The predecessor to the original 6-Series, the BMW E9 Coupe was produced from 1968 through 1975 featuring iconic Karmann-built bodywork designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister, and it served as a successful race car platform in the European Touring Car Championship. This 1973 BMW 3.0CS is one of 450 U.S.-market examples produced for the model year. It comes finished in Baikal Metallic over black leather upholstery and features a 3.0-liter M30 inline-six engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The car is equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, dual carburetors, an optional sunroof, power windows, air conditioning, and 14” alloy wheels. It has been serviced with valve and timing adjustments, a rebuilt radiator and water pump, rebuilt carburetors, new sunroof seals, and a refurbished distributor cap. This classic BMW is now being offered for auction out of Connecticut.
This E9 came factory-finished in Baikal Metallic (42) and features a distinctive pillarless side window design, quad headlamps, chrome bumpers, bright trim pieces, dual mirrors, fender vents, and BMW roundels behind the rear quarter windows. The car is equipped with an optional power-operated sunroof that was serviced with new seals and repair of the closing mechanism by Matt McGinn of Sports Car Restorations in Plainville, Connecticut. It rides on 14” alloy wheels with chrome hubcaps and 2022 General Altimax tires. The seller notes the sunroof panel has been refinished and the exterior exhibits signs of age, wear, and surface corrosion. Rust is also present in the spare tire well and driver’s side frame mount. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with black leather upholstery, wood trim, and grey loop carpeting. Accessories include a black three-spoke steering wheel, a wood gear knob, three-point seatbelts, power windows, air conditioning, an analog clock, BMW-logo floor mats, and a Blaupunkt Settle AM/FM/cassette radio. Noted imperfections include cracks on the front and rear passenger-side seats, shift boot, and wood trim pieces. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
Equipped with dual carburetors, the 3.0-liter M30 inline-six engine delivers up to 180 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Stopping power comes from disc brakes at all four corners. The seller indicates the car has been serviced with valve and timing adjustments, a rebuilt original radiator and water pump, rebuilt carburetors, and a refurbished distributor.
This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, various spare parts, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting our auction. This is an over 50-year-old car that thanks to how it was stored is still running and a great example of this rare BMW. With some paintwork, this one will be the darling of any car show.”

Thank you very much @seller

Thank you all for your questions, comments, and patience. We will have additional photos to answer your questions this afternoon.
Yes this car needs work. Yes BMW doesn't price parts to help foster preservation like Porsche BUT - This car was made back when BMW was in top form. Its shape and stance are timeless. Someone is going to be happy with this one.
I've had a complete '72 3.0 2 carb engine / 4 speed trans in the corner of my shop for 30 years. This car would be a great '2 engine' car for me, 1 for touring and 1 for speed runs... i'll watch this sale closely! Or, perhaps its time i list my engine / trans for sale here on PCAR? Mmmmm....
Couple of questions: 1) Can you please post photos of trunk with carpet pulled up and of shock towers. 2) “All gauges and accessories are ‘said’ to be fully functional”. Can you test them and state definitely yes, or no? 3) What is under the driver’s door lock on exterior? Thanks.
Can you share pictures of the sunroof and the headliner? And can you open the sunroof and show if there is rust around the sunroof cassette?
Needs lot of work including paint job. Its a project. Can we get some pictures of VIN at various places on the body of car? I only see one place in engine bay.
