Finished in Guards Red over a Black interior, this 2007 Porsche 987 Cayman S features a 6-speed manual transmission paired with its 3.4-liter flat-six engine as well as optional heated seats with Porsche crested headrests, the Bi-Xenon Headlamp Package, Bose High-End Sound Package, and 19” Carrera Sport wheels. It was sold new from Porsche Santa Barbara and was purchased by the seller from the original owner’s collection in 2023. Benefitting from a major 40k-mile service completed in November 2023, this Cayman S is now being offered for auction out of California with under 1,400 miles showing on the odometer.

This 987 is finished in Guards Red and is distinguished as an “S” model by its red brake calipers and dual exhaust tips. Other features include a speed-activated rear spoiler, front fog lights, side air intakes, an opening rear hatch, center-mounted tailpipes, optional bi-xenon headlamps, and 19” Carrera Sport wheels. The seller describes the car’s exterior to be in excellent overall condition with a paint correction and ceramic coating application in November 2023. Clear paint protection film is also applied over the front bumper, hood, fenders, mirror covers, roof, A-pillars, and behind all four wheels. It rides on original factory-mounted tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this Cayman S features a Black interior with optional heated seats and Porsche-crested headrests. Other accessories include automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a central locking system, a Porsche CDR 24 stereo, the optional Bose High-End Sound Package, and luggage nets in the rear cargo area. The seller adds that the interior appears to be in like-new condition and an extra set of unused OEM floor mats is included along with an OEM rear window screen, spare door sill covers, a 12-volt vacuum, and Dents leather driving gloves.

A naturally aspirated mid-mounted 3.4-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 295 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH takes place in less than 5 seconds while stopping power comes from fixed 4-piston brakes paired with cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller indicates a major 40k-mile service was completed in November 2023 which included new spark plugs, a brake fluid flush, an oil change, a new oil drain plug and gasket, a new cabin filter, and a new engine air filter. The seller adds that the pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light occasionally appears on the dashboard as the sensors require new batteries.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, an unused OEM car cover, a battery charger, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, an extra set OEM floor mats, an OEM rear window screen, extra OEM door sill covers, a dashboard cover, a windshield cover, Dents leather driving gloves (M), a 12-volt Autosport vacuum with replacement bags, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This car is in outstanding cosmetic and mechanical shape and is ready to be driven or to be put in a collection, with all critical maintenance items recently completed. This is one of Porsche's last great analog driving machines. If you wanted a new Cayman S in 2007 but didn't have a chance to purchase one, this is as close as you'll ever get.”

@LP356c Yes, done by an independent. There was one wire where insulation was missing and that was repaired by Porsche, with a Porsche part.

Any truth or merit to the rodent damage comment? Thanks and please advise.

I contacted Porshe that you listed in the photos. They said there was rodent damage on the car and that a 40,000 mile service was not done and the brake and the spark plugs were not changed. You listed these as being done. What is it done elsewhere

    Good luck everyone.

@RLTCo I referred to the 40K service that was listed as done, not the mileage

@RLTCo Pictures of the odometer can be seen in the gallery as well.

  • Slytuna (seller) 11 months, 1 weekago

Seller: I just joined; Is the mileage as listed 1,380 or is it about 40,000 as suggested in the comments by LP356c (see just below)

RJ80 makes very important points. The car may be new, but the fluids are quite old along with some of the rubber. GLWA!

  • Slytuna (seller) 11 months, 1 weekago

Thanks for your input @RJ80. I think most feel fortunate to have found a low miles car (as I did) amongst the abused ones, and or high mileage cars. I’d take a new one that’s been in Saran Wrap, any day.

    Happy bidding everyone

  • RJ80 (registered bidder) 11 months, 1 weekago

@Slytuna Yes, but the fuel pump was destroyed by old fuel, as the invoice notes, and it's entirely possible there is yet more unforeseen damage that will make itself known down the road. There is also no evidence that the cooling system was flushed or transmission fluid changed, so those are likely to be original from 2007 still. All I'm saying is that more work will almost certainly be needed to make up for years of, frankly, neglect.

  • Slytuna (seller) 11 months, 1 weekago

@Decatur15 I will be more than happy to have that done for you.

  • Decatur15 (registered bidder) 11 months, 1 weekago

    Hello
If I were to win the auction could you have new tires installed so I could drive the car home? I would pay for tires.
    I live in Phoenix
    Thank You

@RJ80 A 40k mile service was performed in November 2023, based on time not miles.

    This included:
    OEM SPARK PLUGS
    OEM AIR FILTER
    OEM CABIN FILTER
OEM OIL FILTER+OEM OUL DRAIN PLUG+OEM WASHER
    MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL
    PENTOSIN BRAKE FLUID FLUSH

The car also got a brand new PORSCHE battery, OEM fuel pump/sending unit, fresh fuel and a Porsche fuel system cleaner. These items were done before ever being driven on the road again (APRIL 2023). This was at a cost of over 4k. It was also just polished and ceramic coated at a cost of $1600.

