The rarest and most high-performance version of the first-generation Porsche Cayman, the 987.2 Cayman R boasts a more powerful 3.4-liter flat-six engine than a contemporary Cayman S, along with a sport-tuned chassis, a limited-slip differential, and lightweight aluminum doors. Finished in Platinum Silver Metallic, this 2012 example was modified for use in PCA Club Racing events before the seller’s purchase in 2023. It features a 7-speed PDK transmission, a GT4-style fixed rear wing, 18” OZ Racing wheels, JRZ and Tarett suspension components, a bolt-in roll cage, Recaro racing seats, a MoTeC digital display, a fire suppression system, and more. Professionally serviced and prepped for the track, this Cayman R is now being offered for auction out of Illinois with approximately 29k miles showing on the odometer.

Finished in Platinum Silver Metallic, the exterior has been modified with a GT3-style nose vent, black over-the-top racing stripes, #77 side decals, and a fixed GT4-style rear wing. Equipment includes lightweight aluminum doors, an Aerokit front lip spoiler, black-framed headlamp housings, LED taillights and daytime running lights, contrasting mirrors and side air intake grilles, dual center-mounted tailpipes, and 18” OZ Racing Alleggereita wheels dressed in Hoosier racing tires from 2023. The seller indicates the driver’s side was refinished after a minor incident at the track under previous ownership. Some typical signs of track-going wear are noted around the exterior. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The seller would like you to know: “This Cayman R is an excellent vehicle for the track! I always wanted an R and finally purchased one, but as I have grown in my track driving career, I've moved to MT 944s. This car has fantastic upgrades and is well planted in every corner. The vehicle could be street driven depending on the state or a great HPDE car or even raced in PCA or POC (yes, the cage is to technical spec).”

@gwbuildit previous ownership raced in PCA and POC. Gentlemen was in his 70s. Based on his results, looked to be for more fun than competitive (respectfully). He retired and sold the vehicle to me.
Bid in the amount of $29,872
Was it ever raced as well?
@gwbuildit last oil change was July 24 as I did not prep the car for the 25 season.
In 2024, the Cayman did 4 track days (2 hours hpde each). May (x2), August, and Sept.

The motec chip is connected to the engine and has some overrides on the car. It shifts at redline perfectly each and every time. I’m not aware of any other mods to the engine.

I did not take the car out on the track in 2025.
Bid in the amount of $11,000
Can you post all Eurosport service records. Any Check engine lights?
Bid in the amount of $10,600
@Rks05370 it’s a great car. Unfortunately I don’t have all of those details. I understand it was converted later but was a street / de car early. Original brake system. Camber at -2.5 due to Eurosport setup.
Nice car. When and at what mileage was this converted to a race spec? Still have air conditioning? Original brake system?racing control arms? Current camber set up? A strong leak down test would make me and I suspect others bidders
Thx so much

Hey everyone.. looking forward to finding my Cayman R a new home. This car is a dedicated track car that can be used for HPDE or PCA Club Racing (or Porsche Owners Club). A new owner can strip the interior entirely or even consider driving it on the street (depending on your state rules on "street legal"). The R is an amazing vehicle and this car is simply stunning. The GT4 Wing and Racing Stripes give the R an aggressive look. Happy to answer any and all questions to the best of my abilities.
