A high-performance track-oriented version of the 981-generation Porsche Cayman, the original GT4 was introduced for the 2016 model year featuring a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter engine borrowed from the Carrera S along with a fixed rear wing, lowered PASM sport suspension, GT3-derived brakes, a 6-speed manual transmission, and a limited-slip differential with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV). This example is finished in GT Silver Metallic over Black leather upholstery with Guards Red stitching, optional carbon fiber lightweight bucket seats, and more. Showing approximately 21k miles on the odometer, this GT4 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

Differentiating from the standard 981 Cayman, the GT4 features a vented front bumper with larger radiator grilles and a lower lip spoiler, as well as side air intake scoops, a rear diffuser, and a fixed rear wing. This example is finished in GT Silver Metallic with optional black wing supports and custom grey racing stripe decals. It rides on 20” GT4 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin presents Black leather upholstery with Guards Red stitching, brushed aluminum trim, and optional carbon fiber lightweight bucket seats. Other options include the steering wheel rim and gear shift lever in Black smooth leather.  Additionally, a roll cage and six-point racing harnesses have been fitted.

The first-generation Cayman GT4 carries a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from the Carrera S, producing as much as 385 HP and 310 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), and active transmission mounts. The seller adds that the vehicle has received new brake pads along with fresh fluids since their acquisition in April 2023. The CARFAX report shows a total of 16 service history entries.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and a car cover.

The seller would like you to know: “This is an absolutely beautiful car. It offers an immersive and fun drive on the street or track. No expense has been spared in the maintenance of this vehicle. Only the best quality oil, brake pads, transmission fluids, etc. were used.”

@MedicGT4 I did not say the transmission was definitely replaced. I am just answering questions as honestly as possible based on information I am given from the “experts.”

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

ECU would not be changed even if trans was replaced.

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

@gtsilver. Transmission being replaced is entirely new news. There's no record of that and given the early build date a trans replacement would not have been necessary due to the 3rd gear failure that later builds incurred. So if the trans was replaced it was not a warranty recall but some other reason.

  • gtsilver (seller) 3 days, 7 hoursago

@KamilPL yes front plate is drilled into front bumper, was like that when I bought it.
The difference between the hours (I’m told) is most likely that when the transmission was previously replaced they replaced the ECU as well. However, I am not aware of when this may have happened. All I can say for certain is that it has been driving fine since I bought it in April 2023 and if there was an issue it have definitely presented itself by now and it hasn’t

  • gtsilver (seller) 3 days, 7 hoursago

@kylerwatkins12 I was told it’s just the sensor.
Fault PDM- indicates right side dynamic mount fault. This was an error but not active on scan……is what I was told by the tech

  • KamilPL (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

Hello seller. Apologies if I missed this, but is the front plate bracket drilled into the bumper? Secondly, given the DME hours discrepancy, are you aware of this GT4 receiving a replacement motor at some point of its life? Thanks.

  • kylerwatkins12 (registered bidder) 3 days, 7 hoursago

Can you confirm if the tech stated you can replace just the sensor for the PADM? It looks like you need to replace the entire unit.

"It drives absolutely perfect, no issues, mechanical or otherwise."

"there is a PADM alert that comes on but it is clearly still safe to drive...This alert relates to a dynamic engine mount sensor and is very common in these cars. Not a cause for concern, just needs to be replaced. Estimated cost approx 2.5k-3k."

    Wait....what?

  • gtsilver (seller) 3 days, 12 hoursago

More videos just uploaded from this morning. What a fun car to drive!
You will see in one of the videos that there are no engine warning lights when ignition is turned.
You will also notice that there is a PADM alert that comes on but it is clearly still safe to drive, as you can see in the other videos.
This alert relates to a dynamic engine mount sensor and is very common in these cars. Not a cause for concern, just needs to be replaced. Estimated cost approx 2.5k-3k.
I will definitely take this into account when considering any and all reasonable bids.

