A collaborative effort between Porsche and Volkswagen, the Porsche 914 offers a mid-engine layout and an unmistakable Targa top design. Refinished in white over a black vinyl interior, this 1972 example underwent an engine & transmission rebuild in 2010, followed by a 2.0-liter displacement upgrade in 2013, and a thorough service in late 2019. Reported to have been originally owned in California, this 914 was later brought to Minneapolis before arriving in New York where it is now being offered for auction.
The 914 features a unique design with its Targa-style removable roof panel, long sloping hood, and pop-up headlamps. This example is said to have been previously refinished in white from its original silver color. It rides on 15” aftermarket wheels dressed in Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season tires from 2013. A quad-exit exhaust system has been fitted and the seller notes some of the original paint is visible in the front trunk. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin presents black vinyl upholstery which spans the seats, door panels, and newly installed dashboard cover. Equipment includes a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, and roll-up windows. The seller states the horn and emergency brake are currently inoperable, although all other gauges and accessories are working properly.
This 914’s flat-four engine and 4-speed manual transmission were rebuilt in 2010 by the Porsche specialists at Retro Sport in California, followed by a 2.0-liter displacement upgrade in 2013 and the addition of an Empi quad exhaust system. The seller adds that items carried out within the last 500 miles include the installation of a new battery, upgraded Turbo tie rod ends, new brake hoses, axle boots, and clutch cable along with an oil change. The seller notes minor signs of rust are present on the undercarriage.
This sale will include a transferable registration, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and some documentation.
The seller would like you to know: “I have truly enjoyed my 5 years with this air-cooled Porsche. We have taken it for Sunday ice cream drives and many cars and coffees. It’s a fun drive and handles very well.”

@bdkee its a sticker.
Great looking 914! Is the Porsche crest on the front trunk a sticker or is it a badge mounted to the lid?
Thanks.
Thanks for the comments & bids....
Bid in the amount of $5,000
@aknight the title does not mention mileage. It is NY transferable registration because it a 1972 car.
is the title exempt for mileage ( usually they are , but sometimes not)
@Angelny911 I see that area, the car has some very minor rust but my mechanic says it is all structurally very sound, he recommended undercoating which was my plan if I kept the car. Under my ownership it has only been wet to wash it, and it has always wintered in my heated garage.
Pic 64 shows a lot of rust ,which looks like the longitude area on passenger rear ,under battery tray and below patch area ?
I just added 2 photos from yesterday, nice and sunny.
@tdskip yes, it is a five speed, good catch.

@mrboxsters Glad you could see that area, The P.O. obviously had a new battery tray and some covering for the area. It is all nice and solid but could use some detailing.....
Sorry photos 50 and 53 show it
What is the coating in the hell hole area? Looks like some type covering over it
Bid in the amount of $2,500
@Bruce914 yes, the P.O. did a big bore rebuild to get to 2.0. The car has plenty of pep and is a fun ride.
What did it start as - 1.7? Looks solid.
Greetings , I have enjoyed owning this car and look forward to helping the next caretaker by answering questions promptly and honestly. Feel free to reach out.
