In 1966, the Pontiac GTO departed the Tempest family and became its own model, along with new styling revisions providing for a distinguished appearance. This 1966 Pontiac GTO Convertible came factory-equipped with optional power steering and brakes, a power-operated convertible top, Parchment vinyl trim, bucket seats, a tinted windshield, custom seatbelts, and a Safe-T-Track differential. The car underwent a restoration in 2014, including a repaint in Montero Red, conversion of the automatic gearbox to a period-correct 4-speed M20 Muncie manual transmission, and a rebuild of the 389ci V8 engine with an upgraded Tri-Power induction system. Acquired by the current owner in 2016, this restored Pontiac GTO Convertible is now being offered for auction out of Colorado, accompanied by a collection of concours awards, a car show poster, a Protect-O-Plate, and extensive restoration documents.

The Pontiac GTO gained a model-specific louvered taillight cover for the 1966 model year and more curvaceous bodywork, which was slightly longer and wider than the previous year. This 1966 example came factory-finished in Nightwatch Blue (E) and was refinished in the 1966 paint color of Montero Red under prior ownership, along with sandblasting and refinishing of the underbody. It features a white power-operated convertible top, chrome bumpers and trim, stacked headlamps, dual side mirrors, a hood scoop, GTO badges, and painted 14” Rally I wheels with polished trim rings and center caps. The car rides on Firestone 4-plat Sup-R Belt red line tires. A spare tire and stock Rally wheel are located in the trunk. The seller notes the exterior is in excellent overall condition, and the car has been kept in a climate-controlled garage since the current owner’s purchase in 2016. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin was restored to factory specifications in 2014 with replacement Parchment vinyl upholstery. Accessories include front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, lap belts, woodgrain trim, a wood-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, a floor-mounted shifter, heater, and a Delco AM/FM radio. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.

Power comes from a 389ci V8 engine with 093 cylinder heads and an upgraded Tri-Power induction system, including triple Rochester two-barrel carburetors. The engine was rebuilt during the 2014 restoration, including a valve job, rebuilt carburetors, fuel tank boiling, a new fuel tank sending unit, water and fuel pumps, a new choke, a starter, an alternator, a radiator, and a dual exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement period-correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission and a factory Safe-T-Track differential. The car was factory-equipped with optional power steering and power-assisted drum brakes. The brake cylinders, shocks, and springs were replaced during the restoration. The seller adds that the carburetors are tuned for an 8,000-foot elevation in Colorado, and the car has been driven less than 1,000 miles since the engine was rebuilt.

This sale will include an owner’s manual, a car show poster, a Protect-O-Plate, concours awards, restoration documents, a spare tire, a custom “Tri My Power” license plate, and a clean title.

Any idea the involved cost and expenses, repainting the GTO to its REBLUE color?
I believe that was a DUMB idea changing the color !@@!

Highly documented car folks including PHS and casting number deciphering. Top tier show quality rag top 4-spd.
It will go back into inventory if need be; although maybe interest will arise in the last 2 hours. If there is a successful buyer, he or she will not be disappointed with their purchase.

@GaryE_57 looks like you did a great job cloning the lamans, but I live in southeast Florida and the shipping cost and the sales tax in both states would put me over what I want to spend, so if the 30.000 bid falls thru I'm still willing to talk. It looks like you spent a good amount of time and money on this project, but I'm retired and living on ss so the high bid is just too much for me. Thanks
