Up for auction is a pristine 2-owner 1989 Porsche 911 Targa finished in classic Guards Red. This Targa is showing to be one of the more immaculate examples on the market, given its age and mileage. According to the seller, the car has spent its entire life in California, while being very well kept by both owners. The current seller has had ownership of this 911 since 2002 and has performed a handful of tasteful upgrades in order to enhance the drivability and performance of the vehicle.
The seller states that this car has never endured any paint work; rendering it in all-original condition. Accordingly, all body panels are stated to be original, though the seller did have the font fender inner edge rolled for better tire clearance. As seen in the gallery photos, the paint is in well above-average condition aside from a few rock chips and a very minor blemish on the Targa bar. The original factory fuch wheels are wearing a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires that have a good amount of tread life remaining.
The original black leather interior is also stated to be in excellent condition with well-below normal wear. The seller does note some slight fading on the driver’s armrest. All electronics work as they should including the original VDO instruments and the upgraded Pioneer CD/bluetooth receiver (factory Blaupunkt unit included with sale). Please note that the A/C has been fully replaced and upgraded to a Griffiths Technical unit with a total cost of over $4k.
As per the included Certificate of Authenticity, the original matching numbers 3.2-liter flat-six engine is paired with the iconic G50 5-speed manual transmission. This Targa has received many performance upgrades including:
Recent service items were performed this past year including an oil/filter change and a replacement of all brake pads. The car was fully reviewed by the shop owner who deemed it to be one of the cleanest and driest examples he has seen in many years. The service history and running condition of this car match its exceptional aesthetic presence. The seller has provided a spreadsheet outlining all of the service items done under his ownership.
In 1966 Porsche introduced the 911 Targa, a hybrid between a convertible and a coupe. The 1989 Carrera Targa was the final year and most sorted iteration of the g-body 911.
This G50 Targa is being sold with all of the recent records, a clean Carfax, original books, and two sets keys.

@targaguy great use for an ashtray! Much better than the original purpose.
@targaguy PS - btw, the reason I hadn't noticed ... I have a small outdoor temperature sensor located behind the driver's side front wheel and keep the display in the ashtray ... I can ask the PCARmktg folks to post a pic if you'd like ...
@Tpruett - re the dash "sag"...good eye, I hadn't noticed it. I just took a close look at it and it is an unsupported area of the lower dash edge which has apparently settled over time. That section does have a metal frame which I believe could be tightened up. My initial assessment would be to pull the radio, drill a pilot hole and use a sheet metal screw to pull in from above.

@targaguy @targaguy, thanks for the explanation on the extra Targa bars. I have a question about the dash. Right under the radio, the dash seems to sag a bit. Can you advise on that and whether you've looked into repairing it before?
@gladiator77 agree. this example is immaculate.

@ManuPaulin The Targa Brace is intended to stiffen the chassis for the targa given the removable roof. If you look at the back seat picture where you see the front passenger seatbelt, you can see the silver bar that attaches at the top and bottom seatbelt attach points. Therefore it can be easily removed if desired.
Hello, what is the "targa brace" ?
I can't see anything unusual on the pictures.

@tymwalt Hello, we are emailing you a photo of the location for the bid button.
Hello Everyone,
I am attempting to bid but I don't see a bid button anywhere on this page. Only see leaving a comment and Send button. I did already put a CC on my account. Any assistance would be appreciated.

@CurtGT3RS Tires were mounted in April 2015 at 90,265 miles. They currently have approx 7/32' tread depth. The two date codes I was able to see are 4013 and 0813. The other 2 are on the inside sidewall.
From what I understand, the intro of the hydraulic chain tensioner in 1984's 3.2 engine solved most of the earlier problems so nothing required on my 1989
Hi Larry -
Do you know how much tread depth there is on the tires and the date code? Also have the studs and chain tensioners been done on the car?
Bid in the amount of $7,000
Hi, I'm Larry the targa's owner.
I've had the pleasure of driving it for the past 17 years and now it's time to pass it along for the next person to enjoy.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
