Available for auction is this 1966 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster finished in black over a black leather interior. Lauded by Enzo Ferrari as the “the most beautiful car ever made”, the E-type was derived from the D-type race car and featured unitary construction, disc brakes, independent suspension, and a powerful inline six-cylinder engine. This 1966 example was acquired by the seller in 2008 from its previous owner out of Canada and features a 4.2L inline six-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, a black convertible soft top, 15” wire wheels, an upgraded sound system, and more. The car is said to have undergone a bare metal respray under previous ownership, and was recently serviced with a new fuel pump, brakes hoses, and a rebuilt carburetor. This iconic Jaguar is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maryland.

This E-Type comes finished in black with a matching convertible soft top. The car was previously finished in a shade of red before receiving a bare metal respray in 2000 in its current shade of black. The seller reports that the finish remains in good overall condition, and adds the car has been garage-kept since their purchase in 2008. Some light scratches are noted throughout, as well as a dent near the driver’s side rearview mirror, and minor oxidation on the original chrome trim. The seller has provided a collection of detailed images including some of the restorative process in 2000, which can be found in the gallery. Equipment includes split front and rear chrome bumpers, glass headlight covers, dual exhaust outlets, and a set of 15” chrome wire wheels with two-eared knock-off spinners. The wheels are dressed in a set of Michelin tires measuring 195/75/15.

Inside, the cabin is upholstered in black leather with matching door panels and carpets. The seller reports the seats, convertible top, and rear window remain in very good condition, while the carpets show some deterioration due to age. Features include a 3-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, a suite of Smith’s instrumentation, roll-up windows, toggle switches for various vehicle functions, and lap belts. A Sony radio unit and CD changer have been added and wired to a controller mounted beneath the dashboard.

Power comes from a triple-carbureted 4.2L inline six-cylinder engine which drives the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller notes the cylinder head number (7E 8416-9) matches the engine number on the VIN tag, but the engine block number itself (7E 4154-9) does not match and is believed to have been sourced from an older Jaguar of the same era. Standard features include an independent coil-spring rear suspension, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and a synchromesh gearbox. An upgraded fan speed control box has been integrated into the original Jaguar cooling system and features a dial to adjust the fan speed as desired. Several service records documenting work performed under previous ownership have been provided, and most recently the brakes hoses were repealed with braided stainless steel lines, the triple SU carburetors were rebuilt, and the fuel pump and filter were replaced.

This sale will include two convertible top boot covers, a knock-off hammer, owner’s literature, and a clean title.

Good morning Pcar bidders and potential bidders. This is my first time listing a vehicle on the Pcar site. I want to thank all of you for taking the time to view this auction and considering to bid on this amazingly beautiful Etype Jaguar. I want to extend the offer of answering any questions you may have regarding the car before the end of the auction later today. In my opinion we have set a reasonable reserve based on the stature of a Series 1 Etype OTS (Roadster) but also respectful based on the merits of this car. Whoever is the high bid winner that meets the reserve is going to get a wonderful car that needs nothing to be driven and enjoyed right away. This car has the provenance of a Series 1 Etype with the covered headlamps and toggle switches and taillamp placement but also has the endurance of the 4.2 Liter Inline six cylinder which Jaguar is famous for. You get the best of the Jaguar Etype in one car and you can put the top down and really enjoy it. Good luck bidding and thank you again for taking the time to consider this wonderful car.

@Brentb458 Sorry for the delay in responding. Thank you for the question. To be honest I am 6 foot 2 and I can drive this car. Now to be fair it is a little tight with the original steering wheel but I am able to drive it. What I would recommend looking into which a friend of mine did with his 1969 Etype roadster was replacing the steering wheel with a slightly smaller diameter wood rimmed steering wheel which will help with leg room, shifting, braking, etc. If you have long legs like he did this will go a long way in helping with driving comfort. I have driven his car as well and it does make a difference. I believe Moss Motors offers wood rimmed Moto Lita steering wheels that resemble the E type wheel a bit and come in sizes that range from 13", 14" and 15". Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you.

Beautiful car. Always wanted to buy one, but I’ve sat in several that have almost no legroom. What’s the odds of a 6 foot three guy with long legs driving this thing?
