To be honest, the design of the frame is OK, on the level of lower-end carbon fiber frame. I've built carbon fiber frames and the method this frame was built is a bit old school. The BMW frame uses CF tubes with fabric CF to reinforce where they meet as compared to laying out the frame in a mold with bladders to have the weave of the CF positioned to fine tune stiffness and reduce weight . The bottom bracket where the tubes meet is very similar to how steel frames are built. The majority of CF frames are built in China in ~2 factories. Most don't build this style frame anymore but did 10+ years ago. You can probably still find this frame or similar but most have moved on. The fork is a really generic fork and not very good. The components are middle of road, not what I would expect of custom built frame. Same for the wheels.

Gallery photo’s #1-5 with the white backgrounds are studio shots from bmw advertising.

@moderator - Please remove gallery photo 4, this is not of the correct model.

All other photos myself, have been taken by me personally.

That is great that you still have the box for it. I think it would be smart to post a photo of where it shows on the box that they were manufactured in Germany for all the bidders. Interesting that they chose to partner with another brand 3T on the other models but not this one. I think it should be clarified that there are many photos in this listing that are apparently not your bike being sold. As you mentioned your bike now has Ultegra Wheels with Continental tires, EIS cages and a different stem cap. However there are two different sized frames in the above photos and in the photo section pic #4 shows a bike with a white graphic on the top tube and a FSA Carbon Seatpost not to mention the "M" logo is in a different location near the seatpost.

@jazzyg72 - I have the box. These were manufactured in Germany by BMW at their Landshut Innovation and Technology Centre (LITZ).

As for the majority and masses of BMW’s other bicycle models, they always specify their manufacturing partners. The majority of which are manufactured in collaboration with Italian bike manufacturer 3T and Designworks, a BMW Group design studio.

    Thanks for your questions.

  • jazzyg72 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Okay thanks for sharing that information. "Developed" means the design and engineering was done by BMW M Division. They excluded the manufacturing details and the fact that these were made in very limited number means that creating the molds and bladders for a carbon monocoque frame would not be fully amortized in production costs. I wish you had the original box the bike was shipped in as legally it has to state the country of manufacture on it. It was common knowledge in the bike industry for years that Trek was having its carbon frames made in Taiwan and then assembling the bikes in Madison WI while all along selling the American public on the fallacy their bikes were all made in America. As it stands some of the best carbon motorsports products in the world are coming out of Taiwan now so I have absolutely nothing against that. I would just like full transparency by the brands to the consumers who are buying the products to know before they buy.

  • savethewheels (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

@jazzyg72 - Correct. There is no other branding on the frame.

“Initially created to facilitate BMW’s racing program, the Bavarian firm’s M Gmbh. BMW’s M Division is entering new territory with the introduction of its first racing bicycle, the M Carbon Racer.

The highlight of the bicycle is the lightweight carbon frame that has been developed in-house by BMW’s M division. The German company states that the frame is extremely light and stiff, absorbs shocks, and is absolutely corrosion-free. The bicycle also comes equipped high-end components & tips the scales at just 7.4 kg or 16.3 pounds.

Prices have not yet been released, but BMW said that the M Bike Carbon Racer will be available in very limited quantities from select dealers, June 2011.”

is the only branding on the entire bike the small M logo on the top tube? I wonder which factory made these bikes for BMW?

    Thanks for the question:.

Frame size is stated in the listing at 22”. If you check the last photo in the gallery, I circled the part # & frame size.

    It’s a 56cm frame / 22”
