As a hallmark of Citroën's automotive innovation in the 1970s, the SM (reportedly short for Série Maserati) is a classic French sports car renowned for its avant-garde design, advanced technology, and impressive performance. This 1973 SM-series model is said to be one of just 600 units produced with a 3.0-liter engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. Finished in Scarabee Brown over Tobacco leather upholstery, this example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.
This SM is said to have been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Scarabee Brown in 2000. Designed by Robert Opron, the SM presents a sleek and aerodynamic design characterized by a long low-slung body, fastback roofline, and rear fender skirts. Equipment includes chrome trim, stainless-steel bumpers, a driver’s side mirror, rear fender skirts, polished quad exhaust outlets, and 15” steel wheels with polished stainless-steel covers. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features Tobacco leather upholstery which covers the front bucket seats, rear bench, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes Jaeger instrumentation, a suspension-height lever placed to the left of the driver’s seat, a push-button AM/FM radio, an air conditioning system, and power windows. New carpets have been fitted, and carbon fiber-look dashboard trim has been added.
Power is derived from a replacement 3.0-liter V6 engine which was developed in collaboration with Maserati, a subsidiary of Citroën at the time, and three Weber two-barrel carburetors. As much as 170 HP is sent to the front wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. Performance features include a hydropneumatic suspension system, self-centering power steering, an ANSA exhaust system, and four-wheel disc brakes with front inboard-mounted units. The seller notes an exhaust leak near the manifold.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a rare opportunity to own a one-owner car! Jointly held with a brother since its purchase new in 1973, this extraordinary vehicle, affectionately named "Sa Majesté," comes with extensive service records and a shop manual. It includes ultra-rare factory binders and unique features sure to delight engineering enthusiasts. This ‘Concorde on Wheels’ can be yours—if the price is right! Bid generously and multiple times to win! I will expertly assist with the importation process and deliver right to your door in no time.”

The neat thing about this lot, outside the car itself, is the enormous amount of Books, Records from Citroën Factory, that goes with it. Did many SM Listings in the past. A First for Me. GL

Good evening AlexBert
Thank you for the quick reply to my private message about the location of the car.
Question about the color. It looks black in the pictures. A Google search of Brun Scarabée shows the color to be much lighter.
Was “Sa majesté” repainted at some point?
@Chapron67 1. Color always was Brown Scarabee
2. Major invoices in approach 🛬
3. 150000 kms
4. No rust removal. Never winter driven.
1. Was the color originally black? If not, what was it?
2. Would be great to show the major invoices
3. Does the car have 105,000 miles?
4. Any rust removal work ever done/
Thanks.
Bid in the amount of $500
@Cjbenedikt Good eyes. Thanks. Edit will be done.
Slight correction to the text: power is sent to the front wheels NOT rear wheels.
