One of 268 Porsche 911 Targas produced during the model year, this 1968 example is one of even fewer that came equipped with Porsche’s original Soft Window Targa design featuring a removable plastic rear window. It comes finished in red over black leatherette upholstery and is powered by an air-cooled 2.0-liter flat-six engine paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. It also features four-wheel vented disc brakes, 15” Fuchs wheels, a Nardi steering wheel, factory-optioned bumper horns, and 911S instrumentation. This rare Soft Window Targa is now being offered for auction out of California accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
This 911 has been refinished in red from its original Silver Metallic (96024) color and comes equipped with a zip-out plastic rear window, a removable black roof panel, a brushed stainless-steel Targa bar, factory-optioned bumper horns, fog lights, grille badges, a fender-mounted antenna, and a polished driver’s side mirror. The car rides on 15” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in Kumho Power Star 758 tires sized 165/80. Some imperfections are depicted in the photo gallery.
The cabin is appointed with black vinyl upholstery complemented by basketweave pattern inserts on the seats and door panels, brushed stainless-steel dashboard trim, and a wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel with a matching Porsche-crested gear knob. Optional 911S instrumentation came equipped from the factory and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo has been paired with speakers in the door panels.
Featuring dual carburetors and K&N air cleaners, the 2.0-liter flat-six engine sends power to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle while stopping power comes from ventilated disc brakes at each corner. Images of the undercarriage are provided in the gallery.
This sale will include a clean title and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
