We are pleased to present this 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 Roadster finished in two-tone Reno Red and Black over a matching leather interior. Designed in-house by Donald Healey based on the Austin A90 Atlantic saloon, the Austin-Healey 100 was built from 1953-1956 and derived its name from the car’s ability to reach 100 MPH. The second-generation BN2 introduced a four-speed manual transmission, larger front wheel arches, a unique rear axle, and an optional 100M performance package with larger carburetors, a cold air intake box, high-compression pistons, a high-lift camshaft, and a revised front suspension. This 1956 example was sold new in Yokohama, Japan, and was the subject of a full bare metal restoration in 1991 including the addition of the 100M Le Mans performance package. Following the restoration, this BN2 Roadster earned Gold level certification from the Austin-Healey Concours Registry in 1993 and has remained part of a large private collection in Maryland. Accompanied by a certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, this beautifully restored numbers-matching 100 Roadster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This Austin-Healey was stripped down to bare metal and refinished in the period-correct theme of Reno Red and Black during the 1991 restoration. The entirety of this process is documented on a USB flash drive and consists of 25+ hours of restoration footage that will accompany the sale along with a black soft top and side curtains. A 100M-style adjustable windshield was also fitted along with the corresponding louvered hood and a leather tie-down strap. Other details include chrome bumpers with overriders, chrome fender accents, and fender-mounted chrome mirrors. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. This 100 Roadster rides on chrome wire wheels with two-ear knock-off hubs and new 205/70 General Altimax tires.
The cockpit features bucket seats trimmed in black leather with red piping along with matching door panels, black carpeting, a black dashboard, and Austin-Healey rubber floor mats. Equipment includes a heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, an upholstered center armrest with a chrome ashtray, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 120-MPH speedometer, a 6k-RPM tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for amperage, a temperature, and an analog clock. The signatures of Gerry Coker, the designer of the Austin-Healey 100, and Roy Jackson Moore, competition manager for North American Austin, appear on the inside of the trunk lid.
This Austin-Healey 100 is powered by a 2.6L inline four-cylinder engine that generates up to 110 HP equipped with the 100M Le Mans Modification Kit, which adds larger dual SU carburetors, an aluminum intake manifold, a higher-flow airbox, high-compression 8:1:1 pistons, and a high-lift camshaft. The engine stamping 1B/232253 matches the number listed on the BMIHT certification. The seller reports this Austin-Healey has been serviced in preparation for delivery including a tune-up and new tires.
This sale will include a British Motor Industry Heritage trust certificate mounted in a frame with the 1993 Austin-Healey Concours Gold Award, and photos featuring the car before and after the restoration. A classic English roadster with rich history, this award-winning 1956 Austin-Healey 100 BN2 Roadster is ready to be displayed, driven, and enjoyed by a new caretaker.

Lemans registry shows a badge bar and lights. what happened to these?
Thanks for underside photos. Bit of filler under the right side of the trunk perhaps? Appears the usual Austin minor oil leaks exist. Lifter cover or coming further down?
@JFREI Hello! The underside is in great condition and as nice as the exterior. Please see photos here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mrm5nf04li38n2x/AAAf6uH72Qqi46FKzW3Qnn3qa?dl=0
Any underside photos available? The mildew spotting in the trunk suggests the storage area humidity was too high. Makes m concerns about leather an trunk liner conditions and I assume a new owner will need to recharge the trunk.

You're welcome. Sincere words indeed. I wish I could afford this gem, but I know what it's worth and I can't. Nobody said life was fair!
@WRENCH.56 Thank you for your kind words :)
A beautiful car!
I found a 56 100-M in a barn in Altamont, NY. in 1963 for $400! It was a retired racer that had belonged to an Inskip mechanic and was the first car I ever restored (such as my restoration skills were as a 19 year old kid). It was an absolute blast to drive and , IMO one of the most beautiful British sports cars ever designed. I actually think it is a way more pure sports car than my current E-Type OTC.
I'll be watching this one closely.
Hello! Good luck everyone - let me know if anyone has any questions about this spectacular Austin Healey. Thank you!
