Up for auction is this fully restored 1959 Porsche 356 A 1600 Cabriolet by Reutter. Reported by the seller to be one of only 447 Reutter-bodied Cabriolet’s built for the model year, this 1959 example is said to have been purchased by a private collector in Nebraska during the 1960s who kept the car in storage over the next 40 years. This 356 A was eventually purchased by Lance Pittack, owner of Woodhouse Porsche in Omaha and avid collector, who went on to commission a full bare-metal restoration that was completed over the course of two years. Finished in its original color of Ruby Red while retaining its number’s matching 1600cc engine, this concours-level 356 A Cabriolet is now being offered by its seller in Michigan, accompanied by its original hardtop, factory literature, restoration records, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
During the painstaking restoration process, this 356 was completely dissembled and stripped down to bare metal before its Reutter body shell was placed on a rotisserie to ensure exacting specifications. It was then completely refinished in its originally specified color of Ruby Red and meticulously reassembled to better-than-original standards with a new windshield, body seals, and OEM hardware (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). In addition to its U.S.-market bumpers, this example highlights an original removable Karmann hardtop painted in contrasting black. The factory chrome wheels feature Porsche-crested hubcaps and period-correct Vredestein tires. The seller also notes that an intensive professional detail was recently carried out to ensure a show-quality appearance.
Inside, the cabin has been completely reupholstered with fresh black leather and correct-type Oatmeal Tan square-weave German carpeting. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly including a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio and speaker.
This Cabriolet is equipped with its original 1,582cc (1600) flat-four engine that features dual Solex downdraft carburetors. The engine, gearbox, and braking systems were completely overhauled during the restoration along with a refresh of the suspension with new Boge shock absorbers. A new wiring harness was also installed, and this example comes with an extensive collection of restoration records detailing over 1,550 hours’ worth of labor.
This sale will include a set of 3 keys, some factory literature, a correct-type spare tire, jack, partial toolkit, a factory hardtop with original installation manual, a cabin cover, restoration records, a clean title, and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. For any discerning collector or enthusiast, this exceptionally well-restored 1959 356 A makes an excellent choice.

@pmc Beautiful car - can you post some video? Walk around, running, etc? I assume no soft top on this - do you have hardware , can one be fitted?
Thanks
