This Porsche 356A 1600 Cabriolet was produced on June 19th, 1957, and delivered new to Hillsborough, California. It features Reutter-built bodywork, a 1,600cc flat-four engine, a 4-speed manual transaxle, red leather upholstery, and 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps. The car is said to have remained under the care of a single family for over 50 years and underwent refurbishment between 1989 and 2008, during which time the exterior was refinished in white. It changed hands with its next owner in 2020 and was acquired by the seller later that year. This 356A has since been treated to an engine overhaul, a refurbished steering wheel, and a new black boot cover. Accompanied by service records and a copy of its original Kardex showing matching engine numbers, this 356A is now being offered for auction out of Texas.
In 1989, the Reutter bodywork was refinished in white from its original shade of Graphite Metallic. Equipment includes a black convertible top and matching boot cover, dual chrome mirrors, mesh headlight guards, body-colored bumpers with chrome overriders, gold model lettering, a Reutter coachwork badge, a fender-mounted antenna, and 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and Michelin tires. The seller notes the boot cover was replaced under their ownership, and some corrosion can be seen on the passenger side and in the battery box. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features red leather bucket seats with matching door panels, charcoal square weave carpeting, a black leather dashboard pad, and a painted body-color dash fascia. Accessories include lap belts, a Blaupunkt radio, analog VDO gauges, and a locking glovebox. The white two-spoke steering wheel is fitted with a chrome horn ring and was refurbished by Koch’s of Acton, California, in 2021.
Stamped with a serial number matching the original Kardex, this 356A is powered by an air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four engine. It delivers up to 60 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. An engine overhaul was performed under current ownership including new air and heat vent valve covers. Service records are provided for reference in the gallery.
This sale will include service records, a copy of the Kardex, and a clean title.

This is a highly original example other than the color change 30+ years ago. Notice the keys and locks-correct; the correct wound-up wires in the battery box: the original second wire to the front (and rear) of the hood release; look at the finished engine before installation, yes, even the delamination of the front window-upper left. Thanks.

I bought this car from Ernst Kuehn Automotive, Marin, four years ago. He had it for roughly 35+ years ago. He painted it and had the top put on 35 years ago and he got sick and it sat for 35 years ago covered in his garage. That is why it only has 89,000 miles. I don't know how long he had it but it was a very nice car when he bought it.

Thanks, Chris, for the comment. It was a European delivery car. It spent its whole life in California until I moved to Texas two years ago to join my family.
I bought this car 4 years ago. It didn't run. I rebuilt the brakes and fixed the engine. I added lots of parts to make it a really nice driver-see list. It was painted 30+ years ago and the seller got sick and did not finish the restoration. There are only two rust spots on the whole car: the back of the battery box and a few rust bubbles on the leading edge. I painted the undercoating; see 135, 140, 129, and 136. It has 89,000 original miles.
The license plate alone should be worth a hundred grand!!
Thanks for the bids and comments on my Cabriolet. Any questions I'm happy to answer.
