Available for auction is a 1:8 Scale 1966 Ford GT40 by DeAgostini. This superbly detailed die-cast model in metal and injection-molded plastic is a 1:8 scale replica of the legendary endurance racing car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times between 1966 and 1969.

The Ford GT was created to break Ferrari’s dominance in the prestigious world of motor racing. In 1965, racing legend Carroll Shelby, creator of the Cobra, took control of the team and the GT scored its first win. After further development, in 1966 the 7.0 liter Mk II cars came 1st, 2nd and 3rd at Daytona, Sebring and then Le Mans. The Wyer Racing GT, chassis number 1075, came first in four other world-class long-distance events. This is a replica of the car that was driven to an epic victory at Le Mans by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver for the second time in 1969.

The car is finished in a Gulf officially licensed blue and orange paint scheme over black leather upholstery, orange-finished 15″ BRM wheels, fixed-back bucket seats, plexiglass door windows, and VDO instrumentation. The bodywork of the GT40 is constructed of solid metal, and features a Gulf officially licensed blue and orange paint scheme with #6 roundels. Equipment includes a rear spoiler, Lemans-style fuel caps, vented engine covers, dual mirrors, side air intake ducts, plexiglass door windows, a single windshield wiper, and dual exhaust outlets that exit in the center of the rear fascia. Orange 15″ BRM knock-off wheels are mounted with Firestone Sport Car Special white-letter tires.

The cockpit features fixed-back bucket seats upholstered in black leather with ring-grommet ventilation joined by a matching dashboard, center console, and door panels. Equipment includes a center-mounted switch panel, red Sabelt-branded seat belts, and fire extinguisher at the passenger footwell. The model comes complete with a wooden and plexiglass display case, Gulf- livery mug with “6” roundels, and three 1:43 scale LeMans-Winning GT40 variants. The buyer is responsible for shipping, shipping insurance, handling, and transactional fees. PCARMARKET is not responsible for anything lost or damaged during shipping.

@Metalphysician thank you for taking the time to explain all of that too me. Obviously I was completely unaware of this segment of the car modeling hobby. I would love to own a version of this exact Gulf Blue GT40 but will have to shop for something from a different manufacturer and not a hand made kit like these. I had no intention of pissing so many hobbyists off with my comments and if I could delete them I would.

@jazzyg72 - there is a whole hobbyist/enthusiast market that builds these model kits (myself included). They are not built by the company, but rather sold as subscription-based services where you receive ~100 stages of parts over months (usually up to a year) and assemble the model at home. You can build them straight out of the box or add countless embellishments (painting, custom parts, etc). They are high-quality, massive, and weigh a ton (close to 20lbs). When the kits are in active production, they end up costing $1500-2000 total, but that does not account for the individual builder's time, skill, additional customization, etc. Unbuilt kits, especially out of production ones, are worth a lot because all the parts are together (rather than waiting a year) and are a blank canvas for the next builder. The other option is to purchase a built kit, which is what is presented here for auction/sale. Learn more here: https://www.deagostini.com/us/scale-models/ford-gt
    and https://www.agoramodels.com/us/ferrari-250-gto/

Side note: IMO, Amalgam is another tier above the hobbyist-tier subscription kits (e.g. DeAgostini, Agora, Eaglemoss, etc). Their detail and craftsmanship are further above what these subscription companies produce and beyond what most hobbyists could further enhance.

Actually, the buy it now price is about market-correct for this scale and this car. These are not toys; they are scale models done to a very high standard. The Amalgam Collection 1/8 LeMans GT40 model of 1075 is MUCH more than the BIN price here.

  • DolceClassico (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Unbuilt kits retail for around $4k. DeAgostini is a prestigious model builder. Perfectly built ones should sell north of that. It takes weeks if not months to build them. These were produced in very limited numbers. This is very far from just a "20 inch metal car". The detail is exquisite. Check out Amalgams site and let me know what you think of their 1:8 scale model car prices.

Well okay then but today the market has spoken and the current value is $525, Good luck with your outrageous $3200 BIN price. There may be 1 person somewhere on this planet willing to pay such an exorbitant price for a toy car. The question will be if he will find it here?
