Among the final model year of the Porsche 356 B, this 1963 Porsche 356 B 1600 S features T6 bodywork produced by Karmann with a distinctive twin-grille rear decklid. Acquired by the current owner in 1997, it underwent a refinish in Stone Grey over a reupholstered green interior in 2019. Additionally, its original 1600cc engine was rebuilt within the last 5k miles. This well-presented 356 B is now being offered for auction by the selling dealer out of California.

This Karmann Coupe was refinished in Stone Grey in 2019. Characteristics include chrome trim, a twin-grille rear decklid, and chrome bumpers with integrated exhaust outlets. The 15” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and Pirelli P4 tires from 2013. A small imperfection is noted on the driver’s side rear quarter, additional images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin has been reupholstered with green vinyl. Details include a tan headliner, a body-color dashboard, chrome trim, and tan square-weave carpeting. Equipment includes VDO instrumentation, a locking glovebox, a black-painted three-spoke steering wheel, a wooden shift knob, and lap belts. All gauges and accessories are confirmed to be working properly.

This 356B carries its original 1600cc Super flat-four carbureted engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. For the T6 series, the 1600 Super engine received an improved oil cooler, composite steel/aluminum pushrods, and upgraded piston rings running in cast-iron cylinders. The engine’s front end is said to have been rebuilt within the last 5k miles, and no outstanding maintenance items have been reported.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This vehicle has not been driven much since the restoration. It is in wonderful condition. Everything works as it should.”

Hello everyone we have less than 24 hours left for this auction. Please get your bids in. This is a great car and will not disappoint. Beautiful color tones inside and out runs and drives exceptionally well. Good luck to everyone.

@r23of very nice car and hopefully it does find a good home.

  • LVSMotorcars (seller) 1 weekago

@dougdadmac current caretaker has owned it since 1997 and yes pismo beach is about 45 minutes from Paso Robles

  • r23of 1 weekago

So many greys... Stone, slate, dolphin, heron... Thank you for correcting my mis-read! And thank you for the great link to the Treffen!

  • dougdadmac 1 weekago

PS 6201 was Slate Grey a much darker grey. Stone grey was a 5710 color code. And the 2 interior colors you mention are probably from Der Whites website and were "Standard colors" He also mentioned Irish Green as a 64-65 color but in reality some 63s were Irish Green and my 1st 356 was a 63 Irish Green/black interior while his website shows Fawn and grey as interior colors for Irish Green. Always and never were not in Porsches vocabulary- they ere just trying to build and sell cars- LIke June Syzes Pink 356A that she picked up at the factory on the 1st PCA Treffen: https://www.pca.org/news/from-the-archives-the-first-pca-treffens-to-europe

  • dougdadmac 1 weekago

@r32of Some are driven crazy by any deviation from how they left the factory and I appreciate that . But I also helped some purchase a nice 356B from the widow of the original owner who had color changed his car when it came time for a repaint. To each his own. I once had a decent 356SC that was silver but poorly painted. But I liked it in silver. I got a Kardex and found that the original color was Slate Grey so repainted it Slate Grey and hated it compared to the Silver. My bad, someone elses good.

  • r23of 1 weekago

There seem to be several head-scratchers here... 6201 vs 6210? - did someone repaint the car to a color that was based on a transposition? The car was def Smyrna Green when it left Germany.

Also, that ext color only came w H (brown) & D (grey) interior, while build sheet says B (black), but never w G (green).

Good find @dougdadmac on the 912 engine half. Otherwise pieces look to be a 1600 S90 from 1961, which calls into question other parts match.

Pan looks to have the obvious battery box issue with acid corroding that corner and leaching through.

She looks nice, for sure. Hopefully she finds a good home!

  • dougdadmac 1 weekago

Also, I find it interesting that the current caretaker of this nice T6B lives about 45 miles from where the original owner lived.

  • dougdadmac 1 weekago

Text should be changed to indicate Non Original engine as the case 1/2s are from a late 912 and 3rd piece is from an earlier S90. In no way does this mean that the engine isn't a nice engine or that it runs poorly. While I really like Smyrna green I also like the color combination here Stone Grey/green. I have never been able to tell if an engine is Matching while driving (>:

@uolddog good morning while they're in person, I did not notice anything after reviewing the photos and videos seems to fit pretty well as I had stated in a different comment. I know the trunk lid in the pictures is elevated. I went back and took new pictures of it closed, but the front trunk and the doors and the rear engine cover all seat properly when closed from what I can see.

  • uolddog 1 week, 2 daysago

@seller is the driver’s door a bit “proud” it looks like the lower rear fit is an issue?

  • LVSMotorcars (seller) 1 week, 3 daysago

@dougdadmac photos of the underbelly, including under the battery box have been added to the gallery as well as engine numbers that I could access report will be uploaded soon.

@witz light switch is mounted high between the tack and speedometer. The left-hand side of the clock is the cigarette lighter. The right hand side of the clock is the wiper switch.

Hello everyone, thank you for reaching out with your comments and questions. I have taken some updated photos of the engine, capturing the engine numbers as best that I could. I took new pictures of the underbelly, including the front battery section. I took pictures with the engine cover completely latched to show that it does latch complete I will be providing a Kardex hopefully this evening I'm waiting for it to be sent to me.

  • PorscheÜberAlles 1 week, 3 daysago

Do we know what the original color combo was? Kardex?

  • witz (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

Looks like a great car! I noticed the dash has only a knob for the lights. I don’t see the wiper knob. What is the knob on the right side of the clock?

  • LVSMotorcars (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@dougdadmac Unfortunately the residence does not have a lift. I will try and get better pictures for you of the entire underneath of the vehicle.

  • dougdadmac 1 week, 4 daysago

This listing deserves a full set of underside photos. I suspect that the underside is all original metal in the Karmann style, including the battery box floor with a small patch, but would need good photos to be sure.

  • dougdadmac 1 week, 4 daysago

@dougdadmac @LVSMotorcars I have also sent you a link for where to find all the engine numbers on a 356 engine.

  • dougdadmac 1 week, 4 daysago

In Picture #107 it appears the engine number on the 3rd piece begins with P* 802xxx which would be a S90 engine number. I will contact LVS with my source for a Kardex should you wish to get one.

  • LVSMotorcars (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

Hello everyone, I noticed the rear engine cover was not latched in the photos and looks like it isn't closed all the way. I will go take more photos of the cover latched to show that it does indeed latch and sits flush.

  • LVSMotorcars (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@dougdadmac Good morning. I will go to the owners residence and look through the documents and see what i can find.
