The updated 997.2 generation Porsche 911 was launched for the 2009 model year featuring an improved direct fuel-injected engine and a new 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. Among the rarest variants of the 997.2, this 2009 Porsche 911 Targa 4S is finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Black interior and features a sliding glass roof system. It was optioned with a PDK transmission, heated Power Comfort Seats, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Bose High-End Sound Package, and 19” Sport Design wheels. It was purchased from the previous owner out of California in 2023 who had installed several upgrades including GT3 sway bars, GT3 Cup Series lower control arms, wheel studs, and toe links. Accompanied by over a decade's worth of service records, this 997.2 Targa 4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington with approximately 56k miles showing on the odometer.
The 997 Targa models are distinguished by a sliding glass roof system including an opening rear hatch and a chrome accent stripe along the roofline. This 4S is finished in Basalt Black Metallic and rides on factory 19” Sport Design wheels. Other equipment includes bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, clear turn signal lenses, red brake calipers, quad exhaust outlets, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. A wheel stud conversion kit was installed under prior ownership and Xpel Ultimate paint protection film was applied over the front bumper, hood, fenders, and mirrors in 2013. New Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires were also mounted about a year ago. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting a damage report in November 2017.
The Black interior features optional heated Power Comfort Seats with driver memory and an OEM three-spoke SportDesign steering wheel with paddle shifters. Other accessories include a Sport Chrono dashboard stopwatch, automatic climate control, cruise control, the Bose High-End Sound Package, a Bluetooth phone interface, a universal audio interface, and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation. The seller notes the rear seatbelts have been removed and are included with the sale along with the original steering wheel. The driver’s seatbelt chime is currently deactivated.
A naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 385 HP to all four wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. The suspension was upgraded under prior ownership with a GT3 sway bar kit, adjustable drop links, GT3 Cup Series lower control arms, toe links, shims, and jack plate tie-downs. The coolant tank was replaced by the previous owner and the seller is providing a set of new OEM front rotors as the current brakes are recommended for replacement.
This sale will include the original steering wheel and rear seatbelts, a toolkit, a car cover, a battery charger, and a clean title (lien).
The seller would like you to know: “I do truly love this car - if it was practical, I would keep it. As it is my only vehicle, and I do not want to subject it to the winters in the PNW, I unfortunately have to sell. Maintenance is up to date, and I have planned ahead for future maintenance knowing the front brakes will need to be done within the next 6-12 months. You will receive a pair of OEM front rotors. I have never abused it, never tracked it, and never even gone about 90 MPH. The engine sounds glorious and I know it will be missed.”

well done @VintageHP. This gen Targas are the most practical of all 911 variants, this example looks pristine as well.

@DanielPHays - thx for the prompt response - much appreciated.

GLWTA !
@PacketNarc I meant to type 90 - and not sure why it came out as 105 - the joys of typing on a phone vs a keyboard.
Regardless, there is not much difference at that speed 90, 100, 105 - all three are vastly above the speed limit and equally as dangerous. Sure, the stopping distance will be about 450ft - 604 and a bit more stress on the brakes, that said, it should be 90 MPH on both.
Thanks for bring up the small typo :)
@DanielPHays you said you never took the car above 90 on your posting and now you post that you hit 105 on the freeway.
So which one is the lie ?
@Jessannjoh or to accommodate winter tires. Or to make maintenance easier and avoid / reduce the chance of seized lug bolts, or to make it easier for an individual to pull wheels off for cleaning, maintenance, etc.
There’s so many reasons someone would switch from bolts to studs.
A PDK Targa is pretty low on the ‘suspected track car’ risk list. Just sayin.
@Ram3k I just uploaded two videos (hopefully they load appropriately). One is of the cloth screen opening and closing. The other is the Targa glass top opening and closing from the inside.
I hope these help + if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
Cheers.
@seller - nice spec and it seems you’ve been a good steward of the car.
Is there any chance you could post a video of the targa opening and closing ?
Thx

@waveroamer The only time I really notice rattles is when I put change in the ashtray.
There is minimal noise from the top - the only time I notice it is when driving at >80mph.
Overall, it is solid. I would give it a 9/10 (very little noise, harshness, vibration)
Squeaks and rattles? I hear it’s common for the glass top to rattle as it ages. How’s the overall NVH?

