A big thank you to all of the bidders, commenters, and the staff at PCarMarket. We had a number of firsts here; our first car listed with and sold on PCarMarket and our very first Tesla. Thanks to the thoughtfully set up platform, it was a seamless process and went as we had hoped it would.

We are in the final hour, if you are bidding, please do so in good time in advance of the two-minute reset mark. Stay away from 30 seconds or below bidding. This is not eBay. The system could have an overload glitch and not refresh to accept your bid. Please bid 2+ minutes and above, as well as refresh your browsers. I have seen bids and cars lost due to this.

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Makikini Thanks for your questions and helpful knowledge. The display currently shows a 24% charge which is an 87-mile range. Doing the math on a 100% charge yields a 362.5-mile range.

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

How many miles at what percentage of charge is it at right now. I can use that info to calculate the 100% full range. Thank you.

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@motoringinvestments You won't get to 100% with level 2 charger at the show. Only at Tesla Supercharger but we won't know for sure because 40 minutes is left on the auction. The reason I am asking because the car's manufactured date is October 2020.

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Makikini PCarMarket does not register consigned cars in their name. We are a DMV licensed and bonded full-service (classic cars) dealership (which I founded in 1985).

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Makikini I think it is better to go with the factory literature. We are charging now, and it is not even close to 55%. I will have a look though, to the best of my ability. Reason it is not charged higher at this moment, is that my 1929 carriage house at home does not have proper grounds on the outlets and Tess was smart enough to point that out to me. She's charging now in the showroom.

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

The title is still under the original seller's name and not Pcarmarket?

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@motoringinvestments you can switch from percentage view to miles left view. How many miles at what percentage? Maybe we can calculate it.

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@motoringinvestments 371 miles is what on paper from Tesla but over time the range goes down, it's even worst if it's 5 years old. So I can assume that you guys haven't charge it fully to get what the current full charge is in miles(range)?

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Makikini We currently have the charging system set to go to a 55% charge as I believe that gives the batteries the longest life during day-to-day use. If one was traveling cross-country, one can opt for a higher percentage including presumably, 100%.

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@Makikini Hi! @OptimizedDesConcepts did a wonderful job of spelling out both of these answers. If I read his post correctly, this car gets 371 miles on a full charge, however, please check the post and confirm by your own research to be satisfied with the accuracy.

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Sorry if I missed it, when you charged it to 100 percent as of today what is the total miles do you get?

  • Makikini (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Will FSD be transferred to the new owner and will your company guarantee it in writing?

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@mdhaval Accurate as I understand it, but only for the successful high bidder ;-) Everyone else can watch, learn and enjoy the process for free :-)

  • mdhaval (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@motoringinvestments Thanks Brian! Just to reconfirm the amount involved is Auction price + 5% pcarmarket fee +taxes & registration, correct? Being on this platform for first time, need to make sure costs involved.

There has been a lot of confusion about the Tesla FSD option and how it transfers when a vehicle is sold to a new owner, as well as, when a current Tesla owner gets a new Tesla vehicle. This was further compounded when Tesla removed the FSD software from vehicles Tesla transferred to dealers or ones Tesla took back as trade-ins and resold without FSD. Additionally, current Tesla owners lobbied for the FSD option to transfer with them to their next Tesla vehicle, avoiding the ever increasing cost of the option.

However, this has been resolved, at least for vehicles that are sold on the open market and not owned and sold/resold or auctioned by Tesla. FSD is treated like any other option purchased with a vehicle, either at time of delivery or after delivery of the vehicle, it transfers with the vehicle. From what we understand, Tesla is required change the specification of any vehicle that is reconfigured so that there is an updated build sheet available.

  • svamsikrishna (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

FSD transfer to the next owner is not guaranteed and can't be counted on. In the past, Tesla has removed this capability for third-party dealer/auction sales at the time of ownership transfer.

  • OptimizedDesConcepts 1 year, 9 monthsago

It looks like the Full Self Driving (FSD) Option was not ordered at the time the vehicle was built, but was purchased later as a software upgrade. All Tesla vehicles since mid-April 2019 have shipped with the current FSD hardware. Depending on when the upgrade was purchased the additional cost could be $10,000 to $15,000.
I have listed the timeline for FSD upgrade prices below.

