This 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster replica is finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Dark Red Wine interior and derives power from a custom-built 1,915cc engine with rare Italian Weber 48 IDA carburetors. The build was commissioned by its original owner from Vintage Speedsters of California and was completed at their facility in Arizona after the company moved in 2019. Having traveled approximately 4k miles since completion and just 1,500 miles driven on its new engine, this high-quality Speedster replica is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
Mounted on a shortened Volkswagen Beetle chassis, the custom fiberglass bodywork is finished in the modern Porsche color of Seal Grey Metallic. Accessories include period-style badging, body-color bumpers, Marchal driving lights, headlamp guards, a Speedster-style side mirror, cats eye taillights, and a black convertible top with a matching tonneau cover and side curtains. It rides on a set of gold powder-coated 15” vintage Porsche/VW wheels dressed in new Pirelli tires. The original chrome rims hubcaps are said to accompany the sale.
The cabin is trimmed in Dark Red Wine upholstery with grey square weave carpeting that extends to the backs of the Speedster-style bucket seats. Equipment includes Crow Enterprizes duck bill lap belts, a Vintage Speed short-throw shifter, an adjustable rearview mirror, Coco floor mats, a retro Bluetooth radio, and a 17” ivory banjo steering wheel situated ahead of LED-illuminated period-style instrumentation.
The air-cooled 1,915cc flat-four engine was built by Jeff Shean of Dirty Garage Speed Shop in California and features an Engle 120 camshaft, SCAT rockers, oversized Mofoco racing heads, custom exhaust, and Italian Weber 48 IDA carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 4-speed Freeway Flyer manual transmission. Performance features include KYB adjustable gas shocks in the rear, Koni front shocks, four-wheel disc brakes, stainless-steel braided fuel lines, and dual electric cooling fans on the underside of the decklid.
This sale will include a clean title.

You would not have to do anything to the exhaust. It is a custom exhaust. The car sounds amazing with that exhaust
Very nice example… but I’d have to do something with that exhaust?

@scottsspeedster I like the way it is titled, seems more accurate. In Florida they go by the chassis 1972 VW.
I haven’t had the car dynode. But that car will do 90 miles an hour in third gear. And you still have one more gear to go
Horsepower?
@Bruce914 this car is not titled as a 1967 VW. Any car that has a speedster replica that it says on the title 1967 VW is a total lie. This car is titled as a porsche special construction. I have been driving this car for a few years now with the Arizona plate and never been pulled over. There are lots of people in California that drive around with out-of-state plates.
The engine that comes with these cars are Chinese Empi motors. The only thing that gets bigger in the engine is the piston size. Everything else is a 1600 cc. Even down to the single barrel kadron carburetors Which in my opinion are not very good. I wanted a true 1914 cc engine. All German internals, racing heads, 48 IDA battalion webers and a custom exhaust.
What happened to the engine it was built with? I see it was replaced after 2500 miles. What is it titled as, ie... 1960 vw, sb100, etc?
Suspension has been upgraded
Hi Scott, beautiful car! Is the suspension set up original Beetle, or has it been upgraded?
