This first-generation 2006 Volvo XC90, powered by a Yamaha-built V8 engine, is a limited Ocean Race Edition that commemorates the second Volvo-sponsored Ocean Race in 2005. It is designated as #294 of the 800 examples produced and is finished in Ocean Blue Metallic. The vehicle was originally equipped with the Climate Package, Convenience Package, and Bi-Xenon headlamps, bringing its original sticker price to over $53k. Originally leased by a Volvo dealership until 2008, the car was sold to new owners in 2009, who maintained it until 2023. It was then acquired by the current seller on PCARMARKET. Having since been serviced with new engine mounts, A/C components, a belt tensioner, wheels, and wheel bearings, this limited-edition XC90 is now being offered for auction out of South Carolina with approximately 172k miles on the odometer.
The unique Ocean Blue Metallic paint is complemented by Electric Silver side body moldings and a rear skid plate, polished aluminum roof rails, color-matched mirror caps and door handles, and Volvo Ocean Race (VOR) emblems on the front doors. It sits on distinctive 18” Atlantis polished wheels fitted with new tires. The exterior was ceramic-coated under previous ownership and the seller notes some imperfections on the wheels, flaking clear coat on the passenger mirror, and small chips on the front end. Matching touch-up paint is included in the sale. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The VOR edition boasts distinctive linear wood inlays and stitched taupe leather upholstery with cloth seat inserts. Additional special features include a leather gearshift knob, floormats with blue piping, VOR interior sill plates, and a premium Dolby Pro Logic II sound system. This XC90 is also equipped with the Climate Package, which adds heated front seats and headlamp washers, as well as the Convenience Package, which includes rear park assist and power-retractable mirrors. Other notable features include dual-zone automatic climate control with seat air vents, a power glass moonroof, and 8-way power front seats with memory settings and lumbar support. A slight water stain is reported near the sunroof and the cup holder and laminated gear shift panel have small cracks.
Developed by Yamaha Motor Corporation for Volvo, the naturally aspirated B8444S V8 engine delivers up to 311 HP and 325 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed Geartronic automatic transmission featuring Adaptive Shift Logic and Winter Mode. The previous owner replaced the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, and filters. Under current ownership, the car was serviced with new engine mounts, a new A/C compressor, an expansion valve, a receiver drier, a belt tensioner, wheel bearings, and an oil change. The seller indicates a check engine light is on due to an exhaust leak, although there is no functional effect on the vehicle.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a spare tire, and a clean title. The seller also purchased a 4-year/100k-mile warranty which may be transferred to the next owner for an additional cost.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car since March 2023 after purchasing it on PCARMARKET. It is time to reduce my collection to a smaller vehicle. This car is a lot of fun to drive, and it handles terrifically. On a recent 1200-mile trip, 26 mpg was achieved. Around town, mileage is about 17 mpg. The Yamaha engine is exciting and responsive. The sound system is terrific and the expanded seating capacity for 7 makes family trips easy.”

The previous Pcarmarket post shows the new front struts, but no indication of brake wear or pad thickness. The underside is very clean and the few miles that I have driven has not changed the condition. Love the car but I just have to reduce the stable.

The brakes are solid. Do not know the thickness of the pads.
@ HarveytheRV97. Can you comment on the status of the brakes? Thanks
MFREON71-- I just reviewed the photos of this car as it was listed in March 2023 when I bought it through Pcarmarket. Feel free to pull up the sale and look at the underside of the car. I paid $6,666 plus buyers fee plus shipping. Then I replaced the engine mounts, AC complete, wheel bearings and tires.
Bid in the amount of $2,001
I was unable to get any underbody pix. The is some very light surface corrosion but no RUST as you would think. I used to live in the northeast and know what you are saying.
Any underbody pics? Lived up north for many seasons...
Bid in the amount of $911
I am the third owner of this special vehicle. Dont let the miles fool you, its a Volvo and cared for as it should be. Happy bidding on this unique Yamaha V8 powered car.