  • gtsilver (seller) 4 days, 4 hoursago

@MedicGT4 agreed. As the records show, I bought this car in April 2023. I have tracked it twice and enjoyed driving it locally and on the highway. It drives absolutely perfect, no issues, mechanical or otherwise.

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 4 days, 4 hoursago

One thought about the difference in operating hours on the DME. If the ECU was replaced it is possible that over revs that occurred on the first engine are no longer reported on the DME, however some consolation can be had about the engine since the current ECU has been in place for over 300 hrs the previous overrevs, if any, are a lot less troubling. Most of the shops I talk to say as long as 100 hrs have passed and the engine is fine, Its going to continue to be fine.

Are you able to get the pics/video of the front splitter, especially showing the the vertical elements of the front bumper between center and left/right radiator as well as a video of the car starting and showing the dash to verify no check engine lights?

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 5 hoursago

@drillfillbill current bids are more than lien amount.
I have not noticed any bumps, clunks or any other noises and have not noticed anything at all that would be cause for concern.

  • drillfillbill (registered bidder) 5 days, 5 hoursago

Thanks for the DME and Pictures of the hood. Looking forward to the pics or video of the lower splitter showing the area between the radiators. Two other quick questions. 1- Are the current bids close or more than the lien amount? I would assume Pcarmarket would not set reserve lower than the lien amount, would not want to buy a car with a lien higher than the sale price. 2- I see some oil on the bottom of the rear shocks. Apparently it is quite common for the OEM GT4 shock seals to fail and start leaking oil at about 20k miles, especially when seeing track time so a set of shocks may need to be in the budget. Have you noticed any noises, clunks, bumps, stutters, or any other concerns when the suspension compresses indicating wear of any other suspension components? The front shocks do not appear to be leaking oil and seem to be in good shape.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 5 hoursago

@mdirads happy to pass your questions onto the company that completed the DME. I’ll reply again once I get an answer.

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 5 days, 5 hoursago

This does not make sense to me, but perhaps I am confused.

On pic 131, it clearly states “Operating hours counter” and the value is 918 h.
On pic 131, line A155 states “Total operating hours for this control unit” and the value is 642.33 h.
How is this discrepancy explained? The difference between these two values is 275.67 h.

Furthermore, on pic 131, line A160 states “Operating time since fault memory erased” and the value is 239.32. What is the purpose of this entry?

It seems to me that the fault memory was erased 36.35 h after the control unit was installed.

I don’t know how to interpret this information. Please help.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 6 hoursago

@MedicGT4 the full DME is 83 pages and too big to upload so the company who did the DME sent me a summary of the report. I’ve no problem whatsoever sending the full report if anyone wants it. Just let me know.
They also there were no concerns coming from the report.

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 5 days, 6 hoursago

Is there a reason you didn’t post the whole DME report. Also I don’t understand the difference between total operating hours ~925 and hours on this control unit ~625. Was the ECU replaced. If so the over rev info is missing for 300 hours of operating time on this engine.

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 5 days, 6 hoursago

Based on the VIN this was one of the first 10 GT4 s in the US. As such it would not have had the 3rd gear issue that required the trans recall. I own a similar early build.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 8 hoursago

    DME report now uploaded/in pictures.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 8 hoursago

Oil change, brake fluid flush, coolant flush (and top up), new battery, all done Sept 2024 along with a full vehicle inspection. No transmission issues or any other issues found.

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 5 days, 9 hoursago

no open recalls on this car according to Porsche website, so perhaps the transmission issue was not relevant to this car. Is anyone able to confirm?

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 5 days, 9 hoursago

I believe there is a slight error in the Carfax. The order on the RI purchase and the auction are reversed. It was probably the RI dealer that sold it at auction instead of keeping it in inventory and selling as a CPO. It may have eebn as simple as they were able to get a higher price at auction than selling it and incurring the CPO of continuing the CPO. Or they were unable to CPO it due to the DME. The OR dealer acquired it at auction.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 11 hoursago

@mdirads it is great on the track but also drives great as a daily driver or just for Sunday drives.

