A joint development between Porsche and Volkswagen, the 914 was offered as Porsche’s entry-level sports car featuring a mid-mounted air-cooled engine and distinctive Targa bodywork built by Karmann. This 1971 Porsche 914 was reportedly factory-finished in Willow Green over a tan leatherette interior with corduroy seat centers and features a 5-speed manual transmission. The car has also received approximately $14k in restoration items by the renowned Porsche specialists at Auto Atlanta. Accompanied by a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate, this example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 914 was reportedly factory-finished in Willow Green. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, a driver’s side mirror, a removable Targa top, and black-finished lower rocker panels. A dealer-installed radio antenna was also fitted, along with period-correct four-bolt 15” Pedrini wheels wrapped in 2021 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The seller notes that “PORSCHE” side graphics were applied by a prior owner and later removed under the most recent ownership. Adhesive from the decals leached into the paint, leaving slightly darker areas beneath. Paint correction mitigated the effect, now presenting a subtle "ghosted" appearance. Imperfections include two dents, including one on the passenger-side A-pillar and another near the front license plate mount. Additionally, a “J”-shaped scratch is noted on the passenger-side rear quarter panel, and the driver’s side taillight lens is fractured but not fully cracked. Detailed images are provided in the gallery, and an additional set of Pedrini wheels will accompany the sale.

Inside, the driver is greeted with tan leatherette upholstery and color-coordinated corduroy seat centers. The floors are lined with tan carpeting and black upgraded Coco floor mats. Details include a four-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, hand-crank windows, and a push-button stereo.

Power comes from a mid-mounted air-cooled 1.7-liter flat-four engine that drives the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller notes that all fuel lines, as well as transmission shifter and linkage bushings, have been replaced. Additionally, the undercarriage, engine bay, and wheel wells have been dry-ice-cleaned. Refurbishments performed by Auto Atlanta in Georgia, reportedly totaling approximately $14k, include the following:

  • Replaced fuel tank
  • Replaced rear main seal
  • Replaced CV axle boots
  • Replaced rear trunk hinges
  • Replaced points and condenser, and adjusted timing
  • Replaced battery and transmission ground straps
  • Replaced rear muffler and exhaust tip
  • Cosmetic restoration of the battery tray
  • Removed aftermarket hot start kit
  • Tightened front wheel bearings
  • Installed new heater hoses, as well as long and short heater blower hoses
  • Installed new battery cover
  • Installed door glass end caps

This sale will include a clean title, the owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, and a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate.

The seller would like you to know: “Like Porsche Monterey, Hennessey Porsche in Atlanta is also one of the few dealerships in America approved to perform the inspection for a Porsche Classic Technical Certificate. The 914 was inspected by Hennessey Porsche this past summer and the certification packet was received back from Germany. The original Willow Green paint looks amazing after professional paintless dent removal, a light paint correction, and a 2-year ceramic coating. The 914 is increasingly recognized as an important part of Porsche's performance history, and a collector seeking a highly original, well-documented, low mileage, example of the model could scarcely do better than this remarkable 1971 914.”

I owned the same car and color in 1973 set up for weekend auto crosses.
Fun car with great memories. Very well thought out design with two trucks and cool place for top in rear trunk even if with luggage in it. Tempted to relive my youth except garage is loaded☹️
