Inspired by the legendary Porsche 356 Speedster, this custom-built replica features a unique Charcoal Grey Metallic finish over grey upholstery. Power comes from a custom 2.5L water-cooled four-cylinder Subaru engine, paired with a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission. Having covered approximately 1,000 miles since its completion, this Speedster replica is now available for auction by its seller in California.
The exterior is built on a 1973 Volkswagen platform and professionally finished in Charcoal Grey Metallic using a Glasurit paint process, which took approximately 3-4 weeks. Details include a black retractable soft top, chrome trim along the bumpers, bodysides, and rockers, along with polished mirrors & door handles, teardrop-style taillights, a single vent grille, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on slotted 15” wheels with chrome hubcaps, fitted with Solarus tires installed in October 2019. Additional images are available in the gallery.
The cabin presents a pair of black leather-upholstered bucket seats with grey suede centers along with grey carpets below and black floor mats. A black dashboard houses VDO-style instrumentation with green lettering and chrome bezels. Equipment includes a wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, chrome door handles, and a chrome driver’s side grab handle.
Power is delivered by a custom-built 2.5L water-cooled four-cylinder Subaru engine. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual transmission. According to the seller, the transmission has been rebuilt with new bearings, gears, and synchros, featuring a 3.44 ring-and-pinion and a .82 final drive ratio. The updated gearing is designed to better match the torque curve of the Subaru engine. Additionally, 100-mile and 1,000-mile services have been completed.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I am the second owner; I bought the car from a friend. The car has never been driven in the rain. The wipers are stored in the trunk, car looks better without them. I also have a Bra for the front to prevent rock chips. The side curtains are stored in the trunk. The car has always been garaged. The car is a treat to drive and gets a ton of looks. The 100- and 1,000-mile services have been done.”

The Speedster is titled as a 1973 VW, so no smog required in California. The car is insured with Hagerty Insurance for $60K. That was approx the replacement cost 2 years ago. Probably more now. The title is clean. The tags are paid until September 2025.
Could you please provide some information about the title?

Will you give the winning bidder a minute to arrange transport?
The car has disc brakes on all 4 wheels. the hubs are 5 lug like the original Porsche 356. No driving video, however I can produce one if you tell me what you would want in the video.
Is there a driving video? What brakes does this car run? 4 or 5 lug hubs?
