Lauded by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car ever made,” the E-Type drew inspiration from the D-Type race car, incorporating unitary construction, disc brakes, independent suspension, and a robust inline six-cylinder engine. This 1966 E-Type, marketed as the XKE in the United States, is finished in red over black leather upholstery and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Refurbished under prior ownership, it is said to have remained within a single family before the current owner’s acquisition in 2017. This Series I is now offered for auction by the seller on behalf of the owner accompanied by a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
This late-model Series I E-Type Roadster was reportedly stripped to bare metal and refinished in red as part of its refurbishment. The badges, chrome trim, side mirror, and windshield gasket are also said to have been replaced during this process. Exterior details include split front and rear chrome bumpers, glass headlight covers, dual exhaust outlets, and 15” chrome wire wheels with two-eared knock-off spinners mounted on 185-series Michelin XVS tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching door panels and carpets. The bucket seats, center console, and armrest were reportedly reupholstered, and the carpets are said to have been replaced during the refurbishment. Equipment includes a wood-rimmed steering wheel, Smiths instrumentation, and various gauges and controls. The seller notes the tuning knob is absent from the aftermarket cassette stereo.
Power is provided by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six engine with triple SU carburetors, originally rated at 265 HP and 283 lb.-ft of torque. A 4-speed manual transmission drives the rear wheels, while braking is handled by four-wheel disc brakes with inboard-mounted rear units. The seller notes that the carburetors, ignition, cooling, and exhaust components were replaced during the refurbishment, along with the braking system, wheels, tires, and shocks.
This sale will include a clean title and a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.

The car has been stored in a climate controlled warehouse. It is started once a week and driven a short distance for exercise but has been in storage. It was recently serviced prior to the PCMarket listing

Hello @seller
These appear to be the same photos and the same miles that were on another auction platform, in 2023.

Where are you located?
Would so love to bid on the amazing E but I can't pay you until I sell my house. I know that sounds like a joke but I am serious.
Highflyer12 The car was repainted in 2015
Great looking XKE! When was the car repainted? Any documentation on this? One receipt in the gallery, do you have any other receipts?
Here is some very cool, additional background information on this exceptional XKE:
Original owner was famous artist and mural painter Charles Kassler who was married to Mexican-American singer, dancer & actress Luisa Espinel Ronstadt. Aunt to pop/rock singer Linda Ronstadt.
Luisa Ronstadt’s husband, artist Charles Kassler was the first owner of this Jaguar.

This is a very nice example and appears to be well sorted.
It's in much nicer cosmetic condition than my 69 Series 2 OTS. That said, I feel a helluva lot more comfortable driving a car that is a bit scruffier, and these things are extremely enjoyable to drive!
I'll be watching this one closely. A lot of Jaguaristas regard these Series 1 4.2s as the sweet spot for E-types.
@Cozad1955 A compression test was performed approximately 4 weeks ago with a consistent 150 lbs across all 6 cylinders. The engine has very few miles on it since a valve job was performed. The color is correct per the Heritage Certificate "Carmen Red". No visible rust, the car has been previously stripped and painted
Is red the original ( factory) color? Any rust? Do you have any compression numbers on the engine? Thanks. SCC
Good morning, Just a neighboring business. Well sorted E Types like this one are dependable, fun, and always a crowd favorite.
Gotta’ love the photo in front of “All City Towing” sign. Hopefully not a “sign”!
