This 2010 Porsche 987.2 Cayman S was ordered in Arctic Silver Metallic over a premium Terracotta Natural Leather interior including heated seats, PCM 3.0, and the Bose High-End Sound Package. The car also features automatic climate control, the Parking Assist System, self-dimming mirrors, and other driver amenities. It was acquired from its previous owner in 2018 and has been meticulously cared for ever since including a recent set of new tires, an oil change, and a brake fluid flush. Showing just over 55k miles on the odometer, this Cayman S is now being offered for auction out of California.
This Cayman S comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with red-painted brake calipers, dual center-mounted exhaust tips, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and factory 18” Cayman S II wheels. The 987.2 can be distinguished from the first-generation Cayman by its updated headlight and LED taillights units as well as its front air intakes with integrated daytime running lights and revised lower rear valence with twin diffusers. New Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires were mounted in December 2021 and the seller notes some small stone chips on the front end. A roof rack is also included in the sale, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this Cayman S sports Terracotta Natural Leather upholstery and optional heated seats as well as automatic climate control, and self-dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensors. Other amenities include the Parking Assist System, Porsche Communication Management (PCM 3.0) with extended navigation, the Bose High-End Sound Package, a Bluetooth interface for mobile phones, and an XM Radio receiver. The cabin is described to have been very well kept with all features and accessories remaining fully functional.
Up to 320 HP comes from a naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine that drives the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH takes place in less than 5 seconds with a top speed of over 170 MPH. Stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston alloy calipers paired with vented disc brakes at all corners. A service was recently completed in preparation for sale including an oil, filter, and brake fluid change, and the seller notes a wheel alignment was performed in December 2021. A consistent history of service is also provided on the CARFAX report dating back to the initial pre-delivery inspection in 2009.
This sale will include a clean title, a set of two keys, and owner's manuals.

@blackdogcars I don't think there was any repainting of panels. I can say that for certain since when I own the car.
@hansman - Beautiful Cayman! Have any panels been repainted during your ownership or prior to your acquisition?
@mskar we could figure something out potentially.
@mskar I'm just kidding @hansman! Love this car though, it'd look good on me

@twickes40 this car is being sold because I am moving out of state, east-coast. The car won't make sense in the big city there without a garage.
Maybe I missed this, but what's the reason for the sale?
@itsherfault yes, this is a smoke free car. No odor of any kind other than leather. Interior is meticulously well maintained.
Is this car smoke-free?

Have a 2010 Cayman S, 6MT, PASM, Sport Chrono and it is an amazing Porsche. Mine is modded to about 95% of R spec (absent the pedigree!) and is fantastic as a driver, back road burner, and capable, fun track tool. The M.E. configuration shines thru, and with "just enough" modern tech and very few nannies, it is just about a perfect modern Porsche with great capabilities.
Full leather (black/grey on mine) adds so much to the interior experience. For 2/3 to 3/4 the price of a comparable R, the 2010-12 S is a real sleeper IMO. This one will make someone very happy!!
@itsherfault If you buy from a dealer, they will charge you sales tax if you pick it up in person. However, if you buy it from a private party, get a bill of sale and the signed title, then drive it home and pay sales tax in your own state (or no sales tax if AZ).

To those asking about the head gaskets, I would expect you could call Porsche Walnut Creek, who did the service, and they could give you more detail. When purchasing my 987.2, I called the dealer that performed the majority of the services in the cars life, they were rather helpful in giving me background on that car.
Could someone explain California vehicle sales Tax law to me like I'm 10? Let's say I buy car and I'm from out of state but want to drive it home, do I have to pay CA tax?
Or is it better to ship the car home to avoid that?
@wadds1971 For the replacement of the head gaskets, I don't have more information myself other than what is in the Carfax report. I leaned about this from Carfax as well. I have not met the first owner myself but can certify that there has not been any issues with oil from the engine since I own it and I don't see any similar service in the history of the car after that initial gasket change.
I tried to post a comment/question twice yesterday, but it didn't appear, even though PCar says I was "logged in". Thought I'd try once more. @Viss1 had asked about the replacement of the head gaskets early in this car's life. Is there any explanation available for why that was needed? Thanks.
@hansman Thank you for your response
@hansman @stupendous *The car is ready to drive across the country.
@stupendous The car is ready to drive cross country, in fact it has been driven by myself up until this week. There was no accidents or any other meaningful failures on this car ever. The carfax shows all services with a few additional oil changes and brake fluid changes offline.
Good morning. Anything that would prevent the car from being driven across the country? Can I just confirm that the only maintenance that has been performed are the items that you listed previously? Thanks

@Viss1 I have additional records for
- Recent oil change, oil filter and brake fluid change
- Wheel adjustment and brand new set of Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (4 piece) Nov 2021 (see receipt "Rolling Stock" in pictures)
- Air filter change Sept 2020
- New battery in Aug 2019
I will get a video of cold start and driving going for you. Should be uploaded along with the receipts listed above by Friday.
@hansman - Any service records or past PPI results other than what’s shown in the CarFax and the fuel journal?
Particularly curious about the head gasket replacement early in the car’s life.
Also, a cold startup video at the exhaust pipe and driving video would be appreciated if possible. Thanks!
@groach Thank you for sharing your experience @groach. I agree, the interior of this car is different, it really makes my car special and it has been meticulously maintained. It is a 10/10, rare to see in pre-owned Porsches.
This is all together a rare spec. 987.2 is rare. S, manual (PDK was available and take rate was about 2/3) , full leather interior. I'd bet there are fewer than 10 of these.
Year – Total S in US – Base in US
2009 – 725 – 1,241
2010 – 543 – 779
2011 – 506 – 744
2012 – 125 – 337
5,000 – 1899 – 3,101
* numbers copied from forums/BaT comments - but seem plausible
I had a Boxster S in this same color combo. The Terra-cotta is beautiful and includes leather on the dash top and bottom, tops of doors, and the sides of the climate control/stereo. Those are usually just rubberized plastic and the interior really does look, feel, and even smell very special.
Due to the recession, not many .2 987 S cars were made, and almost all were PDK. The improved DFI engine is still the basis of their engines today. They have more power, are more efficient, and have no IMS bearing.