    Date FSD Cost
    April 2019 $5,000
    May 2019 $6,000
    August 2019 $7,000
    July 2020 $8,000
    October 2020 $10,000
    January 2022 $12,000
    September 2022 $15,000

I am a Tesla enthusiast/owner and while I’m not currently in the market for a Model X, I thought it would be helpful to explain the unique position the 2021 Model X Long Range Plus holds in Tesla line of vehicles.

    1. The “Long Range Plus” version of the Model X was only made in model years 2020 and 2021, this was the period when Tesla was on the path to produce vehicles with ever increasing range. The 2020 has a EPA range of 351 miles and in 2021 the range increased to 371 miles (both with 20” wheels). A new Model X (non-Plaid) purchased today only has a range of 348 (EPA) to 351 (Tesla.com) miles. The 2021 Long Range Plus is the longest range Model X Tesla has produced to date.

    2. 2021 was the last year that Tesla produced Model X and Model S vehicles with standard round steering wheels and stalk controls on the steering column. 2022 models changed to a yoke steering wheel with capacitive touch buttons located around the thumb wheels for all the functions previously controlled by the stalks. In 2023 the round steering wheel was brought back as an option, but the touch buttons remain for turn signals, hi/low beam lights, gear selection, Autopilot controls, etc. It is possible that Elon Musk will relent, and allow conventional stalk controls again at some point, but at present the 2021 models are the last Model X and Model S vehicles available with both round steering wheels and stalk controls.

All that said, if I was in the market for a Tesla Model X new or used, the 2021 Long Range Plus would be the vehicle I would buy. The 20 extra miles of range doesn’t sound like much, but Tesla recommends the daily battery charge level be kept between 20% and 80%, yielding 223 miles of daily range and 297 miles of trip range (20% to 100%).. Second, the touch buttons in place of stalk controls are a non-starter for me.

@mdhaval Thanks and yeah I guess being used to the likes of Subaru Outback, and Audi mid- sized SUV (not the big 3 row but truly only mid-sized), I don't think that Tesla competes in that (very) large market segment. That is not to cast any negativity to this car being auctioned as it seems very nice. Just a overall statement that I have always thought about in terms of the Tesla lineup. But then again Musk is (in most ways) smarter than I will ever be.

  • mdhaval (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@larrygk True and I believe the warranty is sort of same from other EV manufacturers as well. Don't know if Tesla missed a market or not but they are sure playing a lot with pricing on all models. With series of EVs to be launched this year and next year, Tesla is testing the market by keep reducing its prices...

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

    @larrygk Thank you both @larrygk & @mdhaval!

  • larrygk (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@mdhaval This is why I asked in the first place. It can be confusing and yes I saw it as the same once I got onto the "interweb". Also should be printed in the Owners Manual which I assume comes with the car. Not just causally yapping here. I live in Carlsbad and have been considering EV in the mid sized SUV range. Maybe even this one. A huge market that Tesla sort of missed to a certain degree.

“Drive Unit*: 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Vehicle High Voltage Battery*: 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.”

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@larrygk Thanks for your Q, @larrygk . We will have to research that. (But, I'm guessing anyone can search that on the internet and get an accurate answer.)

  • larrygk (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

  • IvorPeter 1 year, 9 monthsago

Well, judging from all the photos and videos, it looks essentially brand new. But, what if I buy it and ship it across the country and it breaks?

  • motoringinvestments (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

Hello everyone. My name is Brian. I’ve been a car-guy and motorhead practically since I can remember. My father, of the World War II era, learned automotive technology in the Marine Corps & vocational schools & taught me all about cars and how to turn wrenches. I went full-time into the automotive business in 1978 and started the company I run today in 1985.

I just wanted to give a bit of my automotive background, so those who ask questions know they can be confident of the answers. Having been involved with cars for so long, I probably know people who know the answer if I don't know it myself.

So, welcome to this Tesla X auction. I hope you will ask relevant questions, so you have the answers you need to make an informed decision. Good luck to everyone!