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 5 days, 11 hoursago

@MedicGT4 I agree with your sentiments . The first owner unloaded this car in the Fall of 2019, and it was sold as a CPO example in November 2019. The second owner unloaded it in January 2023 at auction when it was apparently acquired by a Porsche dealer in RI, but was acquired soon thereafter by an independent dealership in OR. Curious as to why the RI Porsche dealership could not CPO it. The forthcoming DME should provide some insight. This could be an ideal track toy, just beware of is history before moving forward.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 11 hoursago

More pictures of the hood getting uploaded now. No clear film edge at crest because the crest was removed and the Clear film is under it

  • Viporghini (registered bidder) 5 days, 12 hoursago

Following along for the show. I don't think this car is for everyone, but everyone wants a deal. Interesting to see PPF on the hood edges, I guess the emblem was removed.

  • gtsilver (seller) 5 days, 13 hoursago

    @drillfillbill sure, will do

  • drillfillbill (registered bidder) 5 days, 13 hoursago

@gtsilver Thank you for getting the video of the front bumper and hood. While you are at it can you get a video of the car starting while cold and running for about 30 seconds while during the same video show the dash for any check lights while the car is running? Thanks again.

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 5 days, 13 hoursago

@mdirads @drillfillbill While I agree with your constructive comments and to be transparent I am a very likely bidder on this car. However, I don't think a PPI is going to address some of the real question marks with this car. The extent of PPF on the car is going to make paint meter readings difficult to trust. Harnesses with a date code of 2025 means they were installed sometime 2019-2020. The windshield does not have PPF but does not show the typical signs of heavy track time so it could have been replaced. It's likely that the previous owner was a more serious track enthusiast than the current owner. Track time is not a problem for me. It's a value adjuster. A couple of other value considerations. The market has softened a bit on these cars. A 12k mile well prepped, beautifully photographed example sold for 92k ex fees by a very well regarded dealer on the other website. This car was a CPO car owned by a Porsche dealer, who for some reason, did not resell as a CPO but instead sold it at auction to a dealer on the West Coast that at best can be described as having a non-stellar reputation. As long as sellers expectations are in the right place this car could sell.

  • gtsilver (seller) 6 days, 1 hourago

@mdirads sure, no problem, I’ll work on getting a PPI

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 6 days, 1 hourago

If the defects (for lack of a better term) are indeed on the PPF, it’s a shame this car wasn’t properly prepped and presented for auction. If the issues are cleared by “wiping away the dirt”, why wasn’t this done before the listing was assembled? Most of us are not able to view the car in person, and therefore rely on the seller’s presentation. Are you able to arrange for a PPI in addition to the DME report? A PPI from a reputable firm would be beneficial to those of us who are actively monitoring this auction and who are not able to personally review this automobile. I have sold several cars through Carsandbids and other online formats, and have always made certain to have the car properly prepped and presented. A properly prepped car bestows confidence upon your audience and will always bring in more bids. If you expect top dollar for your asset, you need to put in a bit of work.

  • gtsilver (seller) 6 days, 2 hoursago

I have just submitted more new photos of the undercarriage, suspension etc so now just waiting on the auction website to upload these to the live listing.

  • gtsilver (seller) 6 days, 2 hoursago

@drillfillbill no problem, I will take another video as soon as possible and get it posted to the listing.
I can absolutely confirm there is no damage or cracking on the front bumper or anywhere else but I fully understand and respect your concerns, given the type of sale.

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 6 days, 2 hoursago

    @drillfillbill. Nice root canal.

