Among the final iterations of Porsche’s mid-rear–engine, air-cooled sports cars, this 1975 Porsche 914 was originally owned in Southern California before relocating to the Midwest. Following the seller’s acquisition in 2003, the car received a cosmetic restoration including a refinish in Arctic Silver Metallic, a refurbished black interior, 16” Boxster wheels, and various exterior upgrades. In 2010, a 1984 Porsche 911-sourced 3.2-liter flat-six engine was installed along with a Steve Wong performance chip, Carrera-derived front suspension and brakes, and additional enhancements. This meticulously restored 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Indiana.
The exterior received a refinish in Arctic Silver Metallic in 2005. The seller notes that all removable parts were disassembled, primed, and painted separately. Additionally, the targa top was removed, sanded, and painted to match the body. A 914 rear reflector was installed along with 911-sourced flag-style mirrors and a manually operated trunk release system. It rides on 16” Boxster wheels and features a 5-lug conversion utilizing 911 front-end and authentic 914/6 stub axles. Minor paint imperfections are depicted on the front hood, front valance, and rockers, along with two small chips in the windshield. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin was refurbished with Konig seats, a replacement dashboard pad, and new carpeting. Additional modifications include a Blaupunkt stereo system, MOMO steering wheel, 911 tachometer, and new oil pressure, oil temperature, and voltage gauges fitted with 914-specific rubber spacers for proper fitment. The seller notes that the side windows could use adjustment, and the rear brake light switch occasionally sticks. All gauges are reported to be in proper working order.
The 3.2-liter flat-six engine was sourced from a 1984 Porsche 911 with approximately 80k miles and fitted with a Steve Wong performance chip. A Rich Johnson engine mount kit was welded to the firewall, with the 914 mount points ground for additional clearance. Power is sent to the rear wheels through the original 5-speed manual transmission, and the donor car's 915 transmission will accompany the sale. The car features a complete Carrera front suspension with brakes, rebuilt rear brakes with caliper spacers to accommodate vented discs, and front and rear sway bars. All rubber seals have been replaced, and the seller has maintained the car using only Mobil synthetic oil. The seller recommends installing an external oil cooler, as the engine oil temperature tends to rise during hard driving.
This sale will include a clean title, 914 and 911 owner’s manuals, and the following items:
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for looking at and considering my car. This was a labor of love and my 2nd Porsche 914 (I've owned additional 914's, 912, 928, and currently also own a 911). I wanted to make it my own. They handle great, but I just wanted more power and to keep it to its original Porsche roots, thus the 911 flat-six conversion. I finished this car in 2005 and engine conversion in 2010, and have been driving it in the summers since. It has always been garaged. I find now that I just don’t have the time to drive it anymore like it should be (maybe 100 miles a year), and would love to see it go to a new home that will enjoy the modifications I have done to it. This car is fast and loud, driving like its own railroad tracks. I want to pass it on to another enthusiast who will make it their own and drive it often.”

Thanks all for bidding. I’m here to answer any questions you may have.
@Silentsteve it isn’t cheap doing the upgrade. 3.2l engines go for about 20k, then you have to source engine mounts, headers (mine have heater boxes so you have heat), electrics (ecm/tach), update rear suspension for weight, I added a complete 811 Carrera front suspension, etc. not difficult as Porsche put a six in these. Just tedious. Adjusting valves takes some finagling to get the valve covers off. I cut out the old 4 motor mounts to make it easier. It will go to 240 if driven harder on a hot day.
Finding myself keep coming back. One of the nicest 914-6 upgrade I’ve seen! Normally I would prefer the earlier bumpers but modern looks with the silver. Not as many 3.2 transplant would that be cost, level of difficulty ? How is the maintainability ie valve adjustment etc? What’s the oil temp when driven hard? GLWA
Bid in the amount of $25,000
Definitely get a front mount, with a thermostat and use that opportunity to get rid of the BuBs haha
Bid in the amount of $9,146
@ASFSupra thanks!
@DrT I’ve seen them installed in three places. There are kits you can buy to put it in the factory GT position in front, saw a very clean install in the passenger side rear wheel well. Some have mounted it to the bottom of the rear trunk. You can see all three if you search in the 914 forum called 914world.com. Very knowledgeable members on that site.
The engine compartment looks pretty full; where would you mount a sizeable external oil cooler? Thanks, nice looking car.
Nice and clean car
