The ultimate Mercedes-Benz R230 SL-Class roadster, the SL65 AMG Black Series features DTM-inspired carbon fiber bodywork, AMG adjustable coilover suspension, AMG forged light-alloy wheels, and a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 661 HP. One of 300 units produced in total and only 175 sold in the United States, this 2009 example is finished in rare Mars Red paint over Black AMG Exclusive Leather upholstery. It was delivered new in California and is now being offered for auction out of Florida with just over 4,300 miles showing on the odometer.
Inspired by Mercedes’ DTM race cars, the Black Series features lightweight carbon composite bodywork including flared wheel arches, a vented hood, a front splitter, side skirts, and a retractable trunk lid spoiler. Other details include xenon headlights with active curve illumination, a headlamp washing system, “V12 Biturbo” fender badges, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, dual AMG tailpipes, and silver AMG-branded brake calipers. This example is finished in Mars Red and rides on factory 19”/20” AMG twin 6-spoke forged light-alloy wheels. The seller notes new tires have been installed and the car’s exterior is preserved by clear paint protection film. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is appointed with Black AMG Exclusive Leather upholstery complemented by a matching Alcantara headliner and carbon fiber trim. Accessories include AMG 12-way adjustable multicontour sport seats with contrast stitching, an AMG small-diameter performance steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, an AMG instrument cluster with RACETIMER, AMG door entrance plates, dual-zone automatic climate control, Keyless-Go, a COMAND infotainment system, and a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon Logic7 surround sound system.
The SL65 AMG Black Series features a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine that delivers up to 661 HP and 738 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed AMG Speedshift Plus automatic transmission and an AMG limited-slip differential. The car comes equipped with an AMG Sport Exhaust System, AMG adjustable coilovers suspension, and an AMG high-performance braking system featuring cross-drilled compound rotors paired with 6-piston calipers in front and 4-piston calipers at the rear.
