Up for auction is this 2011 Porsche 987.2 Cayman S, a purpose-built race car for the Cayman Interseries. It was acquired by the current owner in 2021 and had previously been campaigned in the Cayman Interseries, HSR, and IGT with much success. Features include Bosch Motorsports ABS, a Numeric shifter, StopTech brakes, JRS RS-Pro coilovers, BC Forged wheels, Top Gear headers, and a newly installed 3.4L flat-six engine sourced from a 2012 Boxster Spyder. Showing just over 7,700 miles on the odometer with another 39k on the replacement engine, this race-ready Cayman S is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Florida.
This 987.2 has been refinished in red with a yellow MOMO racing livery. Additions include a front splitter, carbon fiber rear wing, lightweight Lexan windows, and 18" BC Forged wheels dressed in Dunlop Direzza tires. An additional set of matching wheels with new tires is also included in the sale, images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin has been stripped out for weight savings and outfitted with a full roll cage, fire suppression system, Racetech seat, Safecraft harness, a custom switch panel, and Aim MXL data system. Other accessories include a Cayman Interseries floorboard, G-Force window netting, a quick-release steering wheel, and a Numeric shifter.
This Cayman S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine recently sourced from a 2012 Boxster Spyder with 39k miles on the odometer. The seller reports an output of 317 HP at the dyno after installation, using stock intake, exhaust, and ECU programming. Upgrades include Top Gear headers, a RedHead dry break fueling valve, Bosch Motorsport ABS system, JRZ RS-Pro adjustable coilovers, and StopTech brake calipers paired with slotted two-piece rotors. The seller notes the car has been fully prepped for its next owner by Casey Carden Motorsports at Road Atlanta.
This Cayman S will be accompanied by an additional set of wheels and a clean title. Do not miss your chance to hit the track this season behind the wheel of this fully prepped Cayman S race car.

@Autobahn911 - We've owned the car for about one year. It suffered no crash or major damage under our ownership. We did have a exhaust muffler explode which melted the rear bumper skin. It was replaced with new, and other misc scuffs/dents repaired and repainted recently. I researched the history of the car pretty well before we bought it and found no evidence of previous crash damage. All body panels are metal and appear to be original.
Has this car had any wrecks or off track incidents?

@specracer - The team bought the car to replace our 2006 Cayman. The '06 fit in to the WRL GP1 class, but we intended to race this 2011 Cayman (which had been upgraded to the 3.8 Carrera motor) in the GTO class. Since we lost the 3.8 engine, we decided to put to the car back to original form with a 3.4 engine. That made this car non-competitive in the GTO class. Thus the sale and new search for a GTO competitive car.

@RussellWitt thanks for the additional info. Curious why you are selling?

@JOSEJUAN - Good Morning, The engine that was in the car when we purchased it seized during the day 2 race at Barber. Not sure but some kind of oil problem. It was removed and replaced with the current 3.4 engine. We have not raced with this motor, only dyno'ed it after installation. The transmission is as we purchased it last year. I do not know the history, but I can tell you it is the best shifting Cayman I have ever driven...and I have driven several. (I wish the tranny in my personal Cayman race car shifted that smooth) The suspension is as we purchased it. As you can see in the pictures the running gear of the car is very clean and was checked well before we went into the race season.
To finish the earlier question on the car's prep. The car has fresh oil and filter, brakes have been bled. Pads and rotors are used but have good life left in them. Fresh spare front StopTech rotors, and spare set all new pads. One set of slightly used Dunlops and one set new Dunlops. Fresh coolant.
@RussellWitt Do you know what was the reason for the engine change because I see that it only had 7000 miles, the hours of use of the gearbox? and when the suspension was changed and what parts were changed thanks in advance
@specracer - Good Morning....Raced at Barber Motorsports, WRL March 2021. No log books that I am aware of (but I am double checking). OEM fuel tank (red head dry-break filler). I've sent the suspension and prep question to Casey Carden, will post reply asap. But I don't remember doing any suspension work while we have owned the car.
When and where was this last raced? Does it have any log books? Fuel cell or OEM fuel tank?last rebuild on suspension? Can you provide some detail and documentation of the “full prep” done by Casey Carden Motorsports?
@RussellWitt ok thank you very much for your prompt response
I've uploaded a couple photos of the blown exhaust muffler and the guys cutting out the damaged piece so we could race again the next day. I'm sure Pcar will add them to the listing as soon as they can.
@JOSEJUAN . That is absolutely incorrect. We had the muffler overheat and explode during the Barber race (we completed the race and finished 12th overall). There was NO fire. The exhaust heat from the muffler melted the bottom edge of the bumper skin. I have pictures to back this up. So, yes we did replace the entire bumper with new a OEM piece, and rear portion of the exhaust. NO other parts were damaged or replaced from this. And at that time did other miscellaneous body & paint work to freshen the car up for sale. It is painted red, not a wrap. It was factory white originally, but has always raced as the Red MOMO livery.
Doing some research, I was informed by people who participate in the series that this car had been involved in an exhaust fire affecting the rear bumper, including engine cover, fenders, engine, wiring harnesses, modules, could you explain something about this? The 2021 engine change was due to this reason?
The original color of the car was white before the fire problem? or the red color is just vinyl grap?

A new video has been added to the listing page.
@RussellWitt ok thanks it will be great to have the video
I've been asked the question of weight.......last time it was raced it went through tech at 2898 lbs with full tank of fuel & no driver.
@JOSEJUAN I uploaded a cold start-up video a couple days ago.....not sure why its not posted. I will contact my Pcar rep and see if we can't get that added.
Hi do you have any video?

Can you tell me about any damage the car has suffered and extent of repairs?
@euromeister Hello @euromeister, yes this car was 'MOMO' from its inception. I know a lot of the original Interseries owners and they remember racing against this car. Your can find pictures of it via internet search. Also it's the lead car on the "schedule " link on International GT's web page https://www.internationalgt.net ....pretty cool.
Bid in the amount of $5,000
My understanding is that each Interseries car had its own livery. Is this the original?
Hello,
Thanks for checking out our race car! The car is owned collectively by Bourbahn Werks Racing, and was run through Casey Carden Motorsports out of Road Atlanta. The car is currently at Casey's shop. I just happen to be the BWR guy that got put in charge of listing the car for sale. I will try to answer any questions, some answers/photos I may need to get from Casey, as I am in Florida, so please be patient. I have personally raced/driven this car, and I have raced Caymans for almost 6 years. This is a very solid, fast, well kept, example of the Cayman Interseries cars. The Interseries cars are known for being well built, reliable and relatively low cost race cars. Thanks again.
