As a limited-edition model honoring Lotus’s Formula One heritage, the Exige LF1 offers race-inspired aesthetics and engineering, with only 81 units produced to commemorate individual Grand Prix victories from 1960 to 2013. Designated as #05 of the production run, this example celebrates the F1 team's victory at Watkins Glen in the 1961 United States Grand Prix. It is reportedly one of only seven imported to the USA and Canada. Powered by a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, it is finished in Motorsport Black Metallic over a black interior. It features a track-tuned suspension, AP Racing brakes, a fire-suppression system, a front splitter, a rear wing, LF1-specific gold wheels, a race-focused cockpit with carbon accents, and more. Stored inside a climate-controlled garage, this rare Exige LF1 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York while showing just 283 miles on the odometer.
Based on the Lotus Exige S, the LF1 features a lightweight composite bodywork finished in Motorsport Metallic Black, with gold and red accents that pay tribute to the marque's F1 racing liveries of the 1970s and 1980s. Signature LF1 elements include a red-accented front splitter, a red-topped rear wing, and gold-and-red center stripes, complemented by gold “LOTUS” rear lettering, LF1 badging, red tow hooks, mesh grille inserts, and an imposing rear diffuser with a center-exit exhaust. It rides on gold-finished 17” and 18” multi-spoke wheels wrapped in an original set of Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tires. The seller notes that the vehicle has undergone a full paint correction, followed by a ceramic coating and the application of paint protection film. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The two-seat cabin features fixed-back composite buckets trimmed in black Alcantara with yellow contrast stitching and “Lotus F1 Team Limited Edition” embroidery, complemented by Schroth Racing multi-point harnesses. Equipment includes a factory bolt-in roll cage, an integrated fire-suppression bottle in the passenger footwell with a dashboard activation panel, air conditioning, a leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel with a Lotus center cap, and a machined aluminum shift knob. The dashboard covering shows “V6 Cup” embroidery and is equipped with minimalist switchgear.
Power comes from a supercharged 3.5-liter Toyota-sourced V6 engine, generating a factory-rated 345 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission and a Bosch Electronic Differential Lock. The chassis features a track-tuned suspension, while braking is facilitated by AP Racing two-piece drilled/vented rotors with red-finished calipers.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals and a Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO).
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. This Lotus is extremely rare. Only 7 were imported to the USA & Canada. I was told this is the only one still on the original MSO. If you are looking for an investment vehicle, this is the car to own in your collection. It's been stored in a climate-controlled garage.”

@az911 Thank you for your questions. Everything on the car is original. It had oil changes done.
Has this car had any service during its 10 year life, or are all fluids, seals, hoses, etc original?
@henrymfisher Not a stupid question at all. I put that piece of Velcro on to attach a dealer plate. It peels off with no residual. Great question!
Stupid question, but what is the black tape on the rear bumper for or covering?
@henrymfisher Hi Henry, thank you for you interest in the Lotus. I don’t have access to a lift in the storage building so I won’t be able to get you those photos. I can assure you that everything on this car is “like new”. The car has less than 300 miles. It’s so clean that you can put it in your living room. ;)
Any chance we can get some suspension/brake/undercover/tie rod photos?
Thanks, Henry
Nice that this comes with an MSO. It could be titled in several states I’ve seen a bunch of S3 cup cars with plates .

@Voxx82 Thank you for the compliments! You are correct. The paint colors are incredible in person. I’m glad you are one of lucky ones to have one!
Beautiful LF1, I also own 1 of the 5 brought into the USA according to Lotus Certificate of Provenance. Pictures don’t do this car justice the Motorsports Black paint pop in the Sun with the gold flake.
@Adam37130 Haha! Maybe someday.
Sell me an E30 M3... you have two 😉
@PhantomU The Lotus is a beautiful car! Thank you for the kind words.
I’ve been enamored with Lotus since I drove a 1972 Lotus Europa John Player Special. This is a modern version of that car and looks to be a true thoroughbred. It’s a great shame that it’s not street legal. Thanks for bringing this to market for some to enjoy.😉

@PhantomU By classifying the Exige LF1 as a track-only car, Lotus was able to sell a handful of them in North America without having to comply with road-legal regulations. A limited number of cars were brought into the U.S. and Canada and were explicitly sold for racing and private track days. This allowed some enthusiasts to own the car, but they were not permitted to register it for street use.
@PhantomU The 2015 Lotus Exige LF1 was not street-legal in North America primarily because it was designed and sold as a "track-day car" and Lotus chose not to pay for the expensive crash testing required to certify it for road use. The cost of meeting U.S. and Canadian safety and emissions regulations would have been too high for such a low-volume, specialized vehicle.
What keeps it from being street legal? What would need to be done to make it street legal?
Good morning to everyone. Thank you for looking at my auction. Please feel free to click the "contact seller" button if you have any questions. I will answer as quickly as possible. This vehicle is simply incredible! So rare!
@rhmoritz @rhmoritz. You're welcome. Thank you for your interest in the car and your comment. The Lotus is not street legal. It can be titled but not registered. I have driven the vehicle on a dealer plate however. It's an amazing car!
Thank you for bringing this super rare Lotus to market. Is the car street legal? Can the car be titled and registered in the U.S.? Recall seeing this car for sale several years ago in the Buffalo area.
