Introduced at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the original GT4 model is a high-performance, track-oriented version of the 981 Cayman featuring a 6-speed manual transmission and a 3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from the contemporary Carrera S. This 2016 example is finished in GT Silver Metallic over a Black leather and Alcantara interior with Platinum Grey stitching. It comes generously equipped from the factory with optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB), bi-xenon headlights in black with PDLS+, Full Bucket Seats, the Carbon Interior Package, additional leather and Alcantara upholstery, illuminated carbon fiber door sills, Silver Grey seatbelts, 2-zone automatic climate control, the Sport Chrono Package, Light Design Package, and more. Showing less than 10k miles on the odometer, this well-optioned Cayman GT4 is now being offered for auction out of California by its original owner.
The GT4 features aerodynamically optimized bodywork compared to a standard Cayman, including a front spoiler, large front air intakes, side air scoops, a fixed rear wing, and a rear diffuser with integrated dual exhaust tips. Finished in GT Silver Metallic, this example showcases optional bi-xenon headlights in black with Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+), painted headlamp cleaner covers, auto-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, yellow ceramic brake calipers, and wing supports in black. The car rides on 20” GT4 light alloy wheels finished in Satin Platinum with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires from 2023. The seller indicates there has been no track use, and new clear paint protection was recently installed on the front bumper, hood, fenders, rockers, side air scoops, mirror covers, and doors. Clear European-style side markers have been installed, and the original amber markers are included in the sale. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin features optional Full Bucket Seats in Black leather and Alcantara upholstery with deviated Platinum Grey stitching. The matching dashboard and door panels are complemented by optional carbon fiber trim pieces along with the center console and illuminated door sill guards. Other options include seatbelts in Silvery Grey, a steering column casing in leather, sun visors in Alcantara, a storage compartment lid in Alcantara with an embossed Porsche crest, the Light Design Package, Sport Chrono Package, 2-zone automatic climate control, and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation. The seller notes that custom mats are installed throughout the car, including a custom silhouette mat, designed and signed by internationally known artist Keith Collins. All original mats have been retained in brand-new condition and are included with the car.
Rated at 385 HP and 309 lb-ft of torque, the GT4’s Carrera S-derived 3.8-liter flat-six engine features VarioCam Plus variable valve timing, integrated dry sump lubrication, and a sport exhaust system. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Performance features include Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), variable-ratio electric power steering, optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), and a 64-liter fuel tank. The seller states that the car has been meticulously maintained, including an annual service in July 2025, and the transmission was previously replaced by Porsche under a factory recall.
This sale will include a window sticker, owner's manuals, original sales literature, a toolkit, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: "This is a completely original 2016 981 GT4 in as-new condition. I am the original owner. I ordered the car and personally and thoughtfully hand-selected every single option, including full carbon fiber racing seats and carbon ceramic brakes. No other person has ever driven this car, except for Porsche factory techs and personnel while being serviced. I am insanely anal about my cars. I wish I could find people like me to buy cars from. This car, like all my others, is perfect. While the annual service wasn't due for another month, I spent over $800 getting it performed prior to the sale and replaced the front hood shocks that were working, but not perfect, as well as an undercarriage plastic part that had a small scratch, all so the car was perfect for the sale. When the car was new, I added very expensive custom mats, including one of a GT4 silhouette, all signed by internationally known artist Keith Collins. The car has been meticulously serviced and maintained. I had paint protection film (PPF) installed on the entire front of the car before it was delivered and had it recently replaced. I replaced the factory Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires last year. The car still smells new, of alcantara and leather. I love this car as though it were one of my children and am only selling it because my wife is forcing me to reduce my collection. Please do not buy this car."

Thanks again to all, including everyone at Pcarmarket. They unfortunately got my car sold and were great every step of the way. Can recommend them highly enough.
Thank you to FastCarFan for the wonderful auction prep and support, but mostly for taking such wonderful care of this special car. I hope to keep up the tradition.
What a great car! Congrats to the seller and purchaser.

@scuderia Yes, I was wrong. You are correct. The short shifter was standard. Thanks for helping me get this right.

@fastCarFan pretty sure the GT4 came standard with a short shifter compared to standard 981.

@carphreak Shifting is extremely smooth, short and fun at all temperatures. One of the options was a short shifter.
Does the car shift smoothly when cold? Any grinding or notchiness?

