The MG TD represented an evolution from the earlier MG TC, incorporating advancements like the hypoid rear axle, rack and pinion steering, and independent front suspension for enhanced ride and handling. This 1952 example reportedly underwent extensive refurbishment by BMC Restorations in Kiln, Mississippi, during previous ownership and has been predominantly stored in a climate-controlled garage. Powered by a 1,250cc inline-four engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, it has been refinished in blue over a tan leather interior. As previously listed on PCARMARKET, this restored MG TD is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This example is finished in blue and was repainted in 2007 under prior ownership. Notable exterior features include a soft top and top boot, a folding windshield, running boards, grille slats, Lucas driving lights, reverse-hinged doors, fender-mounted mirrors, and chrome-finished bumpers with overriders and luggage rack. It rides on 15” steel wheels with polished hubcaps fitted with tires reportedly in very good condition, accompanied by a matching spare mounted at the rear. The seller states an absence of rust, dents, or scratches on the paint, the chrome exhibits no pitting or oxidation, and the tonneau cover is in excellent condition. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin presents a split-bench seat upholstered in tan leather that extends to the door panels contrasted with black carpets. Amenities comprise lap belts, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a glovebox, and door pockets. Noteworthy features include a Moto-Lita steering wheel, Jaeger instrumentation, and an upgraded electronic ignition system. The seller reports that the clock does not maintain accurate time, and the odometer is not precise.
The 1,250cc XPAG inline-four has been refurbished and is outfitted with dual SU carburetors. It delivers power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission, which also underwent a rebuild in 2007. Additionally, it features independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and drum brakes on all four corners. The seller indicates that the vehicle undergoes annual maintenance and has meticulous service records. A recent inspection by a mechanic revealed no mechanical issues.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a registration, a toolkit, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, a sales brochure, original ignition parts, and MG memorabilia & magazines.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this MG TD for many years and drive it on weekends in the Locust Valley area from May to November. It has rarely been out in the rain and never in the snow. The vehicle is stored in a climate-controlled garage under a custom cover and on a battery tender. All maintenance is up to date. I will miss touring the north shore on crisp fall days but I have recently retired and it is time for me to move on. It is a very special English sports car and I will miss her.”

Doc18015, thank you for visiting my auction. You have a keen eye for details and I respect your observations. MGBOB
A very nice example of the TD ! Some changes that should be completed to make it a possible high point car: The grill must be color changed to match the interior color; the dash wood is not in keeping with the original; the sump should not be painted; just alloy. As said, a minimally $32-35,00 auto as is with corrections, much higher. Good luck!

@Zographos Indeed ‘she’ does… Bessie
Thanks for asking.
Does “she” have a name?
