The second-generation Cayman (981) was unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show with updated design language, a longer wheelbase, a widened front track, and an interior derived from the contemporary Porsche 911 along with revised engine and transmission specifications. Finished in Rhodium Silver Metallic over Platinum Grey interior, this 6-speed 2015 example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California showing under 8k miles on the odometer.

This 981 is finished in Rhodium Silver Metallic. Design elements include front fog lights, large side air intakes, a speed-activated rear spoiler, clear side indicators, a central exhaust outlet in brushed stainless steel, and black trim pieces. The factory 18” Porsche Cayman wheels are dressed in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The seller notes very slight signs of road wear on the front bumper. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior is appointed with Platinum Grey upholstery and includes Sport Seats, a Sport Steering Wheel, trim in Galvano Silver, door sill guards with model insignias, an instrument cluster with a central rev counter, cruise control, a multi-function trip computer, and a 7” touchscreen with Bluetooth compatibility.

Mounted just ahead of the rear axle sits a 2.7-liter direct-injection flat-six engine, generating up to 275 HP and 214 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. A major service was carried out in August of 2021 including recommended maintenance, an oil and filter change, and brakes checked as shown in the CARFAX report.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, and two keys.

@exoticmotorcars This is a clean, very low mileage, well-optioned 981. And if it was a S, I'd certainly be bidding. If you run across a 981 S and list it online (auction or otherwise), I'm in. Good to know how close you are to the airport for future reference. Thanks again!

  • exoticmotorcars (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@rdjohns22 If you were to be the successful bidder it may be useful to know that we are directly opposite the Palm Springs International Airport, I would be happy to come and pick you up there!

@exoticmotorcars Just did some research and turns out AZ does have a reciprocal agreement with CA. However, the combined sales tax in my town in AZ (9.20%) is almost exactly what it is in Palm Springs (9.25%). So much for the kids' college fund....but it does eliminate the potential interstate sale tax issue for me.

@rdjohns22 Hey, I enjoy chatting about cars with people! Many states have what is termed a reciprocal arrangement with one another with regard to taxes paid in other states, you would have to check with your state motor vehicle department to be certain. But, keep in mind, the taxes here are quite high and not all states will give credit for the extra amount once they have taken their taxes. Quite often it is more economically sound to pay for shipping and then your state taxes upon arrival. You may save enough to put four children through college! Lol

@exoticmotorcars Thanks for the additonal info. My father had a CA dealer's license back in the day but not an option now. Do you know if, when the car is immediately registered in another state, there is an adjustment for taxes/fees between the two states?

I know this is a diversion from your auction at hand so, again, I appreciate your time. Thanks again.

  • exoticmotorcars (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@rdjohns22 Incidentally, there is another way, basically if a buyer drives a car off the lot they have to pay tax and license fees, if it is shipped and we have a Bill of Lading giving an out of state destination, then no taxes are due. However, if the buyer is a dealer and has the required documentation, dealer number etc, they can drive it away using their dealer plates and not be responsible for taxes as the vehicle is assumed to be for resale.......

@exoticmotorcars Good to know. I appreciate the information. GLWTA!

  • exoticmotorcars (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@rdjohns22 I am not sure about requirements in other states, sorry. But it has been the case here in California for a number of years now.

  • rdjohns22 1 year, 9 monthsago

@exoticmotorcars Regarding the requirement of having to pay CA sales tax and license fees if driving the car out of state after purchasing from a CA dealership... Is that also the case with other states or is it just a CA requirement (if you know)? Just curious. Thanks.

  • exoticmotorcars (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@CarsAreFun , yes, original tires with 7,500 miles on them, no cuts, bulges or flat spots and plenty of tread.

  • CarsAreFun (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

I am not able to see on all 4, but I do read 2014 date codes on the tires. Are all 4 tires the original tires? What does the tread look like? Thank you

  • exoticmotorcars (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@sonderwunsche If the vehicle is driven from our facility we have to charge California tax and license fees. If it is shipped to an out of state address and we have a bill of lading that states this, then there are no California taxes or license fees due.

  • exoticmotorcars (seller) 1 year, 9 monthsago

@bbgt4 Yes it is the same car, the buyer flaked on us.

will dealer allow winning bidder to fly in, pay for the car and drive home with the title in hand? will dealer collect CA sales/use tax if the winning bidder is from out of state (and wishes to drive the vehicle home from Palm Springs, CA)?

  • bbgt4 (registered bidder) 1 year, 9 monthsago

I saw you selling this vehicle on Cars & Bids last year. Did that deal fall through? Or did it change ownership?
