This 2014 Porsche 981 Cayman S was transformed to PCA Club Racing GTB1 specifications by Speedsport Tuning of Danbury, Connecticut, in 2016. The build incorporates FIA-compliant safety equipment, race-tuned engine enhancements, and upgraded suspension and braking systems. A replacement 3.4-liter flat-six was fully rebuilt in 2022 alongside the installation of a new 7-speed PDK transmission, with only 5 hours of runtime reported since. The car was not raced in 2023 and most recently competed in 2024. Showing less than 46k miles on the odometer, this Cayman S is being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

This 981 was ordered in Sapphire Blue Metallic and currently features a red, pink, and purple vinyl wrap with race livery. Modifications include a GT3-style front bumper, headlight covers, hood pins, tow hooks, a custom ducktail-style rear decklid spoiler, a fixed rear wing, a custom exhaust outlet, lowered suspension, and a removed rear lower apron. The car rides on 18” Forgeline wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero racing slicks. Minor wear consistent with track use is noted. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Inside, the cabin has been stripped for weight savings and configured for dedicated track use. Safety and racing equipment include a Sapphire Blue Metallic–painted custom roll cage by JC Customs, OMP Racing seats with Schroth harnesses, a quick-release three-spoke steering wheel, an AiM digital display and dash recorder, a cooling suit system, and a fire suppression system. A custom center console, shift assembly, and floorboards are also fitted. The seller notes that the CEL and TPMS sensors are illuminated, as expected with the installed modifications.

Power comes from a replacement 3.4-liter flat-six engine that was fully rebuilt and installed at approximately 20k miles, and later rebuilt again in 2022 with only 5 running hours since. The rear wheels are driven through a newly installed 7-speed PDK transmission. Suspension upgrades include rebuilt JRZ RS shocks (2022) with 750/850 lb springs, Terrence adjustable sway bars for the front and rear, and GT3 lower control arms. Braking is handled by GT3 front calipers with larger rotors. Additional performance enhancements consist of Cargraphic race headers and exhaust, new CV axles installed with the PDK replacement, and new wheel bearings fitted in 2022.

This race-ready Cayman S is offered with a bill of sale.

The seller would like you to know: “This 2014 Cayman GTB1 is truly turn-key, having benefitted from a full rebuild in 2022 with a replacement motor and brand-new PDK.  Prepared and supported by the respected team at SpeedSport Tuning in Danbury, CT, it’s been kept at a professional level of race readiness with just one outing since the rebuild.  A proven, reliable platform that’s ready to go from day one.”

    @sblack20 Please note the verbiage in the listing and my prior comments—as it is a little confusing. A replacement motor was installed in 2022, of which said motor was already freshly rebuilt. So the answer to your question is technically both—with the detail of it being a new engine important.

    Additionally, that is a typo in the RO. I can guarantee you that the motor is a 3.4 in line with GTB1 regs.

    Also, cannot find mention of the PDK replacement in current invoices but that work was definitely done per the owner.

    (Edited for spelling error)

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

    @makasallc1 Stock ABS. Shocks were also rebuilt in 2022 during the mechanical overhaul, per the owner.

  • sblack20 (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

    @HK_Motorcars
    Thanks for that pic reference, it states in pic 309 used 3.6 swap?

    Was the engine rebuilt? Does this have a 3.6 or is that a bad reference?

    What about the trans replacement, is that detailed anywhere?

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

    I could be missing it but I didnt see any detail that lists the engine rebuild and transmission replacement in the receipts. Pictures 294-296 in the gallery are for some significant amounts but dont have any detail provided so no idea what they are for.

    @HK_Motorcars Thanks for your reply!

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

    @SAMIOT Apologies, I did not see your prior comment until this morning. Thanks for following up.

    As this is a dedicated GTB1 race car, it’s important to note that the rules require the engine itself to remain stock internally — no non-OEM internals, cams, or ECU tunes are permitted. The allowances in GTB1 are limited mainly to intake routing before the throttle body (in the case of this Cayman), meaning things like trunk-mounted airboxes, ducting, or different intake setups are permitted, but once you get past the throttle body the engine must be rebuilt to factory spec. That’s exactly the case here: the engine and PDK were replaced in 2022 due to the demands of racing (previous motor having gone 17k miles as a race car). These cars are maintained on hours, not just miles, which is why a fresh rebuild or even motor at conventionally "low mileage" isn’t unusual in this context. No performance modifications have been made to the internals beyond what the GTB1 rules allow. Hope that helps, please let me know if you would like any further clarifications!

    I'm sure you are busy, but you do state, "round the clock," service in answering questions. I am awaiting an answer for my question which was from 2 days ago.

  • SAMIOT (registered bidder) 1 month, 4 weeksago

    Could seller elaborate upon why the engine and PDK were replaced as well as cause for rebuild of engine most recently considering how few miles were accrued. Also, if there were any specific engine mods would you list them? Thanks!

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 monthsago

    @KayaknFly Correct, this is being sold on consignment. We listed this for sale on a few forums (as well as our website) but the plan was to bring it here to PCarMarket.

  • KayaknFly (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    @seller
    This car was for sale on a website recently, from a private seller.
    Did you recently purchase this car, or is it on consignment?

    The listing has been updated.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 monthsago

    @jammaljc The wording of the description is not accurate. This car was converted into GTB1 spec in 2016 by Speedsport Tuning. At that point (as a 2014 Porsche Cayman S), it had accrued 20k miles on public roads. The ~17k miles since have been around race tracks. The most RECENT rebuild happened in 2022 and the motor only has 5 hours since then. Hope that helps, cheers!

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 monthsago

    @BLH944 This is strictly a race car-only and is being sold on a bill-of-sale. Although it was once street-legal... "re-legalizing" it would be tricky and not worth the effort.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 monthsago

    @Rks05370 Cheers!
    - I'll share receipts on that later today. It was done while the car was under stewardship of Hairy Dog Garage.
    - The rebuild is still fresh and the motor only has 5 hours since—we haven't done a compression test/oil analysis as a result
    - Nothing major. Only incident I'm aware of was largely cosmetic and required a bumper replacement in 2022.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 monthsago

    For the better part of the last five years, this GTB1 car has been campaigned and serviced by Hairy Dog Garage (Daniel Jacobs LLC) of Southbury, CT. All service records from this period will be uploaded to the listing later today.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 2 monthsago

    Hello everyone and welcome to our auction of this 2014 Cayman GTB1 race car! This is the ideal starter car if you are thinking of getting into modern Porsche racing, but it's equally as potent as any other car in its class even still to this day. It was built and ran under Speedsport Tuning of Danbury, CT's racing program and benefits from a recent overhaul in 2022 (with limited usage since).

    Please do not hesitate to ask questions, inquire directly, or leave a comment over the next week. I am here around the clock to answer them all!

    Thanks for visiting and best of luck.

    Buy this and leave new GT3RS for dead at about 20% of the price. If SST built and serviced the car one can be assured it is a great car. Top notch shop and techs.

  • jammaljc (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    Description says engine was replaced at 20K miles, and 5 hours operating since then (along with new PDK), but current odo on car shows over 37K total miles?

  • BLH944 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    Hi Seller- very nice! Is this still street legal?
    GLWTA!

  • Rks05370 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    Nice racecar!
    Who did engine rebuild and new transmission? Receipts?
    Compression test and /or oil analysis?
    Any accidents/incidences?
    Thx so much
