Introduced in 1962, the Renault 8 is a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive family car that achieved rally racing success across Europe, South Africa, and Australia throughout the 60s and 70s. This 1970 example is an R1135 Gordini version featuring a more powerful 1,255cc inline-four engine with twin 40mm Weber carburetors and a crossflow head design. It was purchased by the current owner about 10 years ago who began a refurbishment including a rebuilt engine, a new clutch, and a new distributor. This Renault is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Canada.
This Renault 8 is finished in France Blue (418) with factory white racing stripes, a white driver’s side mirror, quad headlamps, yellow-tinted driving lights, chrome bumpers, a polished tailpipe, and aftermarket 13” wheels. The seller indicates cosmetic imperfections around the exterior including chips, cracks, and areas of missing paint. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The unrestored interior is appointed with black vinyl upholstery and a matching rubber floor liner. Equipment includes front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, door pull straps, three-point front seatbelts, manual roll-up windows, a floor-mounted shifter, a three-spoke steering wheel, analog gauges, and a dashboard storage compartment. The seller reports the gauges and electronics are working properly and the cabin exhibits signs of wear and patina throughout.
The R1135 Gordini features a 1,255cc Cléon-Fonte inline-four engine with a crossflow cylinder head and twin dual-choke 40mm Weber side-draft carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The seller states the engine has been rebuilt by a Gordini specialist along with timing adjustments and replacements of the clutch and distributor.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Meet a monument of French rally cars from the late sixties / early seventies. Poster car in every kids’ room back then, The one and only R8 Gordini (Bleu de France 418) with the white stripes from bumper to bumper. Driving and owning one is a very pleasurable experience. This one is authentic, in an ocean of fakes, clones, and tributes. It was a project car for the current owner, who commissioned an Engine rebuild, timing, and mechanical refurbishment. Second half lifting for next custodian, bodywork, new paint, next custodian that will hopefully be found here this Week. The current owner is building his own Renault 5 Turbo 2, so he can’t juggle both projects. It would be a nice Winter project for a father & son. GL!”

@n_l picture #77 : Flat tire was fixed! ;-)
4Th wheel similar to the other ones. No less, No more
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@AlexBert Thanks for your reply. I see pictures of suspension components and the bottom of the engine, but I'm not seeing floor or rocker panel detail in the gallery. Given the condition of the front fenders, I'd like to get a better sense of the condition of the structural parts of the car.
@n_l 4Th wheel is exactly like the other ones. There was a flat-tire that day. Spare had to be involved. Undercarriage pictures are in the gallery.
What is the condition of the 4th alloy wheel (only 3 are shown in the pictures)?
Are there any pictures available of the underside of the body (floors, rocker panels, etc.)?
