package and vintage Heuer Monte Carlo rally timers. It was acquired by the seller in 2019 and has since been meticulously maintained including an engine reseal.

This 911E is believed to have been refinished in Slate Grey about 10 years ago and features 911S-style aluminum rocker moldings and gold rear lettering as part of the factory Comfort Equipment package. Other details include European-spec H4 headlights and marker lenses, auxiliary fog lamps, and a brushed silver Targa band with a removable roof panel. The original color of the car was Gemini Blue Metallic, and the current nonmetallic finish is described to be in very good overall condition. The car rides on a set of 15” Fuchs wheels dressed in Vredestein Sprint Classic tires which were mounted about 4 years ago. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been completely reupholstered using genuine tan leather with matching carpets and features a pair of 911S-style Recaro Sport Seats. Other additions include a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, custom Coco floor mats, and a set of collectible Heuer Monte Carlo rally timers. Upgraded 911S-style instrumentation is included as part of the Comfort Equipment package. The original Blaupunkt radio was rebuilt under the current ownership and all gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

The fuel-injected 2.4-liter flat-six engine is rated at 165 HP and was previously rebuilt using upgraded Turbo lower valve covers, SSI heat exchangers, a stainless-steel muffler, and oil-fed Carrera chain tensioners. The case stamping on the engine corresponds with the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Service carried out prior to the current ownership included the replacement of suspension bushings and recalibration of the fuel injection system. The engine has since been resealed under the current ownership and routine oil changes are said to have been completed annually.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a clean title, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

@dsdill I am not aware of this being a reproduction sticker… As you indicate, it is spot on and unsure why they would go through making such an incredible reproduction, and then get the date wrong as you indicate… Could it be that because this is the last model year that production extended into November, a couple of months on?

Good luck with the sale! It is a beautiful example of a '73 model year Targa.
Referring to 'IMG_5015.jpg' showing the 'Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards' sticker on the driver's side 'b' pillar that states the VIN and month/year of manufacture; the sticker reads '11/73' as the date of manufacture. Assuming this is a reproduction of the original sticker because of the repaint, that date is an error. The '11/73' indicates a 1974 model year production date of November 1973 as the transition from one model year of production to another occurs in the previous year's August/September time frame. I'd love to know the source of the 'Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards' sticker, as it is very authentic in its appearance.

@Carpair Had uploaded the COA a couple of times for the PCAR team to upload, but didn't happen, so uploaded myself this AM, sorry about the delay. I purchased the car from Hunting Ridge Motors and unfortunately I did not receive the receipts for the prior work. I believe he was promised but didn't receive the documentation from the owner. On the reseal, I didn't have them perform a leak down , and was trying to get the car scheduled in with same mechanic to get one, but they are slammed pre-holiday. I have some additional driving video that the PCAR team will hopefully post for you this AM to illustrate how strong the car pulls and how great she runs and sounds.

I have not seen the COA- did I miss it? Do you have any receipts from previous owners? Can you tell where the oil is leaking from? Did the mechanic who sealed the engine do a leak down test?

@Carpair - When I resealed her just after I received the car (see receipts), we got most of the drips resolved, but didn't get to the point that there is zero seepage. I keep pads under my cars and haven't noticed any oil on the floor or pads.

  • Carpair (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Have you noticed any oil leaking after you park the car? It appears in photo 122 that oil could be leaking from the trans?

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@Roma - I've taken a couple of driveway pics of the underside for you, and tried to capture a few areas of interest / typical issue spots.

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@EddySteinberg - Pics of the targa and parking top have both been posted. I provided some inside targa top pics a little later and PCAR team should have these posted for you shortly as well.

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@Carpair - I've provided pic of COA copy sheet I have, and engine number over to the PCAR team, and they should have posted for us shortly. I will try to get the trans number shortly, however from prior dealer's information from a few years ago, I do not think this is matching.

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@abs - The sport seats have fore / aft distance, and seat angle. Headrest can adjust for angle and height . The seats release and can be folded/up for access to the rear seats / shelf.

Love these seats and they are a big improvement over the regular seats in holding you in place and improving the tactical feel / attachment to the car. Besides looking amazing!

  • abs 2 yearsago

what adjustments do the seats have?

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@Roma - No corrosion. I will grab a couple of quick picks of underside and post tomorrow AM. I'll take to my mechanic and see if I can grab some pics on the lift and compression / leak down test.

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@abs - I posted the invoices of all services since I've owned her. Minor oil leak was the reason.

Beautiful '73 Targa. I have a '73.5 911T Targa CIS and have thoroughly enjoyed it for over 24 years. GLWTS!

  • TheROIGuy (seller) 2 yearsago

@EddySteinberg - The targa hardtop is included and have a pic of it in the trunk. I'll get a shot of it open, top and bottom and installed for you. I also have a foldable top that I use for parking so you have protection, but don't have to always install the original targa top, and I'll get a couple of pics of that too for you. Stay tuned.

@EddySteinberg - Driving video and a walk around have now been posted. I will post a startup video shortly. Thank you!

IMO that’s a nice colour combo. Would the Seller plz comment on any corrosion on the vehicle, results of any recent compression/leak off test and future underbody photos? THX

Hello and welcome to the auction of my 911e Targa. I am an individual seller, long time Porsche collector and enthusiast.

This car has been one of my favorites to own and drive, an absolute go-cart that I refined and used every fair weather day for coffee and workout runs. This car has been a favorite of our local Clean Cars and Dirty Chai group. I am downsizing homes and losing precious garage space, otherwise she'd be staying in my family.

I'll do my best to answer all questions and post additional pics or videos as needed. Thank you!
