The 987.2 generation Cayman was updated with a larger 2.9-liter flat-six engine for the 2009 model year. Equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, this 2012 example is finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior. It features bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System, the Sport Exhaust System, body-colored front spoiler lips, deviating-colored details, the Convenience Package, Sound Package Plus, and more. Modified with 18” OZ Racing wheels, a Numeric Racing shifter, Fabspeed race headers, and an ECU tune, this Cayman is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia with approximately 55k miles showing on the odometer.
The exterior is finished in the traditional Porsche shade of Guards Red, accented with optional body-colored front spoiler lips and deviating-colored side air intakes. Other features include bi-xenon headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), daytime running lights, and Sport tailpipes. Modifications include Zunsport front grille inserts, black headlight washers, clear side marker senses, H&R lowering springs, and 18” OZ Racing wheels mounted with used Continental tires. Additionally, front-clip paint protection film and 35% window tint have been applied. Some scrapes on the underside of the bumper are noted, along with a small dent beneath the passenger’s side rocker panel. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin presents Black standard leather upholstery with an optional deviating-colored switch panel trim strip, Guards Red instrument dials, Guards Red seatbelts, and Porsche-crested headrests. Optional amenities encompass heated front seats, automatic climate control, automatically dimming mirrors, a rain sensor, the Sound Package Plus, and the Convenience Package. Additionally, a Numeric Racing shifter has been installed. The seller notes some peeling on the soft-touch material, and the audio system occasionally malfunctions. Replacement of the radio and headliner is recommended.
The 2.9-liter flat-six engine sends as much as 265 HP and 221 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The Sport Exhaust System was additionally opted for. Modifications include Numeric Racing shifter cables, Fabspeed race headers, and an ECU tune. The original headers will be included in the sale. The driver’s side rear side axle was replaced approximately two years ago, and an invoice will accompany the sale. The seller notes the tires cause a slight vibration at speeds above 70 MPH and recommends replacing the tires and performing an alignment.
This sale will include a clean title, two keys, service records, and the original headers.
The seller would like you to know: “I’ve absolutely loved this car. It’s been a blast to own and drive. I’m only selling it because I have to get a car that can handle a baby seat. I wouldn’t hesitate to drive this car anywhere (with new tires). The 987.2 base model is rock solid and 2012 was the last year of the 987 platform and they didn’t make many base models that year.”

Good for you Greer Cars for making room for kids. You can always get another one when the time is right.
I agree, nice deal, just not the right one for me to jump in higher. Enjoy @jrsween!
Congrats to the high bidder, this looks like an excellent car for the price. I got pulled into a meeting and missed out on the last bid. When I got back to the page there were only 7 seconds left on the auction.
Sold for $29,000
@MakeLoveNotBidWars the fronts have a 2019 date code, the rears are 2020. The rears have less tread, but aren’t into the wear bars yet, probably a couple thousand miles left on the rears
The last hour has been interesting. I am interested to see how the last 15 minutes will look.
Sorry for the last minute questions, what are the date codes and treadwear left on the tires?
What are the date codes on the tires?

@Greer_cars, are the current wheels and tires a square set-up or staggered sizes?
Bid in the amount of $22,000
@916Carl the axle replacement was due to a torn boot. The axle might have been fine with just a boot kit, but I didn’t want to take any chances and chose to do the whole axle kit.
This replacement did not coincide with the vibration.
I know we're getting down to the wire, but I just found this listing and have a few questions. Can you elaborate on the axle replacement? Did the replacement of the axle coincide with the vibrations when going over 70mph?
@MakeLoveNotBidWars it has passed the VA emissions scan with the race headers installed. You have to take the flash off the car to do it though.
I have not had the wheels rebalanced, my plan was to purchase new tires and take care of it then. However I ended up needing to sell the car before I was able to get the tires replaced.
To confirm what I read below, this will pass a VA emissions inspection via the OBDII port and will only fail a visual inspection? The place I go to for inspections does not do a thorough visual so as long as it plugs in and passes, it would be a good sign.
With the front end vibration, have you had the wheels rebalanced to rule that out, or just a visual inspection of the wheels to confirm no bends/cracks?
This is my old car! Such a great car and I'm glad to see you've put some miles on it. I've had 3 other cars since this one and this is the one I probably regret selling the most! For the money nothing else comes close. Hope it goes to a good home where is can continued to be enjoyed!!
Bid in the amount of $20,000
@gf2020 they are not, sorry.
Are the original 19" Carrera S II wheels still available?
@RJ80 and there were only 279 2012 base models shipped to North America that year (plus 117 base black editions)
It's worth noting that as a rare 2012 car, this was built in Germany, not Finland. Doesn't really matter except for bragging rights.
@GoseeCal most of the mods were on the car when I purchased. I added the numeric shifter and cables, Zunsport grills, and clear corner lenses. I also have the GT3 ducts for the car but not installed. They’ll be included with the car along with any other stock items I have for the car.
Hello, really nice vehicle, did you put the wheels and other mods on it or were they on it when you bought it?
Added photos showing the books, two keys, softronics dongle, and service records book
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

Dot 2 base manual on H & Rs………lower mi……..this one is pretty darn desirable😇
@kpiskin I live in Metro Atlanta. We do not do visual inspections. Just OBD emissions
@Seanmac24 depending on the county in Virginia, they do not do emissions testing.
@Seanmac24 no CEL. I have the fabspeed o2 spacers with catalysts built in. The Softronics tune also keeps it off, but even in stock tune there is no CEL. The car actually passed the OBD emissions test. It just doesn’t pass the visual inspection.
@greer_cars does the car show a check engine light from the headers?
@Greer_cars I live in Richmond but go to Herndon for work occasionally, but not expecting to return until mid month. Let me think about it.
@kpiskin if I was keeping the car I would probably do that. I would be happy to take it to intersport if we can figure that out before the auction ends. I have to be in the office tomorrow, but I might be able to do a night drop or something.
@Greer_cars have you considered putting the OEM exhaust back on to alleviate concerns? Are you willing to take to Omar at Intersport for a PPI?
@kpiskin photos were from last week. The inspection is expired. I used to have a guy who would overlook the race headers, but he’s no longer available. Have been looking for a new guy but no luck yet.
When were these photos taken? I see the inspection sticker is expired. Has it passed a new state inspection? At what speeds are the vibrations present?
Bid in the amount of $11,000
The winner will be getting a lot of car with this one. You don't see many 987.2s in this spec and condition!
Bid in the amount of $10,000

@Chimy not sure a driving video would show anything. It’s really just felt in the steering wheel. In my recent service I had them look at the wheels and they didn’t see any issues.
Love this thing- I actually remember bookmarking your facebook marketplace listing!
Any driving video showing the vibration above 70? Or is it more felt than audible/visible? Sure it's not a bent rim? Many thanks!
@Davearm127 I have not. I’ve had the car service 4 times and there’s never been a concern.
@Greer_cars Thanks for the info. A little concerning how long those first two oil change intervals are. Have you ever gotten a Blackstone or other oil analysis?
@Davearm127 I have most of the receipts. I’m not sure if the first owner did any additional services that don’t show on the carfax, I have receipts for the oil change at 15k and 30k. The Independent shop I’ve used for my last two services doesn’t show up on the carfax, but I have the receipts for those.
Do you any service history documentation? Looking at the Car Fax, it looks like there were multiple 15,000+ mile oil change intervals.
Thanks.
The 2.9 in the 987.2 was port injected (which is a good thing). Only the 3.4 was DFI.
