This 1972 Porsche 911E Coupe was purchased by the seller over 10 years ago as the basis for a Carrera RS-style tribute. It features a German-spec 3.0-liter 911SC MFI engine which has been rebuilt and upgraded with increased compression, twin-plug heads, distributor-less ignition, a front-mounted oil cooler, and a straight pipe exhaust system with RSR tailpipes. The car is finished in navy blue and has been modified with steel RS fender flares, RS-style bumpers, a ducktail rear spoiler, and 17” BBS wheels. The cabin features RS-style door panels, lightweight grey carpeting, OMP seats, Deist five-point safety harnesses, a MOMO steering wheel, a Wevo shifter, and a Safety Devices roll cage. This tastefully modified 911E Coupe is now being offered for auction out of Illinois.
This 911E Coupe includes an external oil filler door on the rear passenger side, a desirable feature exclusive to the 1972 model year. The exterior was refinished in navy blue from its original silver color by a previous owner in 2006. It features steel RS rear fender flares, fiberglass RS-style bumpers, an RS-style ducktail rear spoiler, chrome trim pieces, a roof-mounted antenna, and silver Carrera script side stripes. The silver 17” BBS wheels measure 7.5” wide in front and 9” wide at the rear and were mounted with new Yokohama Geoland tires about three years ago within the last 1k miles. The seller notes cosmetic imperfections including signs of road-gong wear on the front spoiler, some blemishes on the hood, one deep scratch, and chips around the fuel filler door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been redone with lightweight grey carpeting and RS-style door panels featuring leather pull straps. Accessories include OMP bucket seats, Deister five-point racing harnesses, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a Wevo shifter, and a Safety Devices roll cage. The seller notes the rear seats have been removed, a new headliner has been installed, and the original seatbelts are fully functional. The odometer and clock are currently inoperable, and replacement of the CD radio and speakers is recommended.
This 911E derives power from a replacement 3.0-liter flat-six MFI engine derived from a late 70s German-market 911SC. It has been rebuilt to offer increased compression and features twin-plug cylinder heads, distributor-less ignition, a front-mounted oil cooler, braided stainless-steel oil lines, a straight pipe exhaust system with RSR tailpipes, and several RS and 930-derived internal components. The seller indicates the twin-plug ignition setup has not been completed, although the remaining parts are included. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. The suspension has been upgraded with RSR struts, Bilstein rear shocks, adjustable spring plates, 21mm front and 26mm rear torsion bars, Turbo tie rods, a bump steer kit, and a new rear sway bar.
This sale will include a collection of records and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for the past 13+ years. The car has been stored in various garages and warehouses over the years, and I have continued to make mechanical upgrades and improvements to the car. The car is a performer and does not disappoint. “As close to the real RS / RSR, you're going to come in a 1972 Porsche. Lightweight, fast, sturdy, nimbler, agile, fierce. She sounds like a dragon and moves like a wild mustang. Street legal track capable 1972 RS/ RSR hotrod. A Porsche mechanic I had known who collected lots of 911 air-cooled internal engine parts goodies over the decades via his repair shop here in the city. He closed the shop and mostly retired, but he still had the parts collection and embarked on rebuilding the engine, and incorporating what RS & turbo parts he had collected into the rebuild. Straight pipe exhaust system with RSR tailpipes.”

did this car get shipped to Texas? I would like to inspect it.
Offer in the amount of $57,000
Is this still available?
I would have interest in it but closer to the high bid price than the buy it now price.
Any interest?
@FAS - if you are still interested in the car and having a look at it, let me know, i'm expected to ship the car to Texas if the car doesn't sell in the next week. the 993 is in the same warehouse.
Theyr'e in Addison, IL in a warehouse. I think arrangements could be made. Appears the RS is going to Texas early this week. Yes, someone mentioned cost - some of these builds these days are pricey. If i get the pic of the pedal without the insulation, i'll post it, along with the trunk. the pro photo guy got what he could while i was on the pallet rack. I'd also preferred to have had a different backdrop for the pics vs a warehouse wall. Lots of warehouses in Addison.

