The Porsche 912 was introduced alongside the original 911 sports car in 1965 and was offered as an entry-level model featuring the same bodywork underpinned by a lightweight and easy-to-maintain 1,600cc engine. This 1968 example is a Porsche 912 Coupe that was reportedly acquired by the seller from its original owner in California. Said to benefit from a rebuilt engine and transmission, this 912 is now being offered for auction out of New York,
This 912 Coupe was previously refinished in the current red paint color and features chrome brightwork for the headlight rings, window surrounds, door handles, horn grilles, and bumper overriders. Other equipment includes a sunroof, polished aluminum rocker panel moldings, a fender-mounted antenna, a chrome driver’s side mirror, silver rear badging, pop-out rear quarter windows, and slotted 15” wheels with chrome hubcaps. Some imperfections are depicted in the photo gallery along with the driver’s door jamb tag which shows the car’s original color to have been Burgundy Red (6808).
The interior features black leatherette upholstery with basketweave pattern inserts on the seats and door panels. Accessories include a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, a brushed aluminum dashboard trim strip, manual window cranks, a Porsche-crested gear knob, folding rear seatbacks, front seat headrests, Porsche-logo floor mats, a heater, a locking glovebox, a quartz clock, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette stereo paired with aftermarket speakers. Some tears are shown on the passenger seat and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.
An air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four engine delivers up to 90 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox. The seller indicates the engine and transmission were previously rebuilt and the car remains in good mechanical order with no outstanding maintenance items.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, some documentation, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “One owner, rust-free California car purchased from the original owner, always garage kept, all matching rebuilt motor and transmission, excellent condition, runs, drives and shifts great, just serviced before sale, comes with the original toolkit and spare.”

Is it just me or do the seats look twisted in pic 120. Maybe it’s the camera angle? Pile of seat belts? Rear speakers are not hard mounted? Doesn’t look like a Cali car underneath or well cared for in any case. The sun roof appears to have leaked in the past if it doesn’t leak now, but shouldn’t have been a problem if stored indoors? This one is tough to get behind without proper documentation and curent condition of underside.
Bid in the amount of $13,000
@wcode YES, you can raise and lower as you desired, thanks
So to confirm, you can adjust the ride so it doesn't look like a stink bug?
Bid in the amount of $10,000
@prmnorton1 it really changes the look and I think it helps it ride a little better, I usually lower all of mine, thanks
@justlookin1 hi sure, On the front there are adjustable bolts on bottom of the torsion bars. And On the rear the new arms have adjustment bolts. You can raise or lower all of these, thanks
@prmnorton1 You mentioned you lowered the front end and can raise it back up. Please describe how this was done.
Thank you
@Chipper the car was this color when I purchased it, I’ll send pics of engine number, i confirmed with my Porsche specialist as well
9Do you have any history on the color change to this resale red? Can we get pics of engine number(how was it confirmed) and the front suspension pan?
@prmnorton1 it is a confirmed numbers matching car, I was not about to get maintenance records due to original owner passing away, car was very well cared for, runs drives and shifts flawlessly, he was the only owner of the vehicle, Thanks
Numbers match? Copy of maintenance records? Rebuilt receipts?
@Somer no leaks, everything is tight on it, thanks
Is there a problem with the sunroof gasket? Does it leak?
@Chipper the car was lowered on the front
I can raise it back up if desired
Suspension is very strong and in excellent condition, thanks
Very unfortunate looking from the front with the crooked turn signal and horn grill. The dumped front suspension does not look good either but all fixable.
