This 1968 Porsche 911 Coupe was completed on April 9, 1968, and originally delivered in Los Angeles, where it was acquired by the current owner in 2015. Immediately after their purchase, extensive maintenance was performed including services of the brake, suspension, and fuel systems. Additionally, the vehicle received upgrades including SSI heat exchangers, an M&K stainless steel muffler, a Fabspeed carbon fiber rain shields, Bilstein shocks, and a bump steer kit. This 911 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
The Karmann-built body of this 911 was originally specified with a Light Ivory (6804) finish, which is said to have undergone a respray in the 1970s following wind damage. Exterior details include a tan vinyl center stripe, front leather hood straps, yellow-lens fog lights, headlight mesh grilles, a driver’s side mirror, and Shell fender decals. In 2015, the front and rear glass were resealed, with corrosion around the glass addressed during the process. Additionally, Euro-style headlights were installed, and the badging was replaced during the same year. It rides on 15” wheels with spacers and Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tires (185/70).
The cabin is appointed with black leatherette complemented with a brushed aluminum dashboard and an aftermarket 917-style shift knob. The equipment also includes VDO instrumentation, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio, roll-up windows, door-mounted armrests, and an added fire extinguisher. The seller adds that the driver’s seat underwent restuffing in 2015, and repairs to the dashboard and driver’s door panel were performed in 2016. Rust-through on the floors is visible in the provided gallery.
The 2.0-liter flat-six engine, originally rated at 130 HP and 128 lb.-ft of torque, underwent significant work in 2015, including crankcase machining, fuel tank refreshing, and carburetor rebuilding. In the same year, the four-wheel disc brakes were overhauled, featuring rebuilt calipers and new hoses. Additional enhancements included the installation of SSI stainless steel heat exchangers and an M&K stainless steel muffler in 2016, along with Fabspeed carbon air cleaner covers. The timing chain tensioners were rebuilt in 2017, followed by the installation of new valve cover gaskets in 2018 and spark plug replacement in August 2023. Suspension upgrades in 2018 included Bilstein shocks, torsion bars replacement, and rear trailing arm bushings replacement, complete with the fitment of a bump steer kit.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The Porsche was sold new to a Doctor in Beverly Hills. After two years of ownership, he sold it to a Gentleman who ran the Beverly Hills Hotel. He daily drove the car for most of his life including driving the 911 to his vacation home in Palm Springs. On one of these trips, the paint was damaged by wind and the Porsche was repainted. The 2nd owner’s son inherited the Porsche when he passed away and drove the Porsche occasionally. Priorities in his life eventually led to the Porsche being parked in his garage for a decade. Eventually, the current owner acquired the Porsche from his best friend, rescuing the 911 from its decade in the garage and performing a restoration of the engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and electronics. The current owner took on a variety of aesthetic projects to create his vision for the 911. He has owned the 911 for 9 years and attended various rallies and has been invited to show the car at various Luftgekults and the latest Air + Water event in Costa Mesa.”

Sold for $68,000
HI MSD911 - Please submit an offer you feel comfortable with and we will consider it!
I’m interested but it’s still too highly priced given no Fuchs and work it’ll need to make it sound. If you consider a further reduction LMK? Best, Michael

Thanks,
@BusterBoston, this a based 911. The L differs as follows: "The L stands for "luxury" or "Lux" in German. The 911L was only produced in 1968, and was the flagship model in the U.S. It was same car as a 911S except with a detuned motor producing 130 HP; the 911S was not available in the U.S. in 1968. Hope that helps shed light.
I once owned a '68 911L. What is the difference between the L and yours?

@Andersenrandy- the Fabspeed part was an item for another car. The rain Shields can be seen on top of the carburetors in the 4th image from the top of the page.. Apologies for any confusion that caused..
@rhmoritz The 911 is matching numbers verified by the Kardex and COA which are featured in the gallery. Uploading video links showing under the matts shortly.

Can you please provide pictures of under the driver and passenger carpeting? I didn’t see those in the gallery.
@rcnl - Great question. The perforation in the floor pan was from water that dwelled from the interior side at some point in the Porsches life. It is highly localized in the two spots depicted and there is no other know rust in this Porsche which has spent it's whole life in Los Angels. Easy enough to patch but since there are no other issues it was decided to leave it as since It has not changed during the 9 years of current ownership.
Bid in the amount of $22,000
Bid in the amount of $20,000
The rust / holes on photos 138-140 are located towards the front or rear? How’s it looking under the carpet?

Such a cool SWB. As noted below, the quality of the seller is just as important, if not more so, than the car. I know this seller well and have transacted with him several times. He is honest, transparent, and forthright in his presentation. Top marks all around.
And. . . . as noted, this car is really cool!
I have known the seller for almost forty years. He is a fellow enthusiast and knows the early cars extremely well.
Over the years of accumulating some rare P-cars, I have realized that the seller is as important as the car itself.
Buy/bid with confidence.
