Representing the genesis of Porsche’s Boxster model, this launch-year 1997 example is finished in Pastel Yellow over a Black partial leather interior. It comes equipped with a 2.5-liter flat-six engine, a 5-speed manual transaxle, optional stainless-steel door sill guards, heated power mirrors, an engine cover storage compartment, a CD holder, and 17” Carrera twist-spoke wheels. Originally sold in Ohio, this Boxster spent most of its life in California and Virginia before the current owner’s purchase in 2023. It benefits from recent services, including a new soft top, brake pads, rotors, upgraded stainless-steel brake lines, and rear sway bar end links. Showing approximately 41k miles on the odometer, this early 986 is now being offered for auction out of Michigan.
The exterior is finished in Pastel Yellow (L12M), a new color for the 1997 model year. Equipment includes a replacement black convertible top, integrated fog lights, side air intakes, a removable cabin wind deflector, heated power mirrors, dual roll hoops, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and a center-mounted exhaust outlet. The optional 17” Carrera twist-spoke wheels were mounted with new Michelin tires about 2 years ago, within the last 10k miles. The seller notes one small dent on the lower driver’s side rocker panel towards the front of the car. Detailed images are provided in the galley along with a clean CARFAX report.
The Black partial leather interior includes power-adjustable seats, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, optional stainless-steel “Boxster” logo door sills, a CD storage compartment, a storage pocket on the engine cover, power windows, a central locking system, automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system, and an aftermarket Continental Bluetooth stereo. The original AM/FM/cassette radio is included in the sale. An area of bubbling is noted towards the top of the driver’s door card, and several pixels are missing from the digital odometer, although the screen remains legible.
Up to 201 HP and 181 lb-ft of torque come from the mid-mounted 2.5-liter M96 flat-six engine. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle, and stopping is handled by 4-piston monobloc brakes. The rear sway bar end links were replaced along with the brake rotors, brake pads, brake fluid, and upgraded stainless-steel lines within the last 2k miles. An oil and filter change was also performed within the last 500 miles.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

@FunRide32 All of the mentioned items work. The mirrors are power and work. The seats on this model are manual forward and back. The backrest is electric and works. Headlights, taillights, turn signals operate.

@richjs43 yes small and lower front rocker panel on driver side. IMs not done. This is any early build, which had the dual row IMS, not the 2.7 found in 2000 that had the higher failure rate. I am out of town and won’t be able to get any more pictures or date code.
IMS done? Tire date codes? Can we get a close up picture of dent (must be very small, not noticeable in the pictures. BTW, I owned the exact car. Bought new , ordered it after I saw the prototype at the 1993 NY AUTO SHOW. I waited 4 years for it. Kept it 7 years and traded it in with 10k miles on it for a new 911.

Hello, up for auction is my ‘97 boxster. Hate to part with it, but it is time for it to be enjoyed by another. Failed to mention to pcar, that within the last 3,000 miles I replaced the coil packs and spark plugs.