I think to understand the value of each the 72 and the 993 I would need to see the cars up for sale.
I live in Milwaukee and would like to see them.
Please let me know if that is possible?
Thanks FAS

I just finished restoring my 67 911, which was my 4th air-cooled restoration. They definitely creep up in cost, which I think is affecting this auction.

Witz, wwickes, and BoxsterGT: my mechanic feels the same way about CIS vs MFI that wwickes does. Magnus Walker and i both prefer the '72 over the '70-73.5 long nose years, and of course its the only year with the exterior oil tank. As for the twin plug, its missing some parts - which my shop has (i've paid for), but have not been installed yet. I paid $1,800 for the missing parts, which should just be the addition of a coil pack, ignition wire set, and a coil pack converter, and tune electronic pickup to match both coil packs (i have taken these 3 items from the installation quote sheet). i am still waiting for the undercarriage photos to be sent from the shop / warehouse, which I will upload to PCAR and they will post. I've also uploaded a few driving videos taken from the interior of the car with my digital camera mostly for sound purposes; PCAR will post.
CIS is fine for those models that came with CIS, like 37.5 through 83.
A 72 had MFI and keeping it in period means fitting it with MFI.
Just my opinion. Would love to own another 72.
@BoxsterGT Really? People usually hate on CIS if they don’t know CIS. I love CIS.
I don’t see twin plug, but I see Electromotive crank fire ignition. Which works well with the CIS

nah, i'd driven the car and parked it 5 minutes earlier, before i went in to get my daughter to work the camera. i'd never do that on a cold engine. They had an issue with another car at the shop where i store the cars, and they didn't get the pictures taken, but promised me them in the morning. It's on a pallet lift, if it's not buried among the cars again, they'll get it out and i'll drive it for a video. I'm looking for a driving video on my phones and computer - can't recall if it was with my phone or my digital camera. i'll upload what they send in the morning.
Does the cage unbolt in the front and rear or is it welded in?
@Fastman72 Thanks for the answers. I know were close to the end, but a proper cold start and driving video along with a walkaround are very helpful. Horizontal videos, not Vertical. A good phone should give good enough quality, not sure what that other video was recorded with, but I also hope that wasnt a cold start given that you revved it up almost immediately! Thanks!
so i just spoke to the shop, they will take photos of the pedal assembly without the insulation, and the trunk without the gas tank, and the underside. I will post the photos as soon as i receive them, likely in the next few hours. Thanks for the questions.
I spoke to my mechanic - and yes, you are correct (and i have been wrong) - the car has CIS, not MFI. I am asking PCAR to change the term in the listing. I wrongly believed the car was MFI b/c of the period and the fact the manual throttle adjust in the interior between the seats on the floor indicated the fuel injection was MFI. I am calling the shop to see if they can get the car on a lift to take some underside photos, and if they can take pictures of the pedal assembly. The dashboard cover is/has been part of the dash since i've had the car (i assume its glued). I will ask them to remove the gas can, and take another photo. i can't remember why its in there, it may be the shops, no idea. A professional photographer took all of the photos that have been posted. Let me know if you have other questions or requests, i will look to make another trip out to the shop in next 24 hours, i'll take some additional pics. Sorry for the delay in responding today.
@pcarmarket can you reach out to seller to answer the questions
Also if you happen to respond can you post pictures of Pedal assembly without the insulation and also the dashboard without cover. Thank you

Wonder if he/she is aware its live, with the lack of engagement…. @seller @fastman72
@fastman72 Can you answer some, any or all of the questions?
Hi - you say it has MFI but the photos show CIS. Has the fuel system been changed since the photos were taken ?
Can you explain the gas can in the frunk?
Can you put it on a lift and provide photographs on the underside?
CIS is MUCH LESS desirable than MFI. I would bid on this IF it actually had MFI.
Sorry.
I have a pet peeve when sellers call their CIS motors, MFI. It's not true MFI and the explanation that "technically" CIS is mfi is misleading at best. This may be a very nice motor with the mods but it *aint * MFI FI....
@seller your invoice photos are for a 993.
Whoa, that sounds wicked… If you can, a drive video? Do you / have you tracked the car? I could see this as an awesome track weapon. And last, how long since engine rebuild?