  • drillfillbill (registered bidder) 6 days, 2 hoursago

Thank you for the pictures but that is not what I am trying to see. If you zoom in on pic 4 you will see lots of black marks on the hood, front bumper, front splitter, and two larger areas of concern on the vertical elements of the front bumper between the left, center, and right radiators. These areas may just be bugs or black rubber tire marks from the track limited to the PPF but they could also be rock chips and even cracking of the front bumper. I think it would be best to film a video showing the entire front bumper, front splitter, and hood. The video should be closer and slower than the previous video posted. I am trying to figure out the extent of the damage. I know you say the paint is perfect and the marks are just in the PPF but I need proof of this considering the cost of the car and the fact this is an online auction with no knowledge of who the seller is.

  • gtsilver (seller) 6 days, 11 hoursago

New photos now uploaded showing the front PPF. Also for photo 107, I wiped part of the dirt and you can clearly see a clean patch in the photo, proving that all dust/dirt simply wipes off and is not damage to the paint.
The car is currently (Tuesday morning, Dec 10th) in for the DME report and I have requested some pictures of the under carriage when the car is up on the lift. I will post these photos along with the report once I have it.

  • cfield 6 days, 11 hoursago

Bid in the amount of $55,000

  • gtsilver (seller) 6 days, 13 hoursago

@mdirads like I said, there is front PPF and ceramic coating on car. I have posted pictures clearly showing the presence of the front PPF, like I stated from the start. The ceramic is pretty obvious as well, once you pour water on the car!

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 6 days, 13 hoursago

@gtsilver : you “were told” there was PPF and ceramic coating applied when you purchased the car. Is the PPF still on the car at this time? You don’t need to be an expert to identify the presence of PPF--either it is present or it is not. You are trying to sell a car with an average market value of $90,000.00, so basic information such as the presence of PPF is expected.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 weekago

@drillfillbill no problem, I will work on getting those new photos as soon as possible

  • drillfillbill 1 weekago

Bid in the amount of $50,250

  • drillfillbill (registered bidder) 1 weekago

I would like to see close up pics of the hood, front bumper, rear bumper immediately behind the rear wheels showing any and all imperfections. There are clearly imperfections shown in the pictures provided. I would like to see close ups of these imperfections to better understand the extent of them. I would would also like to see pictures of the undercarriage, including suspension components and rear subframe.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 weekago

@drillfillbill there was zero water damage during Hurricanes Milton and Helene. I moved all of our vehicles off site during the storms. That turned out not to be necessary but was done as precaution anyway.
There is no smell of smoke/cigarettes, must or anything else in the vehicle. I do not smoke nor allow people smoke in any of my cars. Furthermore, I have kept the Porsche in a private air conditioned garage.
I was told when I purchased the vehicle that there was front PPF and ceramic coating.
See my other comment in relation to the reports.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 weekago

@mdirads I am nothing if not honest so no issue there. However, I am not a car expert or an expert in car paint and/or PPF. If you’d like to tell me exactly what new photos you would like, let me know and I will send them to you.
The DME is confirmed for tomorrow morning, given that it was only requested over the weekend, that’s a soonest I could get a confirmation. Furthermore, I am getting another shop to look at this vehicle, a Porsche specialist called AutoQuest in Fort Myers, Florida.

  • drillfillbill (registered bidder) 1 weekago

1-I agree with the last comment. Pic 38 clearly shows imperfections on the hood when you zoom in. Pic 34 does not show the edge of the PPF around the Porsche crest as one would expect a PPF covered hood to show. Picture 36 clearly shows the edge of the PPF at the edge of the quarter panel and bumper. One would expect to see this on pictures of the hood and especially the close up of the crest.
2-Does the car have any water or flood damage? Where was the car during the Milton and Helene flooding? The pictures show the car at a residence near a waterway.
3-Can we see up close pictures of black marks on the PPF and undercarriage pictures including the suspension components? These should be very easy to get considering you own shop and lift.
4-Any smell of mustiness/cigarettes/etc. in the interior?
Myself and others are interested in the car but have questions that need answering.