In my opinion car can be driven (the reason I bought it), or it can be put away. It’s a new car and shows absolutely no sign of any issue.

  • RJ80 (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

I think we can all agree it's not good for a car to not be driven for long periods of time. Seals and other rubber components dry up. Tires age and flat spot. Brake fluid is hygroscopic. It attracts water which then sits in the brake and clutch systems and acts as a corrosive. Same for ethanol, which both attracts water in the fuel system and becomes gummy. Not to mention, any maintenance done on a time basis (tires, belts, fluids, etc) will all need replacing if they haven't been done on schedule. Yes, you could drive the car, but in addition to devaluing it you will need to spend quite a bit of either time or money getting the car's maintenance up to date. This car has been kept as a museum piece and should continue to be kept in the same manner.

  • LP356c (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

@WRENCH.56 you are so right, If I buy this car I will be driving it, others I own have become so valuable that you are afraid to drive them, that is what we buy them for, the joy of driving.

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

IMO, of course this car should be driven. If you were to buy a new base Cayman for $70,000+ what would you do with it? Drive it as fast and as often as possible, right?
Don't look at it as something overly precious. Look at it as a new car at a great discount. No point in your car outliving you in some pristine garage!

@Bruno911 "Average" new crossovers are $70k? I guess I don't live in the same zip code as you do.

I'm simply insinuating that this car's value is in its low miles and pristine condition. It takes a unique buyer to put it on the road and lose all that. Why, when you can have one to actually use for far less? Sure many people can afford to depreciate this car, but most of those people aren't in the market for a 987 to drive -- they've been there, done that, moved on to the latest and greatest. But maybe they want to tuck away a pristine example as a trophy.

I think this car will make an excellent addition to a collection of rarely-driven cars, of which there are plenty. Lots of collectors enjoy having and looking more than driving. Just ask this car's previous owners!

  • Bruno911 11 months, 2 weeksago

@RJ80 why just to look at? This car will sell in the neighborhood of $50k. That’s about $20k less than your average new boring SUV or crossover which no one’s thinks twice about treating as an appliance as soon as they drive it off the lot. Plenty of people out there that can buy this and drive the wheels off it without thinking twice about whatever little depreciation (in absolute dollar terms) that will result in.

  • RJ80 (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

Great car if you want to buy one to look at.

@Tripin6 Hey @Tripin6, Thanks for the interest. My neighbors home is coming up for sale so I am selling off a few cars in my collection to help purchase it. I truly wish I didn't need to.

  • Tripin6 (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

Why are you selling this beauty?

  • por356c (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

What fantastic exciting car! But I must take issue with the sellers comments on the tires. I am in the rubber business and I can assure you that tires that are 17 years old must not be driven on. The rubber has long since chemically broken down, and even if they were brand new and never mounted to anything. Tire life from age is a maximum of 7 years and its regardless of mileage. But no big deal, anyone buying this car can surely afford a new set of biters! GLWA.

@dhdickson Thank you! Its one of those cars that cant be passed up. Good luck

  • dhdickson (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

@Slytuna OK, now I just need to see if I can find a space in my garage. I really wasn't in the market, but this is a really special car. GLWTA!

  • Slytuna (seller) 11 months, 2 weeksago

@dhdickson The Tires are in extremely good shape with no flat-spots and no signs of cracking or dry rot either. As a matter of fact they're still very sticky like a new set of Michelin pilot sports. After putting a couple hundred miles on them I would personally trust them 100% for a cross-country trip.

  • dhdickson (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

What a beauty -- really tempted. I've owned a bunch of P-Cars, one of which was a 944 S2 in the same color combo and always loved it. I note that the tire date codes indicate 2006, so that would have to be addressed, but don't see any indication of sidewall cracking -- think they could handle a cross-country trip?

  • Tripin6 (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

So did you purchase the car just to resale it?

  • Slytuna (seller) 11 months, 2 weeksago

@RLTCo This car was one of many in a collection and spent most of its life on Jack stands in a climate controlled facility. Original owner is in his 80’s and started thinning out the herd. This Cayman S was one of his favorites so he used another Cayman to put miles on.

  • RLTCo (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

What factors contributed to this extraordinary low mileage?

  • patco2927 (registered bidder) 11 months, 2 weeksago

Wow!! Beautiful car. And just after I took delivery on my 06 that I thought was low miles!! GLWA!! Fantastic.

  • Slytuna (seller) 11 months, 2 weeksago

Hello all and welcome to my Cayman S auction. This is, as far as I know, the lowest mileage 987.1 Cayman S in existence and is absolutely impeccable.

Good luck to all bidders and if you have any questions, please reach out.

    Happy bidding everyone