@BPDCPA That 06 sounds fun too, but for me there's been nothing like that 396 big block with the Muncie M22. It's a super clean original black rs/ss and gets more attention than any of my cars. No one gives a second look to a new V12 Ferrari, but I can't get away from a gas station fill up in my 68 Camaro. Your 06 has the great advantage of being relatively modern, and probably has a/c too. My 68 is practically undrivable in the summer. Thanks for your comments.
@FastCarFan @FastCarFan. Agreed about the cars of the late 60's, especially from GM (personal taste). When I sold mine in 1973, I never realized how rare my L78/M22 RS/SS was until I started looking to recapture my foolish youth. Fortunately, I found a 2006 C6 Z06 with only 3K miles two years ago which satisfies the itch but in a much more modern car.
@550Spyderman Thank you for the great comment. Obviously I agree. These rare one year only cars are fabulous drivers and will continue to go up in value. I can honestly attest that this particular one is as close to a custom ordered showroom new car that you'll ever find. And I would know given that I'm the only one that has ever owned or driven it other than people I know well at my local Porsche dealer.
The market is beginning to realize just how rare the original and one model year only 981 GT4 is in comparison to the 718 version, in production since 2020. Porsche does not publish production numbers, but estimates for the 981 run from less than 2000 to no more than 2500 made, and I have seen it print that only about 1000 are estimated to have come into the US. I have also read that there are less than 600 registered in the European union. In any case, it’s not only a rare car, it’s a great drivers car, more raw, loud and analog than the 718. Even if naturally aspirated flat six.internal combustion Cayman production was not coming to an end there would be nowhere for the 981 GT4 values to go but up. Today’s prices will look like a bargain in just a few years.

@BPDCPA Thanks for the great comments. These GT4s are so much fun to drive. I will never sell the Camaro. Nothing like the big block late 60s muscle cars with 4 speeds.
Bid in the amount of $80,000
bahaha i love this ad it sounds like i wrote it. i am local and if I weren’t abroad right now I’d come have a look. hopefully this goes to offers. i wish the auction was 4 days longer.

Great build but I'm biased as have a very similar GT4 but in Rhodium w/o the PCCB's. Tracked it @ WGI only 4 times before Covid & just decided that at age 72 with 15 years of DE's, enough was enough. GT4's are just fantastic, especially on the track. With the low mileage it's basically a new car & hopefully you get a price that reflects a FMV. But what really caught my eye was your Camaro RS/SS as identical to the BRG '68 I had back in the early 70's. If you ever decide to sell that....
Bid in the amount of $73,981
It does have a reserve so it confirms seller’s statement of please don’t buy it lol
@SSTwin Thank you. I love that blue as well.
“Please do not buy this car.” Greatest line in a car ad ever.
Wow, quite a sad story for the 2 of you. Fortunately, on the spouse front, my co-pilot of many years loves our Sapphire Blue 981 GT4, and my "old" physique still manages and enjoys the LWBS's. I'd be all over yours otw. Wish you good luck and, more importantly, good health.
@Nein9 Hi. Very small collection, but my wife hates it with a passion. A few Ferraris & Porsches. A perfect 3K mi CGT. A great original condition black 68 RS/SS Camaro with the matching 396 L78 engine and M22 transmission. A new red/ice Maserati MC20 Cielo and a new Triumph Rocket 3 GT. I hate to be giving up the GT4. I had back surgery and just can't get in and out of the highly bucketed racing seats. They are super comfortable once you get in and they do their job holding you. It is so much fun to drive and gets lots of attention. It's a mid-engine canyon car that takes corners like it's on rails. I spent a lot of time picking out all the options with my kids who each got to pick a single option, and it came out perfect. It really is as-new, same as when it was delivered. Paid 10 over sticker to get the order. So sad.

Hi,
I may have missed it but has a recent DME report been done?
@phefner the transmission replacement recall service order is there dated 5/17/19.
@phefner yes, the transmission was replaced as part of the recall. For some reason I don't have the service invoice. I will add it today. Thanks for your interest.
What a gorgeous machine .. just perfection in every way. Question I have while I work on getting a bid in would be was this car part of the series that qualified for the transmission recall, if so, was it done? I didn't see the work in any of the orders you posted.
