Now up for auction is this 2007 Porsche 997 Targa 4S finished in Black. Among the rarest versions of the Porsche 997, the Targa model was offered in an all-wheel-drive configuration only featuring a unique sliding glass roof system and opening rear hatch. This 2007 example was configured with a 6-speed manual transmission as well as optional supple leather seats, 19” Carrera Sport wheels, the Sport Chrono Package Plus, and Bose High-End Sound Package. It benefits from a consistent history of service and has been cared for by two prior owners, the latter of whom owned the car for the past 11 years. Accompanied by its original window sticker totaling over $108k, this 997 Targa 4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Missouri showing just over 34k miles on the odometer.
This 997 comes finished in nonmetallic Black and sports a chrome accent along the roofline which is specific to the Targa model. As a 4S, this 997 also features wider fenders as well as red-painted brake calipers. The finish has been preserved with a layer of clear paint protection over the forward half of the hood, front bumper, fenders, and mirror covers. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory optioned 19” Carrera Sport wheels come mounted with a set of Pirelli P Zero tires.
Inside, you will find a black interior with optional supple leather upholstery for the front and rear seats. Other features include heated front seats, the Power Seat Package, self-dimming mirrors, Sport Chrono Package Plus, the Bose High-End Sound Package, a remote 6-disc CD changer, and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation and telephone modules. The retractable glass roof panel can be slid in place behind the rear window at any speed, while a small glass deflector strips is raised above the windshield to compensate for aerodynamics. The rear hatch may also be opened to access the cargo area, a feature unseen on any other 997.
This first-generation 997 is equipped with a 3.8L flat-six engine that produces up to 355 HP and 295 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission, allowing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in less than 5 seconds. The optional Sport Chrono Package Plus adds a variable Sport mode and allows the driver to adjust the settings of the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The seller reports the car to have been routinely serviced throughout its life and CARFAX shows maintenance performed mostly by Porsche South Bay of California and CS Motorsports of Wisconsin. A DME report is provided in the gallery as well.
This sale will include a set of two keys, the original window sticker, and a clean title. Do not miss this elusive opportunity to own a 997 Targa 4S with a 6-speed manual transmission.

@Dino356987 Regarding the higher reading of the paint meter. This car has a paint protection film on the front 1/3rd of the car. Very possible that is being measured.
Regarding "hard to put a value on it" a very similar car, color, mileage sold for $72,500 on BaT in June.
Bid in the amount of $58,500
@Porsche921 None
Any stickiness or other wear on the A/C buttons?
Bid in the amount of $57,997
@jonas1jp possible, texture is consistent, no tape lines, only way to detect is paint meter,
@jonas1jp hood
What panel is the 7.0 mil reading on? Is that the hood? Perhaps a respray on it at some point, or?

I actually looked at this 997 today, super nice. Everything about this car looks showroom fresh. It appears to have had really good care and no signs of damage or abuse. Hard to put an honest value on cars like this. They are hard to fine and continue to increase in price. GLWA
@pdebonis7 Paint condition is excellent! car is free from door dings, nicks or scratches, clear bra on the front, if you are on your hands and knees with a magnifying glass you might find something small, I don't see anything that stands out when you walk around the car.
It is truly showroom condition and better in person than the pictures show.
@Adama4ld I would be glad to work with you on the trade, please send a direct message and I would be glad to give you a trade value.

Hi there. Are local trades possible with this auction? Thank you.
Dino356987
Can you describe the paint condition?
Are there any chips, scratches, or swirls?
Any generation IMS bearing is a wear part, plain and simple. Most simply last a long, long time. It’s elimination in the 9A1 is a godsend.
IMS The Facts
According to research and multiple surveys, the results of which were published on Rennlist.com, the IMS bearing issue could be narrowed down to 997 models that were produced in late 2005 and early 2006. Even out of that short time frame, less than 1% of vehicles were affected by IMS bearing failure. So, it's possible that most of the talk and panic found across the Internet may have been blown relatively out of proportion. The various surveys over three years of research have revealed few chronic problems, while showing a couple one-off occurrences that could be attributed to nothing else than simple manufacturer problems. Most 997.1 and 997.2 models are nearly bulletproof, and most senior forum members would be surprised if any engine issues are attributed to IMS bearing failure for these two models.
@211Broadway Here is more cut and paste for you to review.

To Dino (the seller). Thank you for the cut and paste information on the IMS issue. Granted, IMS failure rates in this car are very low, but they definitely happen. Any buyer should factor 3 grand (maybe more depending where you live) into the purchase price.
This is from a 997.1 owner who learned the hard way......
IMS fix = peace of mind
Bid in the amount of $31,997
To do the IMS on this car you have to split the cases. Not as much of a problem as in an 2005.
@gwgrind Next week, Service history is listed on Carfax
@pbegummibear Client is forwarding me the owners manuals and records.
Feel free to reach out to the service center if you would like to talk to them.
Dino- has the owner provided this yet?
Bid in the amount of $30,997
@gwgrind WHAT PORSCHE MODELS HAVE IMS BEARING PROBLEMS?
Although the early dual row bearing and larger bearing used in 2006 though 2008 model year vehicles have a relatively low failure rate (reported at 1% by the Eisen Class Action Lawsuit), the single row ims bearing used from 2000 through 2005 had a reported failure rate of 8% under warranty. However in the years since the Eisen settlement, failure rates have increased the longer the original bearings have been in service, so anyone with a 1997-2005 Boxster or 911 should have their intermediate shaft bearing replaced as part of preventative maintenance to prevent catastrophic engine failures in their Porsche engines caused by failure of the IMS bearing.

@Dino356987 pretty slick. Thank u.
@gwgrind there is a person in the car.
Dino- on the lazy Susan video, there is an audio track. Is that supposed to be this car? Maybe the person doing the revs is laying flat, out of view! Time permitting, can u do quick vid of normal cold start please?
Bid in the amount of $29,000
@gwgrind Pretty rare. And Manual! Nice ride. Love the Targa. Thx for finding one!
Bid in the amount of $28,000
@211Broadway ?
. Dino- I saw earlier wanting on work/ service history. Perhaps there is a mention.
GWgrind, you are not wrong. IMS is always a concern for this model and year.
@Dino356987 hmm. Maybe my research was not thorough. Thought IMS issue possible thru all 997.1’s. My bad.
@gwgrind ims issues were common on 996 and very early 997 (2005) not an issue on later models. Lots of information on the net.
Hi. Any info on IMS?
