The lightest model in Porsche’s lineup upon its debut, the 981 Boxster Spyder shares many components with the high-performance GT4 and features signature double-hump fairings as well as a ducktail spoiler. Boasting a 6-speed manual transmission, this 2016 example comes finished in Carrara White Metallic over Black leather and Alcantara upholstery with deviated stitching. It was also configured with dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats, Infotainment Package with BOSE® Surround Sound, Light Design Package, Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus, and more. Showing less than 22k miles on the odometer, this one-owner Spyder is now being offered for auction by the selling dealer out of Virginia.
This 981 comes finished in Carrara White Metallic and shares its front and rear fascias with the Cayman GT4. The Spyder also includes lightweight aluminum doors, a ducktail rear spoiler, and an aluminum rear boot lid that conceals the manually operated canvas soft top. The Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+) was additionally opted for, and the car rides on factory 20” Boxster Spyder Design wheels with optional colored Porsche center crests. The seller states a minor accident under previous ownership when the front bumper contacted an object at approximately 10 mph, as reflected on the CARFAX report. An OEM front bumper with paint protection film was subsequently installed, and one peeling area of the film is noted. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin presents Black leather and Alcantara upholstery with Silver deviated stitching. Other options include seatbelts in Guards Red, door-pull loops in Silver, the Light Design Package, and a wind deflector. Optional amenities include two-sone automatic climate control, heated seats, the Infotainment Package with the BOSE® Surround Sound System, Bluetooth connectivity, automatically dimming mirrors with an integrated rain sensor, and a storage net in the passenger footwell.
The Boxster Spyder is powered by a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine shared with the Carrera S. Sending power to the rear wheels by way of a standard 6-speed manual gearbox, acceleration from 0-60 MPH can be achieved in as little as 4.3 seconds. Stopping power is provided by six-piston front and four-piston rear mono-block calipers, while steering is handled by an upgraded steering rack from the 911 Turbo. The CARFAX report shows a total of four service history entries.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a car cover, a battery charger, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “We are open to any and all pre-purchase inspections at the cost of the buyer. We apologize for the lack of information and documentation, and we are happy to answer any and all questions to the best of our ability.”

@DDMF17 XPEL covers front end, stops at the doors!
Is XPEL applied everywhere?
@mmac1 Durametric software can easily pull rev data
@List-Renn original owner completed all service outside the first service (which was included with the purchase of the car), the original owner said he changed oil every 3k miles, both of which were done summer of 2023.
@DDMF17 Seat bolster photos submitted, hopefully PCAR gets them up soon!
Do you have any maintenance records? Oil changes and brake flushes? Should be 7 oil and 3 or 4 brake. Minimum schedule by time, not mileage. Thanks.
Bid in the amount of $58,500
@DDMF17 I will have additional photos of the seat bolster added first thing tomorrow morning!
Nice to see 'damage' photos. Proves that minor really was minor. GLWA!
are you able to add any additional photos of the wear on the seat bolsters? Looks like a good bit on the driver's side
Regarding DME report, I have called 20+ local shops, none of which can get the reading— local Porsche dealer said they might be able to squeeze me in Monday morning prior to auction end to get the DME reading— fingers crossed.
@wsc300 this was not a typical “PPI” this was just my shop opening the service ticket to let me know what we needed to pass VA inspection (only thing they noted it would need was potentially 2 new rear tires), which we got done a couple weeks ago, as you can see it subsequently passed VA inspection. This was not a typical PPI with any sort of report or write up, other than the recommended tires and oil change.
@mmac1 - thanks for the video!
Posting the 10/7/2024 PPI report listed on the Carfax would certainly be helpful to those of us interested in purchasing this car. Thanks.
@gbirge thanks! please see newly uploaded video, no gaps or welds, just dirt/grime.
Nice spyder! as mentioned, on pics 71 & 74 it does look like maybe the exhaust joints connecting from the mufflers have gaps showing under the mounting bands on both sides...? but could be just dark welds or something else...? Please clarify - thanks!
@mmac1 awesome, thanks a ton (on both fronts). Is the PPI something you could post as well?
@DDMF17 Had an employee on site take a look before I can get there to get updated photos tomorrow, but there is NO cracking, I’m told it is dust/dirt, will update with photo / video tomorrow
@650max hope to get the dme report tomorrow.
We have both keys. 2 brand new tires in back, can get date codes on front tomorrow as well.
@DDMF17 this PPI was our initial inspection after purchasing the vehicle, not a potential buyer that backed out after having PPI done.
I will be back in the office tomorrow and hope to get the DME report from a shop with the proper scanner
Also, Pic 71/74, can you provide a closeup of the joint near the exhaust clamp between the mufflers and the tailpipe? I could be wrong, but it almost looks like there's some cracking around where the clamp meets the exhaust
any idea what came up during the PPI done on 10/7 that led to the buyer not following through with the purchase?
Are their two keys? Are the tires original? If not how old? Is the DME report coming?
Any Porsche dealer/independent shop would be able to pull the report in about 5 minutes. They might charge a nominal amount but I guarantee you would get that on the back end when the car sells.

There are no rev limiters in Porsche manual trans cars - it is usually quite easy to get a DME report done at a dealer.
I believe these have rev limiters. I have an R8 manual, I hit it in first gear regularly and will continue to do so.

@Marketwatcher Sadly we were unable to get a DME report with our diagnostic tools. That said we are confident in the condition of the vehicle, original owner was in his 70's with a collection of many additional porsches.
@jerry991 I will send the carfax and a photo of the damage from the original owner to pcar to add to the listing!
The damage was minor (hit a critter in his driveway at 10 mph) and resulted in the original bumper being replaced with an OEM bumper, and wrapped in xpel.
A ‘16 Spyder was perhaps the most fun Porsche I’ve ever owned. Miss it!
Could you post a copy of the DME over-rev report?
i sold my ‘16 a month opting to keep a ‘22 4.0…. but having owned both i can attest that the 2016 is a special car w nearly the same torque. Buyer will love it!
Could you post the CARFAX and any information about the accident. Do you have a list of the optional equipment on the car?
