For the first time in 1970, the Porsche 911 received a larger 2.2-liter flat-six engine which included mechanical fuel injection for the range-topping 911S models. This example is one of only 728 Porsche 911S Targas produced for the model year and comes finished in blue over a black leatherette interior. Serving as an excellent basis for a restoration or an ideal air-cooled driver's car, this 1970 example is said to have spent most of its life in California where it is now being offered for auction accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
This Targa has been refinished in the current shade of blue. Equipment includes U.S.-specification bumperettes, anodized gold lettering, a chrome driver’s side mirror, a removable roof panel, 911S aluminum rocker moldings, and 15” Fuchs wheels. The seller notes several imperfections and rust bubbles are present throughout the exterior, additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features black leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the original Blaupunkt radio. A dashboard cover has been fitted over the original, some areas of rust are present, and the seller is unable to confirm if all gauges and accessories are working properly.
The air-cooled 2.2-liter flat-six engine was factory rated at 180 HP. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The 911S comes standard with front and rear stabilizer bars and aluminum front brake calipers. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows engine #6301995. The seller notes that this example was previously brought to a specialist with the intention of completing a full restoration, however, the project was abandoned once a fire broke out and compromised many mechanical parts including the original MFI pump and fuel filter. A new MFI fuel pump, clutch, throwout bearing, and several other replacement items are said to accompany the sale.
This sale will include a clean title, some documentation, several mechanical items, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

The fire was in the shop next to where the car was being stored the C O Way and all the paperwork and also the key were in with the fire and some of the engine parts
Could you comment more regarding the fire, where and how did it happen. Just wondering how the manual and COA were burned.

The two bolts missing on the steering rack hold the suspension pan cover on I took those bolts off to take the picture so you could see what was under the cover

Bid in the amount of $31,500
Why is the steering rack missing two important bolts in picture #81?
How far back does the rust go near the torque tube in picture #67?
Good bones but some of that can be non-trivial to address.

If I end up keeping the car I will redo it in tangerine I have a tangerine 70 S coupe and they would make a nice couple
I believe it was re-painted blue probably in the 80s the odd thing about it is underneath the dash and underneath the silver paint it is a tangerine car I tried to get a cardex on the car to see where it was delivered and what color it was etc. and they stop doing Cardex in 1969
On the authenticity doc it says it was originally painted silver. Do you know when it was repainted in the blue?

Four of the Fuchs wheels Have matching dates the spare does not match the other four
Good morning. Follow up question. Do all 5 wheels have the correct date stamp on the back of them? Thank you I’m advance
I did post more pictures picture 91 shows casting # 901.101.101.3r which indicates this is a 1970 case. Picture number 90 Shows 911/02 Which indicates this is a case for an S engine
The font looks like the factory numbers and the 9and 6 are the same stamp can the seller take pictures of the other stamped numbers on the case?

@pilot73 Thanks for the info, this is obviously not a matching numbers car and someone has made a feeble attempt at stamping the number on the block. The rest of the number also looks a little wrong compared to other cars I have owned.
Can you confirm what the actual engine is? Do you have any info?
@ bored Yes after cleaning it up it does look like a nine instead of a six

@pilot73 so the number in pic has a typo? Or do I need new glasses.
I'm concerned about the engine number, the first number looks like a 9 and you're confirming it's matching numbers. Am I missing something? Can you post a pic of the number cleaned up?
Thx
On the photo of the certificate of authenticity it does not have a number for the transmission that originally came with that car however the transmission that came with the car is in the serial number range that would’ve come with that car from the factory at the time the engine stamped the numbers are the same numbers on the certificate of authenticity so that is the original motor that came with the car the transmission number cannot be verified I tried to get a cardex on the car but the cardex Stopped in 69 according to my contact in Germany with the factory so I was not able to get a cardex with the car which would’ve verified the transmission and the engine number
