The 997.2 GT3 RS is one of the rarest modern Porsches and among the last to feature the coveted Mezger engine design. This 2010 example was ordered in a Grey Black exterior featuring unique deletions of the contrasting stripes and model designation as well as optional Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Front Axle Lift System, Sound Package Plus, black leather seats, and Silver-painted wheels. It was acquired by the current owner from Manhattan Motorcars in October of 2011 showing approximately 4k miles and has enjoyed a well-documented history of service from an authorized Porsche dealership.  Now showing just over 8k miles on the odometer, this GT3 RS is being offered for auction by its owner out of Pennsylvania.

This 997.2 comes finished in Grey Black with contrasting red-painted accents on the front grille, mirror covers, and wing end plates. The standard RS stripes and rear model designation were deleted from the factory and the car was optioned with a Silver-painted finish for its 19” center-lock wheels. The seller states the vehicle has never been subjected to track use and notes clear paint protection film has been applied over the hood, around the headlights, and on the rear quarter panels. Some small scrapes are noted on the underside of the front splitter as well as a minor scratch on the hood. The car currently rides on a set of Hankook Vents V12 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior features optional leather seats and a matching three-spoke Sport steering wheel and Alcantara upholstery on the shifter, brake handle, armrests, and seat centers.  Other features include red seatbelts and door pulls, RS 3.8 logo treadplates, cupholders, optional Sound Package Plus, XM Radio, PCM 3.0 with extended navigation, and Front Axle Lift System. Signs of wear are described to be consistent with the car’s mileage.

A naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-six Mezger engine delivers up to 450 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual gearbox. The RS comes standard with short gear ratios, a limited slip-differential, single-mass flywheel, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), and Dynamic Engine Mounts. This example was also optioned with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) as well as a lightweight lithium-ion battery which is currently swapped in favor of a standard Porsche battery. The original lightweight battery accompanies the sale along with service records showing a history of maintenance from an authorized Porsche dealer dating back to the owner’s purchase in 2012.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, optional lightweight battery, and a clean title.

Although worldwide production numbers are quoted a few different ways for these great Porsches, most sites would suggest there are a total of 1500-1600 cars worldwide, with only 543 coming to the USA across the 2010 and 2011 model years. It is a very rare and desirable model for sure!

@nosubstitute4porsche Hello, you are correct the 997.2 3.8 L GT3 RS was also produced in 2011 with I believe total production numbers of around 1800-1900 for this generation (Porsche stats guys can correct me), but both the 2010 and 2011 are identical. There was a special offering of the more rare 997.2 4.0L GT3 RS which was produced in very limited numbers (600). For those considering 991 and 992 GT3 which may be in a similar price range, I personally would gravitate to this generation as it is one of the last offerings of the coveted Metzger engine with addictive sound, precise tactile feel with hydraulic steering, dynamic playfulness and rewards the older chassis provides the driver. Admittedly, this car has less horsepower and might be slightly less user friendly, but the rawness, lightness of the single mass flywheel on this Metzger engine will make you care little about whether you should have gotten a car with PDK and 4 wheel steering because you might be a second faster at the track. This car is more about the quality of the smile on your face rather than the technological wonderment of the modern go fast goodies. But you are still in relative nice creature comforts with a car that blows cold air, has navigation and tunes , not in a race car with a stripped out interior, deafening exhaust, and suspension noises. Sorry I digress. I honestly am honored to have been able to own this car. Best.

@dcd0611 Thank you for your interest. The scratch is quite small (<1cm) and I only notice it recently when I was clay baring and waxing car. I will upload the photo to the gallery. It does not seem to be a full thickness scratch and is not apparent unless looking very closely for it.

@atspeed53 that was my exact thought. For street use its much better

  • atspeed53 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Wsf80 Thank you for your condolences and interest. The options with sport seats and PCCB have served me well as an extremely sporty driver for the street without the extra effort to lift in and out of the bucket seat and the PCCB add performance to the performance and look.

It’s interesting to see optioned with carbon ceramics but no bucket seats.

I’m sorry you have to sell it, but I’m glad you got to enjoy it as long as you did. It’s a beautiful car. Thank you for being a great caretaker of it.

Hello, Just a couple of points of information about last 10 plus years of ownership. The car has been garage kept and covered all of it's life with occasional Sunday drives in good weather. I try to regularly start or drive the car to keep the fluids circulating and seals lubricated. The vehicle has been entirely serviced at the porsche dealership with annual oil changes based on age and regular brake flushes. OEM air and cabin filter recently changed due to age. About one month ago, the car was service with oil change and state inspection with multipoint inspection showing no issues and a requested DME report has been posted showing no history of over revs from downshifting. The optional lightweight battery was changed 1-2 years ago and Porsche no longer offers a lightweight battery for sale, so the standard Porsche battery was installed. When the tires were replaced due to age, a street tire was chosen based on my usage. No accidents, track usage or smoking. Happy to fill in any other details I may have forgotten. Happy bidding.

@Tangerine997 no PPF On doors or rear deck lid.

  • atspeed53 (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@Tangerine997 Hello, the paint meter reading are in microM on the paint reader. I believe each body panel spec is quite close suggesting no panel has been repainted. The paint protection film covers only the nose of the car up to the first third of the hood, the front bumper and area around the headlights, the mirrors, triangle in front of rear wheels. I hope that helps.

@atspeed53 , so the doors are not PPF? What about engine deck lid.

  • Tangerine997 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@atspeed53, Outstanding spec. Question as to the high paint meter readings.
Does the car have full PPF? Are those numbers not in Mils.

Hello, up for sale is my dream car I had planned on keeping forever. This is the best of the last generation GT3 RS “old school” 911 that with analog feel and last offered in manual transmission. The car has been a nice race car for the street. At driver with a front lift kit and the decal delete option that reduces the racerboy look while remain stunning to look at. Unfortunately, a move to the city forces sale so I need to part ways with this amazing piece of machinery.
