Pairing a 6-speed manual transmission with its naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six, this 2008 Porsche 997 Carrera S comes finished in Cobalt Blue Metallic over Black upholstery. Acquired by the seller as a Porsche Certified Pre-Owned vehicle in March 2014, it has since been converted to a track car, incorporating a lightweight interior, a roll cage, OMP Racing seats, a short-throw shift kit, Ohlins track-dedicated suspension, Pagid Racing yellow brake pads, GiroDisc brake rotors, braided stainless steel brake lines, and much more. Showing approximately 102k miles on the odometer, this track-ready Carrera S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.
This 997 comes finished in Cobalt Blue Metallic and can be distinguished as a Carrera S by its red-painted brake calipers and quad exhaust outlets. It rides on optional 19” Sport Design wheels shod in three-year-old Hoosier R7 tires, used for a single weekend on the track. Modifications include hood latches, a fire suppression system, and a 2” lowered ride height. The seller notes some paint imperfections, and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, the black cabin has been stripped for a lightweight setup. Modifications include a bolt-in roll cage, OMP Racing seats with a driver’s halo, Sparco Martini Racing 6-point harnesses, a quick-release MOMO steering wheel, a GT2/GT3 short-throw shift kit, an AIM Solo 2 data logger, an engine kill switch, and the removal of the rear seats and carpeting. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.
The engine has been replaced with a 2007 Carrera S-derived 3.8-liter flat-six engine, which reportedly had approximately 53k miles at the time of installation. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission, with the clutch replaced approximately 13k miles ago. Notable modifications include a Softronics Performance Software ECU tune, Rennline Strut Tower Brace, Ohlins Road and Track suspension, Pagid Yellow RS-19 brake pads, GiroDisc brake rotors, braided steel brake lines, and an auxiliary oil cooler. Most upgrades and services are said to have been carried out at Quantum Speed Works in Alton, VA, at VIR.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This Carrera S was purchased as a CPO from Porsche of Hilton Head as a daily driver in March 2014. I drove the car as my daily for a couple of years and then slowly started to upgrade it to be more performance-oriented, and a better track car with a focus on HPDE events. The car has served me very well and is a blast to drive on the track. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to get to the track to enjoy it, so I am letting the car go to a new home where it can be appreciated. Good luck with your bidding.”

Come on let’s get the bidding going, this seems like a bonafide street track 997 build! I’m pretty dead set on purchasing an Elise in a short while, but if we’re hanging around these prices I’ll see what I can get done on this instead haha

@WH911 - Exhaust was swapped with a street legal set up when the ECU was flashed. There are no CEL's showing on the dash.
What are the exhaust modifications?
Any CELs or sensors deactivated?

Hey seller, any driving videos from on track to hear and see performance of engine and suspension upgrades?
Bid in the amount of $10,250
@Havenhearth I appreciate the questions.
The black objects are hood latches installed on the stock hood.
The replacement engine was from the car of a family member and well cared for in its chassis prior to it being pulled out. At the time it was transferred to the car, it was current on all maintenance and has been maintained well since being installed in the car. With the flash and the exhaust, it is making approximately 397HP at the rear wheels.
Laptimes at VIR are between 2.10-2.12 on the Full Course at HPDE events in the Advanced Group. If you are able to use it for more than a few events a year, I am sure they can come down a bit more.
The suspension is the Ohlins Road and Track set up (Dedicated Track) built and installed by 3DM Motorsports. Ind addition to this set up, the car has camber plates on it as well.
Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
Matt
Hello again McQ,
First, thank you So Much for your thoughtful and thorough responses to my questions. I wish there were more people who respond as you have to my inquiries.
Second, please help me with my ignorance. In photo 17-19 two black objects are shown on the hood / bonnet, symmetrically flanking the Porsche emblem. What are they?
Was the replacement engine ‘breathed on’ in any way, before or since installation?
Do you know the approximate current HP rating?
And do you have lap times at any tracks I would recognize? I’m most familiar with Lime Rock, NHIS, VIR or Summit Point. What kind of events did you use this car for?
Did you do any of the performance upgrades to the suspension? ( GT3 links, etc )
Thank you again for your assistance.
Regards,
David
@Havenhearth David,
The engine in this car is the 3.8 liter flat-six. The IMS bearing was replaced before I put the engine in the car, so this should not be an issue.
The Driver's seat is fixed to the floor but can be adjusted. I am 6'2" so there should be plenty of room to adjust to accommodate your height.
There is no deferred maintenance required on the car at this time. The only maintenance I am aware of that will need to be performed in the next two years, are the consumables (fluids and tires). The car has been well cared for and maintained at Quantum Speed Works at VIR.
Depending on the state where you are looking to register the car, I suspect you would have to swap out the removable steering wheel and potentially change out the driver's seat with a halo. The car was streetable, but the suspension is quite stiff and set up for the track. However, the suspension is fully adjustable, so you may be able to dial it back so you are comfortable on the street.
Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions that I have not addressed.
If memory serves, 3.6 liter engines from 2007 still had an IMS vulnerable to failure.
What is the status of the IMS in this engine, please?
And is the driver’s seat fixed or adjustable fore and aft? ( I ask because I am 6’6” )
What —if any— deferred maintenance work will need addressing in the next two years?
And is the car streetable as is, and if not, what mods would be needed to make it street legal? ( and would it be exceptionally uncomfortable to drive on the street? )
Thanks in advance for your time and for your assistance,
David
The bolt-in cage is from Safety Devices and the slicks on the car have 2 weekends on them but have a 2021 manufacture date.
The replacement engine has approximately 60K miles on it since new. It was pulled from another 2007 Carrera S we owned. The mileage on the odometer is what the car has on the chassis.
What's the condition of the slicks currently on the wheels? And how much track time has the chassis / replacement engine seen?
Looks like a very fun car with pretty good mods. What brand is the bolt in cage?
