The pinnacle of Porsche’s 944 transaxle sports car series, the 944 Turbo was launched for the 1986 model year featuring an improved aerodynamic design, disc brakes borrowed from the 911, a reinforced gearbox, external oil coolers, stiffer suspension, and more. This 1988 example has been customized with an LS1 V8 engine, an LS6 intake, a Stage 1 dyno tune, "big red" front brakes, and several additional upgrades. Finished in black over a lightweight race-focused cabin this modified 944 track car is now being offered for auction by its owner of 21 years out of New York.
Compared to a standard Porsche 944, the Turbo models can be identified by their aerodynamically revised nose with integrated fog lights as well as a body-colored diffuser located beneath the rear bumper. This example comes finished in black and rides on aftermarket wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tires. Two additional sets of wheels with one set of slicks and one set of rain tires are said to accompany the sale. Typical indications of track usage are noted on the front end, and the hood has been equipped with cooling vents. The headlights have been removed, and additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin has been stripped and outfitted for motorsport including bucket seats, aluminum pedals and floorboards, a detachable aftermarket steering wheel, a rear-mounted fire extinguisher, and a half roll cage. Other details include a tan lower dashboard and matching door panels. The pillar gauges are reportedly inoperable.
The 2.5-liter inline-four has been swapped for a 5.7L GM LS1 V8 engine rated at 350 HP stock. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. This LS1 was rebuilt before the installation in 2018 and further upgraded with an LS6 intake, a Dyno Stage 1 tune, and an aftermarket clutch with an aluminum flywheel. Other upgrades include a Hydro boost braking system with ABS featuring "big red" brakes up front, Motion Control remote two-way adjustable suspension, steel control arms with spherical bearing adjustability and replaceable ball joints, aluminum caster blocks, 30 mm rear torsion bars, Elephant Racing poly bushing rear swing arms, and a short shifter. The seller notes the rear main seal will need attention soon as it is beginning to leak.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thanks for taking the time to look at this track car listing. I've owned the car for 21 years and bought it to use as a track car. It was a blast to drive with the turbo engine and even more fun with the LS1. The LS1 was installed in 2018. It is a well-sorted car with many upgrades. You could have loads of fun with this car! Happy bidding!”

Is a track car only. It needs to be trailered. The cage is only a half cage. I only used the car for DE events. I don't know what the cage is specified for.
Hello, could your 944 be driven legally in the street or does need to be transported by trailer?
Is the roll cage FIA approved?
Porsche 944s were great handling cars with decent brakes. Once the feeble 4 cylinder engine is replaced with an aluminum V8, they now have power and most of all, torque. The LS V8 is actually about 20 pounds lighter than the 2.5 Turbo engine so the great handling characteristics of this car are not affected. My LS swapped 944 is one of the best street and track cars I have ever owned. This conversion was done with all the right parts.
Yes the car has a title
Is there a title for the car?

In the time I've owned the car there is never been any major body work or any frame damage the car has not been in any accidents while in my possession. There is no heat shielding covering any damage. The engine was professionally rebuilt. One transmission has been professionally rebuilt. The other transmission is a original turbo LSD transmission. The engine is on solid mounts so there is some vibration but it is a track car. The transplant is excellent, the major transplant conversion kit came from Texas performance products.
All of the paint work looks like it is in need ....any major body work completed? Any frame damage? The use of heat shielding in the pictures is evident....any damage occurred? Was the engine /trans work completed professionally with any balance issues or transplant issues such as vibrations, etc.?
Thank you!
