Introduced in 1962, the T6 variant marked the final iteration of the Porsche 356B. With structural and technical updates, Porsche commissioned Karmann, known for the Notchback Coupe, to produce the T6 Coupe bodywork. This 1963 example has been completely refinished in silver over a reupholstered red leather interior and is powered by a replacement 1600cc flat-four engine and 4-speed manual transmission. This well-presented 356 is now being offered for auction out of California.

Factory specified in Ivory (6204), this example’s Karmann bodywork has since been stripped to bare metal and refinished in silver. Equipment includes chrome trim, an aftermarket bullet-style driver’s side mirror, front window vents, a twin-grille rear decklid, and custom quad exhaust outlets. The car rides on 15” slotted wheels with chrome hubcaps and Porsche-crested center crests. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin has been reupholstered with red leather spanning the seats, door panels, dashboard cover, and rear shelf. Details include chrome trim, a body-color dashboard, VDO instrumentation, a black-painted three-spoke steering wheel, a push-button radio, and tan square-weave carpeting. The headliner has also been replaced. The seller has not confirmed the functionality of the gauges, clock, or heater. Speakers are not equipped.

A replacement air-cooled 1600cc flat-four engine and 4-speed manual transmission were reportedly fitted throughout the early 2000s. The seller notes the cylinder heads have been replaced, the carburetors have been rebuilt, and the fuel system, including the tank, lines, and pump, has been fully cleaned and refreshed. Service approximately 20 years ago reportedly included a valve adjustment and a brake service, including replacement of the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and shoes. No outstanding maintenance items have been reported.

This sale will include a clean title, one key, and a toolkit.

The seller would like you to know: “This example is basically brand new.”

@jrwarden everything says on the title and owner says its a 1963, engine isn't original but its period correct hence why it could be a earlier motor, personally i am basically just listing the car for him and working off what i have with the car

  • AcePhotography (seller) 4 days, 12 hoursago

@tfk92C4 It is a Porsche engine, reason being for not the number on the engine being shown is becasue seller/ owner didn't provide the engine number to me and when the photographer went out he didn't get any clear photos and in the interest of time i wasn't able to get it fully.

You did have an engine number photo when it was recently listed on Hemmings. But you would never say for certain if it was indeed a Porsche engine. Does anyone know if it is a Porsche engine? Why not show the engine number?

  • em4bartz 1 weekago

The motor number is almost discernable in photo #91. Looks like it starts with 604xxx, which would be a late '60 early '61 Normal. VIN #211644 is late '62.

  • jrwarden (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Very intrerested in this car but need to know is this a 1962 or 1963. Though the 63's were disc brake cars. Real need a bit more on restoration work, engine ID #. I'm a cash buyer for the right car.

  • AcePhotography (seller) 1 weekago

@airpower sadly I don’t have any access to the engine number which I know has greatly hurt the sale of the vehicle and everything, but before being put into storage by the owner, he didn’t provide the engine number which I had asked

    @jcgoodlett2 1. 12v system I believe
    2. Legitimately under 5 miles on engine sense rebuild
    3. I am not 100% on the s model that’s what the car came with but I think it would be good to assume it is, owner didn’t give me much information, older gentlemen and got it from a neighbor and restored it for fun.
    4. They were replaced with stock heads I believe.
    5. Drum brakes
    6. Tank has been cleaned
    7. The only shots available under careers were the ones provided.
    8. There’s no rust anywhere on the card all super clean super straight.

  • jcgoodlett2 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    Follow on questions
    7) any shots availed of the undercarriage?
    8) any rust anywhere?

    Thanks in advance

  • jcgoodlett2 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    Several questions for Sellers consideration
    1) 6 or 12volt?
    2) how many miles on the motor since rebuild?
    3) is it an S model as the back implies?
    4) if so, what were the cylinder heads replaced with?
    5) drum or disc brakes
    6) How was the tank cleaned?

    Thanks in advance

@mrp356b Not 100% on the vin owner didn't give to me when I was told to help list the car

  • mrp356b 1 week, 2 daysago

Is this a late 1962 356B, that is what I determined by the 211644 Vin? What is the Engine Serial Number, please?

  • Mach.86 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Do you have any documentation or photos of when the car went through it's "full restoration " and rebuild? Thank you

@ntoddmiller You are correct, the engine and trans is not original to the car but is exactly what would have come with the car after the full rebuild. floor pan is orginal and no rust is present. The car went through a FULL RESTORATION on everything and anything orginal that could be used was used

  • ntoddmiller (registered bidder) 1 week, 6 daysago

When you say replacement engine and transmission, can I assume that means the engine and transmission serial numbers do not match the Kardex, and/or are not original to the car? Is the floor pan original or has it been replaced? Is there any rust?
