An especially remarkable year for the Porsche 911, 1972 saw the introduction of a new Type-915 manual transmission, a larger 2.4-liter engine, and a unique external oil filler lid (Ölklappe) which was discontinued and has since become one of the most sought-after 911 attributes. Equipped with a sunroof, this example has been refinished in black over tan and black upholstery. Reported to have been previously serviced by renowned shops Red Line Service and Dutch Treat Porsche, this 911T is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

Referred to as an “Ölklappe,” this 1972 example is distinguished by an external oil filler lid mounted behind the passenger door on the rear quarter panel. This example is said to have been previously refinished in black and features 911S-style rocker moldings, rubber-trimmed chrome bumpers, a chrome driver’s side mirror, chrome headlamp bezels, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a fender-mounted antenna. It rides on 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels wrapped in General Altimax HP tires.

Inside, the cabin features tan leatherette upholstery spanning the dashboard, door panels, and rear seats. A pair of black vinyl front seats have been fitted, while black vinyl also covers the upper and lower dashboard and door panels. The equipment also includes a sunroof, a four-spoke steering wheel, roll-up windows, climate controls, and a locking glovebox.

Power comes from an air-cooled 2.4-liter flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. The seller states that the vehicle has been maintained at Red Line Service, Southern California's oldest independent Porsche repair facility, since at least 1997. After Red Line Service relocated from Santa Monica in 2005, maintenance was handled by Dutch Treat Porsche in Lawndale, a renowned Porsche specialist since 1972. The originality of the engine and transmission have not been confirmed.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “A very nice car, though without service history; inspections are both welcomed and encouraged.”

When selling a car, it would be great to have COA to at least know if the color, engine and tranny are orivinal to the car. It is worth the month or so of wait on Porsche, Germany to pull that out! It gives seller and mainly buyer a piece of mind and comfort with what he is getting into! My 2 cents...

We do not have the COA in order to confirm whether the engine is original to the car or not. We suspect it is. The car is very original throughout. We can check the Vin sequence but without the COA or Kardex we will not know with 100% certainty.
    Thanks for your interest
