In 2017, Ferrari unveiled the 488 Challenge as the sixth model designed for participation in their single-make racing series. This particular 488 Challenge has been fitted with an upgraded Evo package under previous ownership and actively competed in the Ferrari Challenge North America series in addition to various club racing events. Refinished in a metallic gray shade with a racing livery, it is powered by a replacement twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 paired with a seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission featuring an electronic limited-slip differential. The race-oriented interior boasts a roll cage, a Formula 1-style steering wheel, and Sabelt fixed-back carbon-fiber race seats accompanied by red multi-point harnesses. Additional features include 19” Motegi Racing center-lock wheels, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, adjustable aerodynamic bodywork, a lightweight exhaust system, a fire-suppression system, air conditioning, and a rearview camera. Showing approximately 19k kilometers (12k miles) on the odometer, this 488 Challenge is now offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
This 488 Challenge was factory-finished in red and has since undergone a refinish in its current metallic gray shade. This example subsequently received upgraded Evo bodywork under previous ownership, adorned with a black and blue vinyl racing livery, sponsor logos, and number decals. It rides on center-lock 19” Motegi Racing wheels with 275/675 front and 315/705 rear Pirelli P Zero rain tires. The seller reports signs of road wear on the front trunk lid and scratches in the vinyl around the body. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cockpit encompasses a robust safety setup with a roll cage featuring OMP safety nets. Equipment includes two Sabelt fixed-back carbon-fiber race seats secured by red multi-point harnesses, an integrated rearview camera with a dash-mounted display, and a Formula 1-style steering wheel redesigned for the Evo to incorporate LED shift lights and various driver controls, complementing those on the Challenge-specific center stack. Instrumentation comprises a configurable digital screen, and carbon-fiber ducting occupies part of the front trunk. Interior enhancements include an Alcantara-lined dash, a carbon-fiber center console, air conditioning, and a fire suppression system.
The replacement engine, a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter Tipo F154 V8, is a modified iteration of the powerplant found in the contemporary 488 GTB. Installed in 2020 by HP-Tech of Hallandale Beach, Florida, this Challenge car features a lightened exhaust system and specially tuned engine management software. The engine is configured for a factory-rated output of 661 HP and 560 lb.-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a short-ratio seven-speed F1 dual-clutch transmission, reportedly replaced during the engine installation, which also incorporates Challenge-specific shift programming and an electronic limited-slip differential. Braking power comes from carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes that feature six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers. The anti-lock braking and traction-control systems were reworked for the Evo and can be adjusted via dials on the dash and steering wheel.
This vehicle is offered with a bill of sale.