@Jessannjoh Thanks for clarifying that for me. I also noticed he put wheel spacers on the same service which pushes these wheels out to where they really need to me.
Bid in the amount of $20,000
@Us42 Absolutely capable - the last oil change was approximately 5,000 miles ago (have purchased 10L, and oil filter to do in a few months but happy to donate), tires are close to new, etc - only thing needed would be a full tank of gas (or several).
Would this car be capable of buying and taking it directly on a few day road trip back to Southern California? Any maintenance items that should be taken care of before driving off?
@Jessannjoh I understand what you are saying. Unfortunately, I do not have knowledge if the previous owners tracked it or not.
I can say that it drives as new, corners like a dream and the noise is perfect.
The shop here has gone through the car giving it a clean bill of health.
The seat belt wasn’t the reason I asked the question. I removed the rear seat belts on my 2007 Carrera 4S Cab because they left impressions on the seats when I had the rear seats folded down. My concern was the wheel studs. Those are installed to accommodate track day wheels and tires.
Why would the different wheel and removal of back seat belts point to "tracking"? Even if he snuck to the track it is no different than any Porsche owner of any Porsche getting on his/her car occasionally on the street. I would not worry about this.
These glass-top Targas are so rare and such an amazing driving experience. Only 1156 made worldwide for 2009, with the majority remaining in Europe. 1st year for PDK, ventilated seats, more HP, and yet the last of the true analogs. See the world through your glass top as you drive your 997 in climate controlled bliss! I will always be a fan and wish you the best on your auction. PS... You will have regrets.
Bid in the amount of $12,000
@Jessannjoh you are correct regarding the front plate being where the toe hook is. Unfortunately, I do not have the cover.
I enquired to the previous own about if the vehicle was tracked. He denied it (was an old guy in his late 70’s). According to him, he did the work with the intention of taking it to the track, but his wife wouldn’t allow it. I cannot vouch for what he said, but it what was told to me.
I can say that I never tracked or abused it. The closest would be either a) scaring the pants of my fiancé doing launch control (the one and only time) or b) hitting 105 on I5 towards Seattle without realizing it - needless to say, I dropped to the speed limit.
Beautiful Porsche. I assume the front tag is mounted to the tow hook bracket. Do you still have the cover for the bumper? My state doesn’t require front tags. Also, do you know if the car was tracked under previous ownership? It stands to reason with the modifications that have been done. It is a Gorgeous automobile!
I ordered a 2009 Targa 4S Malachite Green Metallic, with these wheels and black interior. All these options. But had to put it off as a divorce scared me away from it. This car car and those like it, 2009 to 201 4 and 4S and truly the perfect 911. Then 911 became "super cars" and lost what I dreamed of buying since 1972. Just my opinion.
@1xfatboy thank you! It really is! The exterior is almost a mirror. When I was taking pictures for the auction, I had to keep retaking them from different angles as you could see my reflection. It truly is stunning.
Cheers!

Beautiful car
@CoolToys Thanks for the question - the previous owner did both of these. That said, the upgraded wheel with larger paddles is sooooooo much nicer than the stock wheel - smaller diameter + just feels nicer with much more definitive shifing via paddles than the small buttons.
As far as the rear seatbelts, as we don't have children and 100% of the time, the back seats were folded down. No one ever sat back there. With the 997.2, the Targa is the only model where the rear hatch opens - it makes a GREAT use for going to Costco/grocery shopping. I never felt the urge or desire to reinstall them.
Why did the Targa steering wheel and rear belts come out?
@rickster It does not have the sports exhaust - that is probably the only option that if I was building from new that I would have added.
That said, with the stock exhaust, you are able to either do a Gundo or other modification that suits your taste.
Thanks for your response.
Sport Exhaust?
@rickster Thanks for the question - I have paperwork dating back to 2013 and there is ZERO record of it.
My honest guess is that it was something extremely small and was remedied with a new part by Porsche. I went over it head to toe with a fine tooth comb and couldn’t find anything wrong, any damage or sign of damage.
It would be easier to say ‘yeah…x,y,z happened and here is how it was remedied’ Unfortunately, I don’t have the documentation or could find any issues that were taken care of.
Any pics of the reported damage by Carfax??
RH
Thank everyone who might be interested in my car. It just about breaks my heart to sell it, but the car has been babied, maintenance has been done (for the past year and 1/2 by a small Indy shop on the island I live on). It drives like a dream!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask - I will follow up asap.
Cheers!
Can my post be deleted?
@VWMinnesota why are you saying this car was abused? Based on the CarFax service history? That is often incomplete, especially if not serviced at a Porsche dealer. The seller has additional service documentation.
Seems not much maintenance was done to this car over its life. That's a drag. Not saying you as you just bought it. The the other owners abused this thing,
Nice. This is perfect. Wheels. Targa. 4S Perfect colors.