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 1 weekago

@gtsilver I hate to be a nuisance, but your comment about “perfect” PPF cannot be true. On 12/7, I asked about paint chips, and you replied that the chips are in the PPF and the paint is “perfect”. So, both the paint and the PPF cannot be perfect, as the photos clearly show some type of issue. Which is it? An honest answer is both expected and appreciated.

Also, still waiting for the DME......

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 weekago

@drillfillbill hi, the front PPF is still on the car and in perfect condition. The two stripes are also still on the car in perfect condition. The stripes are only in the roof and rear, not front hood. As well as front PPF, the car has ceramic coating.

  • drillfillbill (registered bidder) 1 weekago

I am not seeing any signs of PPF on the front hood, has the hood PPF been removed? Are the racing stripes on the roof and trunk vinyl decals? I am assuming there was PPF on the hood, it was removed and during removal the racing stripes came with it. Do you know if this was the case? Very nice GT4 driven as it was meant to be driven. I will follow closely. Thanks.

No definitive #’s from Porsche but the first and one year only 981 GT4 production estimates run from less than 2,000 to 2,400 max built, with approximately 1,000 of them made for and sold in the U.S. I recently read less than 600 are registered in EU countries. Far , far more 718 GT4’s have been made since 2020. The day will come when the rarity and unique qualities of the original 981 GT4 will be recognized.

  • itsmegary 1 week, 2 daysago

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@mdirads just rubber and slight “chips” in the PPF actual paint coat is perfect

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

So are the finish defects on/in the PPF or under the PPF? Asking because I am not able to view the car in person. Thanks.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@mdirads there is front PPF and while car is ceramic coated. Yes I agree, these cars are built to be driven.

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

I assume there is no PPF on this car with the number of defects on the front bumper. On the rear quarter panels and rear bumper, is that rubber on the paint or chips? Clearly a driver’s car. PPI and DME will be worthwhile on this auction.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@kyjef oh boy, yes, I’m getting myself all mixed up now as well. Thanks for heads up. As you correctly say, it’s a 981.

  • kyjef (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Hi seller. Yep, I read all that but an hour before my comment you said “yes it’s a 718” and that’s why I posted. No worries. Glad we are on the same page. Cheers.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@kyjef please read previous comments and all of the listing. It says 981 further down the ad and yes there is a typo on the header which I have notified the auction site about. Thanks

  • kyjef (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Seller, if your car is a 2016, then the internal designation is 981. It is not a 718. 718 was part of the model name of Caymans that began in 2017, which became the 982 internal designation. But there was no 718 GT4 (982) until a couple years after that.
    Good luck with sale!

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@mdirads sure, I’ll certainly ask the auction site about this

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@Periokid yes it’s a 718. Slight typo in description which I’m sure the auction will correct. It says 981 in the text further down

    Agree with Stdenis25, 981 GT4, not 718 GT4.

Is there any chance you could arrange for a PPI through pcarmarket before auction closes?

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@MedicGT4 absolutely, I’ll send some track video to be uploaded to the listing

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@MedicGT4 I only tracked the car twice, March and September of this year. Not sure of previous owner activity. Date on harnesses is 2025.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@mdirads no, the roll cage and harnesses were already installed when I bought the car.

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Did you install the harness bar?
Do you have any service receipts available to upload for our review?

  • MedicGT4 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

What is the date code on the harnesses. I like that the seller is upfront about the car having been tracked. How many track events has the car seen. Since there's a go pro mount on the dash how about sharing some of the track video. Are there any service records besides the entries on the car fax DME is going to be important for this car.

  • gtsilver (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@mdirads absolutely yes, I will work on getting a DME report this coming week

  • mdirads (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Are you able to provide a DME report?

  • Stdenis25 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

    @pcarmarket title is incorrect. Not a 718. @pcar
